Two children, brothers, went to school. They were supposed to go through a beautiful shady forest. It was hot and dusty on the way, and the forest was cool and fun.

You know what?
One of the brothers said to the other. - We still have time for school. School is boring now, and the forest must be a lot of fun. Hear the birds screaming there! And many squirrels, see how many jump on the branches! Shouldn't we go there, brother?

The other brother liked the offer. The children threw the rucksacks on the grass, clasped their hands, and hid in the green bushes. In the woods, it was definitely fun and loud. The birds hovered incessantly, sang and shouted; the squirrels jumped on the branches; insects ran across the grass.

First of all, the children saw a golden insect.

  • "Play with us," the children told the insect.

"I would love to," replied the beetle, "but I don't have time: I have to have lunch."

  • "Play with us," the children told the yellow furry bee.

"I don't have time to play with you," replied the bee, "I need to collect honey."

  • Will you play with us? - the children asked the ant.

But the ant did not have time to listen to them: he dragged a straw three times more than he and was in a hurry to build his cunning house.

The children turned to the squirrel, also offering to play with them; but the squirrel waved its fluffy tail and replied that it should stock up on nuts for the winter.

The dove said:

"I am building a nest for my young children."

A gray hare ran to the stream to wash his face. The white flower of strawberries also had no time to deal with children. He liked the beautiful weather and was in a hurry to prepare his juicy and tasty berry.

The children were bored that everyone was busy with their own businesses and nobody wanted to play with them. They ran towards the stream. Gurgling over stones, a stream ran through a forest.

  • "Do you really have nothing to do?" - the children told him. - Play with us!

As! I have nothing to do? An angry current muttered. "Ah, lazy children!" Look at me: I work day and night and I don't have a minute of rest. Don't I sing people and animals? Who besides me washes clothes, spins the wheels of the mill, transports boats and puts out fires? Oh, I have so much work that my head is spinning! - He added the current and began to murmur on the stones.

  • The children became even more bored and thought it would be better for them to go to school first and then go to the forest. But at this very moment, the boy noticed a small and beautiful turpial on a green branch, apparently very calm and with nothing to do, whistled a funny little song.

  • Hello, humming! The boy yelled at the turpial. - You really have absolutely nothing to do; play with us.

"How?" The offended whistle whistled, "I have nothing to do?" But haven't I been trapping mosquitoes all day to feed my babies? I am so tired that I cannot lift my wings; and now singing the song to my dear children.
