Stories for kids 7: Mouse and the thief

in Education2 years ago

It was a beautiful spring morning. Mouse was in the flower garden, enjoying the first blooms of spring, as they scented the air, announcing a new start. Lizzy was there as well soaking up the suns rays.

They talked about the winter and how cold it was. Then they heard the squawking of a new comer to their garden. A crow, he was sitting atop an old pole, peering at every thing and every one. They know to stay clear of him. He'll eat them if he got the chance. To make things worse the crows always bring trouble with them. Keeping a watchful eye on the crow they continued their conversation.

Again they were interrupted and they knew this time to hide away. Mouse hid with Lizzy under a pile of rocks. It was the children from the farm house and they are looking for something. Just as Mouse was wondering what it could be, he heard them talking. Look like dad’s car keys are missing and the kids are helping to look for them, with no luck. They gave up the search looking elsewhere. When the coast was clear Mouse and Lizzy came out of hiding. Just to be greeted by Snowy the neighbours white rabbit.

He was out of his cage and been visiting everybody. They all continued to talk. Snowy had some interesting news to share. Looks like a lot of the people around the area have been missing some stuff. Mouse listened closely when Snowy exclaimed “I think we have a thief in the area ”. Just then they heard the crow squawking up a storm. “Mmmmm……. I wonder" Mouse said to himself watching the crow fly away.
That night at story time by the window of the little girls room, Mouse heard that more stuff has gone missing as mom and girl talked.

The little girl is missing her hair clips. While mom is missing her wedding ring. The little boy's new tiny toy truck has gone missing. And the dad still hasn't found his car's keys. Mouse knew something is up. But who could be responsible? Is it another human? The next day mouse was getting ready to enter the farm house. They have been busy baking and he was hoping to find a extra rusk or two. Getting into the farm house would be easy today. The windows in the dining room are wide open to help the rusks cool down under the nets that keeps the flies out. Inside the living room smelled even better than the aromas from outside. Nothing like freshly baked rusks. Mouse looked around carefully to make sure the cat wasn't near by, then he headed for the table and started climbing up the long table cloth. On the top he was greeted by a whole table top full of rusks and so many to choose from.

Mouse found a few broken pieces. He found a safe spot to take a nibble and enjoy his snack. When something flew into the house catching his attention. It was the crow. He landed on the coffee table and picked up silver coins that was laying on the table. Afterwards he flew out through the window again. Mouse quickly scurried to the window and out side following the crow. The crow landed in an old weeping willow tree not far from the farm house.

Mouse hid from the crow making sure not to get spotted. The crow landed on a branch and into an big old abandoned bird nest. After a few minutes the crow left again. Mouse made sure the coast was clear before he approached the tree. Mouse glanced around once again then when he was sure it's safe, he started to climb making his way to the old nest.

Inside mouse found all the missing items. So the crow is the thief. Moms ring, dad's car keys and a whole lot more. Mouse discovered it's all shiny things the crow has stolen. Now how to love this problem. He can always return the stolen stuff to the owners. But the crow will just keep taking stuff. Maybe even change his hiding spot. No this has to stop. Now Mouse have to think of a plan to get the people to notice.
Then Mouse had an idea. He climbed back down and headed back to the farm house. Inside the house he searched till he found what he was looking for in the living room in a basket near the fire place. Yarn, just what he needed. Mouse chose a bright orange. He then tied one end to the window leading the rest of the yarn towards the willow tree where the crow’s nest was. After he finished he headed back to the farm house to finish his snack. While he waited for the humans to notice.

Much later when dad returned home from work. The family were all heading to the living room to enjoy a cup of coffee and rusks. The father noticed it first. The yarn around the window's handle. He grabbed it then pulled. Noticing it didn't move he grew curious then went outside to investigate the mysterious piece of yarn. Curious to what the dad was up to, the rest of the family followed him. They followed the piece of yarn as it led them to the tree, where the nest was. It was the boy who started to climb the tree following the yarn. He soon discovered the nest just as crow was back. He squawked and complained but it was too late. The boy was handing the nest with everything inside, to his dad who reached out to take it from his son. They shooed the crow as he tried to fly over their heads in protest. It was a lost cause the crow soon noticed, then left. The people discovered all of their and their neighbours missing stuff. All of it was returned to it's rightful owners. Every body was happy. The crow left that day never to be seen again. Mouse was watching the sunset that afternoon. Nibbling on a piece of rusk. Happy to have had another good day where people found what was lost and special to them. Mouse knew even if you aren't able to help a person directly. Like himself he couldn't tell the people what he knew. You can lead them in the right direction. Like he did with the yarn.
