[ENG/ESP] A LONG AND NECESSARY WALK // UNA CAMINATA LARGA Y NECESARIA

A long and necessary walk.

Friends I hope you are well, yesterday was one of the longest days I have had so far this year, as I walked more than I thought I would do for a few simple conversations that will really accomplish many things in the future.

Our day started at six in the morning, since in my country is strict quarantine week for the #COVID-19, the transportation works until noon and we had to go to a place far away from the city, called Bramon, and then go up to another sector known as "El Diamante" which we wanted to visit, have the talks and come back home before noon. The truth... Things were not as easy as we thought and my feet are witnesses of that.

Things started badly from the moment we left the house because despite the forecast of the previous day said it would be a sunny day, it started to rain as if the world was going to end. When we arrived at the bus stop we were more water than people, but as they say, we are already here and believe me that phrase will be the lady of my misfortunes today. Anyway, we got on the bus to get on and the next thing that happens is that the fare doubled its price that day because only that and three other buses were going to work today (supply and demand inflation strikes again) but well, on the way we practiced on the things that would be discussed today and preparing for different scenarios.

Arriving at the Bramon plaza, we got off the bus and sat for a while waiting to be picked up to go to the meeting that was waiting for us. After half an hour of waiting, we were informed that the car that would pick us up was damaged... This is where we decided that walking up there was the only option left and that's what we did, we walked for almost an hour to get to the house where we were supposed to arrive, we passed a road that reminded us of a forgotten town, not a soul passed by for more than half of the way and the first people we saw were men working their plots of land; There was nothing more worrying than a group of men with machetes, picks and shovels stopping to look at you with serious and austere faces.

In the end, after several scares, pauses to recover mentally and physically and a small nervous breakdown, we arrived at our destination. Why did we go through so much trouble to get up here? The truth is something that few would do, since we climbed up to this site, to form a social work team to support us every time we are in these communities, our desire was to listen to several people we had already interviewed, to know more about their ideals, their thoughts and to know if they would really be willing to join us. It took us three hours of long conversations, with deep arguments and twists and turns on our part and that of our new friends, until they finally gave us their answer and yes, they will form the work team for the next social days in this remote but important sector.

The return from this journey was not only to walk back to Bramon, but to have to walk almost all the way home since there was no transportation and no one wanted to stop to take us. I returned home at eight o'clock at night, with my feet full of blisters and mistreatment, with my clothes still a little wet and very hungry, but with a heart full of satisfaction because I knew that this project was not only going well, it was growing more than we thought possible.

That's all for today friends, soon I will be uploading summaries of the next activities with the foundation so stay tuned and give love to this and the following posts. A big hug to all of you.
