Surrounded just by mountains - would you live here?

IMG_20230128_130220.jpg

There is a belief that states that a picture is worth a thousand words. Could be true, I would not try to deny that fact, but I am more than sure that this picture of mine needs an explanation a story to complement it. What do we see? Blue sky with a few white clouds, Mediterranean vegetation (bushes and a pine tree) and mountains. A very nice landscape that could represent wild nature and the feeling that nobody lives around. But...

IMG_20230128_130216.jpg

...what those wires are doing here? 😱

In case you haven't seen them in the previous photo, here they come once again. Beautifully visible wires that wipe out the idea this place have never had any touch with human beings.

After all, it is not a bad thing in itself as there are people who like to live in remote places, have electricity and still respect nature. Waking up every day to scenes like this must be great as if I enjoyed staying here for one day, how cool is it to stay here 365 days of a year? It feels like being in harmony with all the flora and fauna that surrounds you.

IMG_20230128_130834.jpg

A few days ago a thought came to my mind, actually a question I asked myself. Could I live in the countryside? I already live in a small town, and many times it is just too "small" for the activities I would like to experience more often. Would I be able to sacrifice my profession and live a simpler life? It would for sure give me a much more relaxed pace of life, but what would compensate for the lack of teaching and piano playing for an audience?

IMG_20230128_130233.jpg

It is a quite different lifestyle one can have without all the habits, practices and commodities that living in urban areas offers. Still, I would like to have electricity and freshwater supply. Also, being connected with the world would be somehow a must for me. I know that I would miss the presence of people and would like to talk to someone after some time. Maybe I would also need to work online, so having an internet connection would come in handy. It can be solved with an outdoor WiFi antenna.

IMG_20230128_134538.jpg

This is how one can get some connection with the world. The mobile phone signal among these mountains is equal to zero, but at least the internet coverage is reaching this place.

IMG_20230128_134550.jpg

We were invited to spend the day here, in this paradise. A day off, forgetting the everyday routine and tasks we would normally do on a regular Saturday. Unfortunately, it was a bit cold to take an afternoon nap in this hammock, but on warmer days it is just perfect. (tried it one summer afternoon - it was a very enjoyable siesta 😇)

IMG_20230128_133419.jpg

It was better to be in the sun! We gathered there, like lizards, in front of the entrance to the house while the food was in the preparation phase. The house you see is actually not the kind of house you would imagine. This is just the front wall of it, it has a little solar at the top of two front rooms, but the rest of the rooms are under the ground. It is a half-cave house. The benefit of the rooms that are in the cave part is that they don't need too much heating, and they stay protected from the oscillations in atmospheric temperature. The drawback - a few years ago heavy rain filtered through the soil and made damage to one of the rooms. It stayed useless and no good solution is found at the moment to prevent the water from entering again.

IMG_20230128_135858.jpg

But going back to the good and tasty things: food! I have to confess that it was exceptional. The fire was set, while the ingredients were marinated. Lamb and chicken meat, and for vegetarians asparagus, young garlic, corn, tomatoes and lettuce. (the last two ingredients went just for the salad in raw condition)

IMG_20230128_133134.jpg

The fire gave warmth and when it calmed down, the meat and veggies were brought here and grilled.
The result? The result was consumed with a lot of pleasure. That can be considered as another benefit of living in the countryside, preparing food in the traditional way. It is just impossible to put fire in your apartment when you want to grill a bit of meat. Well, you can but I am sure that the neighbours would immediately call the firefighters 😂. Maybe you would also go to jail for that activity...or be sent to a madhouse! 😁

It was exciting to feel the vibe that a different place of living can give you for one day. I have lived for some years in a big city and I loved it, but mostly I have lived in towns of medium size or small ones. Being surrounded by nature is great though I would need at least a year of living in a place like this to be able to give the answer to my question from the beginning - would I be able to live in the countryside?

Would you switch your home and all the facilities you have in order to live surrounded just by nature? Is there something you would not like to sacrifice from the lifestyle you have right now?

Sometimes I don't understand people. They deny technology when they have too much of it and long for technology when they lack it. It's the same with where to live, those who live in big cities want to go to the countryside and those who live in the countryside want to go to a big city. The point is that people are always dissatisfied. And they don't manage their affairs well. Why not have a little bit of everything? Why not enjoy the bounties of our existence responsibly and without harming others, or oneself?
I could very well live in that place between the mountains. I have already told you that I confine myself to a space of a little more than 300 square metres where I have my house surrounded by trees and I am happy.
I wouldn't want to do without technology as I would miss out on doing what I love, which is writing, reading other people's experiences, trading etc.
Where you live doesn't really matter if you provide yourself with what you need to be well, to fulfil your dreams, your work, your hobbies... in short, to breathe the air you like, the way you like it.
I would like to live in these mountains and have friends come to visit me who enjoy good tea and conversation. I would of course have lots of fruits to give them and vegetables without chemicals 😊.

I can't agree more with you, with your every single word!
We see people not finding their happiness as they always long for something that they don't have, and when the desired thing is in their hands, then another thing becomes the object of longing. I don't say we should not have our dreams and wishes, but when we want to achieve something we just have to let ourselves enjoy the process of getting there. Enjoy all the effort and sacrifice! That's it, the process of getting somewhere is already giving the needed satisfaction, if not, we convert ourselves into stressed and frustrated individuals. Is it good for us and the others? Of course, it is not.
Now my own question is would I be able to leave my current comfort (well, not the comfort, it's not the word I was looking for) and the things I do now? If I would not like the current way of living it would be an easy question hahah. Ok, ok, I could live with less work hahaha, much less work. but would definitely like to continue to play the piano for others, and have rehearsals and performances. It would not be the same playing for a few field mice and just for myself 😁
A fusion of things we like, combining and respecting nature and our own needs, as you also say no matter actually where but how... is it the thing we were looking for, does it satisfies our needs and in the end, do we feel on the place and happy with our decision... I do know that I would come for that tea to your kingdom, @nanixxx , where we can freely be fuera de nylon 😁

An explosion of joy, an infinite pleasure... and immediately my mind starts to travel and is light on its feet.
And I've got a song in the background, of course... A classic, a prelude to symphonic rock... There's some Bach in there? A Whiter Shade of Pale, by Annie Lennox.
Come whenever you want ☺️

Let's bring music here then :)))

It is just a part that is similar to Bach's tune, Air on the G string. Just similar, but it totally sounds like Bach ;)

🫠 Melted like a chocolate ice cream milkshake

😍😂

I assume these are Andalusian mountains. Very similar to the South Greek ones. I was impressed during my time there by the similarity.
When my faith in humanity drops even further I'd definitely live there. I just have more way to go till then haha.
Glad you had a pleasant break there.

I also find so many similarities with the Greek landscape when you, @fotostef or @traisto are showing us your country. Especially the inland. The hills and mountains and the vegetation that grows.

So, not exactly Andalusia but the inland part of the Alicante region. It was about an hour of driving on the highway to a nearby town, and then a bit more driving on a small road. Hahaha, I hope that your faith in humanity will not drop further but this place could be anyway considered a place of living for some time.

Thanks, we did have a great time, with great company and very tasty food ;)

It looks indeed very much like a Greek landscape so I'll say that it is beautiful :)
As for your question, if you could live in a place like that, only you can answer that! Myself after 9 years living in villages with 100 or less people, I still can't decide if I prefer the total isolation of a homestead, the cosiness of a small village or the comfort of a small town (big city is out of the question) and I quess that I won't be sure until I try them all :)

I do want to live in a place surrounded by mountains... that'd actually be where I want to live when I retire..haha.. As long as there's a fireplace that would make me warm.. It's fine... By that time, an internet connection wouldn't be in use since a granny doesn't like playing phone anymore lol.

I am not sure if a granny would not use the phone or the internet hahaha. Actually, I am also surprised to see how many elderly people use the internet nowadays, at least that is what I notice here. But you're young, who knows what we will use after some 50 years :D The future will show us ;)
But you are right, for retirement, it would be indeed a nice place to live, with or without all the gadgets we use right now. 😇

I spent like 2 Years in a place surrounded by Mountains and everyday was well spent there... Vibes of such place never makes you bore....found peace of mind in every activity and Good thing internet was also Working!

moved back to city for some reasons and it's been snowing there as of now but I can't pay a visit sadly.

Sounds like you had a very nice experience, living surrounded by the mountains for two years. I imagine it as a kind of soul detoxication we all would experience at some time in our life journey.

We are back today at my home and the temperatures dropped. Also, it was raining but on the peaks of the nearby mountains, I can see snow. But when it happens (not every year though) the snow melts in a few days. Sometimes in hours. When the Spanish sun comes out, there is no future for snow lol

What a beautiful place and it's great that you had a lovely day off from the rest of the world and be with nature in such a paradise❤

Your question brought me back to years ago when I was choosing between keeping my thriving career in the bustling city overseas versus retiring in the countryside. I went with the latter and I'm still loving my laidback lifestyle here in the mountains. Will certainly say YES this time over hehe😊

It sounds like you have made a good decision. Feels good when one realizes that the made decisions were correct and that happiness is found. Whatever option works for each of us, it is important we find ourselves satisfied with our decisions.

Many years ago, like 15 years ago we fell in love with a mountainous place and dreamed about moving there. One of my students was so surprised, and couldn't understand, how I would not miss teaching and the students ;D

Well, right now when we look at some places and properties, I am having some doubts, maybe better said just questions, would I like to leave behind my piano playing and the lessons? The lessons, probably yes, it would be like having some long, long summer break hahah, which I really like, but performances...? I would definitely miss that part, but it could be combined as it is not every day. So, who knows, maybe I would sacrifice some of my stuff to take a slower pace :))

I am happy for you, that you found your way and also, thank you for sharing my post on Twitter 💚

Whatever option works for each of us, it is important we find ourselves satisfied with our decisions.

This is very true. And we don't just decide blindly.

One of my students was so surprised, and couldn't understand, how I would not miss teaching and the students

I think your student must know how much you are very passionate about teaching and piano and that you having some doubts about moving means you truly are happy with where you are right now, doing what you love and thriving too.❤️

Cheers to you and thank you lots too :)

Yes, I think he already saw it, but he also didn't want to lose his teacher hahaha

Have a great week @ifarmgirl 💚

That is cool. I also want to be there to spend time enjoying the wilderness. But, how does the internet transmitter work?

It somehow works hahaha. It gets the signal from some point, but the phone coverage is just zero. I was cut off for the whole day hahaha. But is actually good, the phone was used just to take some photos. No calls or messages, so all perfect :D

In the past, I often explored nature without my cell phone. There is only nature and I am united in peace. But now I don't do it very often because I have to look after my niece.

I’ve spent some time in a very small community with no internet connection.
The people there didn’t seem to be bothered as that was their way of life.

I actually enjoyed my stay there because I got to stay away from social media and appreciate what was right in front of me all these years that I failed to see.

I wouldn’t think twice about doing that again.😅

Cool experience. I am sure they find much pleasure in some normal things we sometimes don't see or don't have time to enjoy.
I could live without all the social media stuff, well I already do that way hahahaha, except Hive, as this platform is where I spend most of my screen time for the last two and a half years. For it, I would like to have an internet connection. For the rest, no need at all ;)

It’s good to know that at least we can stay away from social media just to focus on ourselves. Most people can’t do that due to their addiction to social media.

I am living in the countryside. Life here I must say I could never trade with the hustle and bustle of the city life. As long as electricity and internet is good. Life is just fine.

Happy to hear that!! I know that living in the countryside also gives you some more healthy food, especially if you have your own garden or you can purchase it from the locals. But yes, electricity should be a must and the internet, well, nowadays it is also good to have it :D
I can't agree more, life is just fine, wherever each of us finds joy and satisfaction ;)

I would love to live anywhere near the mountains but I also would want to stay connected to the world and have modern conveniences like electricity and running water lol. I would also want to be somewhat close to a grocery store. I wouldn't want to drive long distances for food. The house sounds very interesting. Too bad about the water damage.

Yeah, that mixture would be perfect, pure nature but electricity and water supply would be a must. As is the case with this house ;)
Well, there are a few nasty curves on the road to reach the civilisation and any grocery :D
I know, a helicopter that would deliver the food would be cool, right? Problem solved ;D

Yeah helicopter delivery would be ideal. I imagine it would be expensive though. That's something else that I'm averse to 😆

Yeah, probably would be expensive... {why do I have to dream big always?} 😂

Life in the countryside makes you rethink many things. That the air is purer, that the hustle and bustle of the city leaves you in peace for a long time, that you can get all the spiritual harmony you need. At the same time I think that as mortal people, we always prefer not to give up our habits. It would be ideal @mipiano to play that instrument in the mountains...

All this is true, indeed. Especially that we prefer not to give up on our habits. Though those habits can be also good things and something that we enjoy. That already gives us some peace of mind. On the other side, there are those habits that we just think do good to our lives. We should master the skill of recognizing those things and later, make the needed changes.
Piano in the mountain... maybe the echo would make it sound cool :)

👀 my sister has visited you, I always tell her about you when I tell her about what to write and how to have a great Hive experience 😋
(hahaha) Something like: mipiano doesn't just give piano lessons, if you read her you learn how to be a star blogger.

We have a real family party :D 🥂🥂🥂🥂

La apunto, para que sepa que es la hermana de Nanixxx 😀

Such a cool and calm environment. Living in such an area will be so cool... but, obviously, it is apt for people who have already made excess wealth 🤧 such that they are already comfortable with what they have... no need for the hustle to make money, to find jobs, or look for customers for a business. You just wake up in the morning, cook, eat.... do whatever you want within the confines of your home.

Chai!!!
But visiting places like this, once in a while, help us to keep in touch with nature.

Yep, I agree, going to places like this helps us stay in touch with mother nature. Enjoy it and breathe some fresh air and clear out our thoughts. Work - if online work would be an option for you, and with a good internet connection... why not? :) It is not reserved just for wealthy people ;)
But it really depends on the profession each of us has. ;)

Hope you are having a great weekend, well, it is almost over. But then, have a successful upcoming week 😎

That is so so true
I wonder why I didn't consider it. Why is my head sooooo analogue 😅😅

Yes, it depends on your profession, not on how wealthy you are.

My weekend was stressful and my week is following same line as well. I hope yours was better. I wish you a lovely week ahead.

Oh no, sorry to hear that it was stressful. My weekend was great but a migraine episode started last night, so it's not perfect this side either 😑

So sorry to hear about that. Do you still feel the same or are you much better now?

Not really better, unfortunately

Hi @mipiano . Interesting proposal. Life in contact with nature is very rewarding as you could feel it. Living surrounded by nature requires discipline and it must not be easy to leave aside some city comforts. But the peace and tranquility of these places are unique and for that it is worth the effort. Nice article and beautiful photos. Happy weekend to you.💐🤗🌸🌻

How great you mention that living surrounded by nature requires discipline! There is so much truth in that. Discipline to respect the natural resources and all the living creatures around us and also discipline to work and be organized. Many facilities that we take for granted are not present there and would need to be replaced by hard work. Thank you for pointing it out @arialvi75

Living in different places can definitely bring different experiences and perspectives. It's understandable to want to try living in a more rural area surrounded by nature, but it's also important to consider what aspects of your current lifestyle you might not want to give up. Everyone's priorities are different and only you can decide what's best for you.

I already changed places of living and it all can enrich our experience, but also point out what we liked / and what not) in the previous places. Each of us has to recognize what are those things we would not like to sacrifice. For someone, it is comfort, for others profession, career, family, friends etc. The priorities should determine the choice!

Every life decision is difficult and involves compromises. But I think I made the most compromises when I lived in the capital. I can't say I've ever had any comforts there, as I've always lived in a rental (for me, the biggest comfort is living in your own home you don't have to move out of all the time). Then the chaos and that constant waste of time that is typical of the big city, the polluted air, the noise, etc. I was quite young when I decided I didn't want to live like this anymore. So I think the quiet life is devoid of compromises more than the hectic life in the big city.
Well, what you're showing is a bit extreme. Living in a small village is one thing, but living completely in nature is quite another. I've done that too, btw. 😃 But it's a little scary.

You pointed it out very well, living completely in nature is not the same as just in a small village. There are no neighbors, grocery or anything close so yes, a bit scary to live in complete wilderness. But also, it brings some other freedoms :D
City and pollution. I know, also traffic jams are a negative thing, but the cultural and social offer was a feature I really liked while I lived in a bigger city. Everything has pros and cons, the trick is to find what works the best for us 😇

I would definitely say yes to living in a place like this. It reminds me too of certain places in Andalusia, after all, we are not that far away. We are so used to things that we already consider indispensable and for me at this point in my life I reflect that it is really the sacrifice (stress, traffic, cell phones, pollution....). Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your publication!

Yes, we are not that far away, and these mountains from the inland of Alicante can look like those from Andalusia. Though while we were travelling at the begging of January, I saw very different landscapes in Andalusia. The desert around Almería and then the green hills right in the south of Spain (Parque Natural Los Alcornocales). So different scenery to see, loved it all. :)

Exactly! In Andalusia there is a great diversity of landscapes and ecosystems..... beaches of dunes, cliffs, the highest peak, the desert of Almeria, one of the areas where it rains the most in Spain in Grazalema.... Personally I am in love with the Alcornocales Natural Park. I love to travel and discover new things, but I have to admit that in my community I still have a lot to discover!!!! Greetings!

I lived a couple of years in a place near the beach in a house that had a large yard and access to enough nature, something between countryside and beach, of course here in Cuba the houses do not have the comfort or many benefits that you can have in other places, I enjoyed the tranquility, reading in the courtyard under the trees, the amaca, painting and especially the beach , but nevertheless I am a city boy I like to walk on the asphalt , the kind of activities that are done in the cities , I love to spend time in nature but just enough time to relax and get out of the overwhelming pace of the cities , that said , that place looks spectacular and especially the food part sounded great! 😋 Cheers!!!

The place you described sounds perfect, near to beach and nature, big yard 🍀
I could try that haha, but then I wouldn't like to work, just to enjoy the place and create creative moments. But then, after some time the city would call back 😉

I've been to a farm in the rural areas of the Philippines where it was not connected to electricity and fresh water. What they did was install solar panels with batteries for electricity, and dig deep into the soil to find water [deep well]. It was very peaceful and you can be one with nature, but I have to say it's not for everyone. I am usually in front of the PC most of the time and I was so bored during that time. I can take a walk around the farm, but eventually there will be little else to do. It might be nice to get away for a day at most, but I can't live without technology for long.

That sounds much more wild and pure nature, if no electricity and fresh water. Yeah, solar panels could solve the electricity issues, and water can be found. It all requires a lot of work and as you say, it's not for everyone.

He pensado grabarla para 3speak 😄

A sí? Ella canta? Looking forward to listening to Chanel one day 😀🐶

Please yes! Beam me up, Scottie! 😅

:))

Oh... I want one, please!

And I mean a human who still hugs trees! :D

Love to you.

Nature fixes pretty much everything. Thanks for your share <3

It is indeed a paradise of the world as you mentioned, waah I really want to be able to enjoy this kind of natural atmosphere one day, it will definitely be very pleasant

A paradise in this world :))
I assure you that you would enjoy spending some time there. We went for one day and it was so good. We went during the summer as well, and it is very fresh and much better than in a city.

It's so nice, even if it's one day, to be able to go to such a place is a blessing

Thank you! 🌱

Living just by the mountain side will be so wild . I'm not sure if I can live there forever but I'm sure I can go camping with friends there . It will be more fun that way I guess 😜

Living for some time or just go camping with friends is also cool, indeed :)
As I did, went for one day and it was very nice!

I can probably survive there since I live here in the province and just like there we are surrounded by mountains but the difference is that we're on the plain and not on mountains. But since I'm used to live in a lowkey life, I can live and enjoy there for sure.
There's nothing more satisfying than to enjoy your life in a peaceful area.
Sadly that the signal is poor there and also here.

That looks like a nice home :) ... I wonder if the flooding could be controlled by making the floor so the water would flow into a trench?

A picture worth a thousand words
I totally agree with this opinion, even I don't know what to say what to see the beauty of nature that you share, it seems very nice to be able to see nature like that

Wuhuuuu, this is hardcore solitude. 😮

Indeed litlle paradise.

Deep inside I would like to experience this way of living, but not sure would I stay forever as there are still moments when you need some people, and you likes them to be close.

Despite the technology, personally I think tracking the world around you requires bigger effort, more research than when you are in the middle of happening.

And yes, some professions are impossible to survive without personal presence. Not everyone should live on countryside, nor in cities, you just have to love that place and enjoy it no matter where is it.

Wuhuuuu, this is hardcore solitude. 😮

Hahah, it is.

Maybe I wouldn't stay forever either. It is also a bit scary haha

There is the key, love the place where you are. Well, we can choose, obviously, but then choose what we really like :)
