THE WOOD STOVE

in ecoTrain2 years ago

Hello everyone, how do you do today?
There are many things that are extremely important and indispensable in our lives, right? And fire is definitely one of them. No wonder that the invention of fire is considered as one of the 12 biggest events that changed human life to this day. It's hard to imagine what our life would be like without fire, isn't it?

In the Vietnamese concept, there are 5 basic elements that make up everything that is "Kim, Mộc, Thủy, Hỏa, Thổ", known as "Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth". It can be seen that fire is an extremely important element in our human life. What kind of stove are you using to cook your daily meals? With the development of technology, there are more and more modern kitchen options. But my favorite is the old wood stove.

The life of a wood stove in Vietnam

Like fire, wood stoves also play an extremely important role in Vietnamese life. With the development of technology, many types of modern stoves have appeared in Vietnam for a long time, but wood stoves are still very popular in Vietnam, especially in rural areas and even in urban areas.

For Vietnamese people of the 8x generation like me, the wood stove is still a part of our childhood. From the age of 6, I was taught by my grandmother how to cook with a wood stove. And collecting firewood used to be my daily routine. The image of the whole family sitting around the fire and eating baked sweet potatoes on cold days is still vivid in my memory.

In terms of spirituality, the fire is also considered an extremely important part of Vietnamese feng shui. When building a house, the location of the kitchen and the direction of the stove is always a top priority. The Vietnamese believe that the kitchen is the heart of a house, it is the place to create warmth and bring prosperity to the owner. Saying that to see the importance of the fire in the life of Vietnamese people.

Currently I live in a big city, every day I still use an electric stove to cook. But actually, I still prefer to cook with a wood stove. That's why, on all my camping trips or picnics, I still make a wood stove to cook things. It helps me feel connected to nature and also relive the beautiful memories of my childhood about the wood stove.

In my opinion, no cooker can cook rice better than bamboo tubes.

Thank you very much @thereadingman

In my opinion, this is a universal concept - "fire-heart of the house". We have exactly the same attitude towards basic things. And food really tastes better when cooked on fire.

Thank you very much @ruta-rudens
I totally agree.
Do you still cook on fire in your country?

Very rarely. Usually in the summer, when we leave the city. Now it's just a tribute to tradition.

I understand that. Modern life has changed our habits a lot. It's the same here in our country.

But we have many places where wood-burning stoves are still used today. The country is large, the climate is very cold and for many (especially in the hinterland) it is today the only source of heat.

Cool. I'm glad to hear that people can still enjoy the wood-burning stoves in some parts of your country.

This is amazing anh Do oi. Your friends are so lucky to join you in your trips.
When I was small, my great-grandparents taught me to cook with dry wood as well. But I was so bad at keeping it at a good level to cook food. LOL I still think I am not able to do it well now

@dora381 ơi, that's our tradition. Relearn and repractice it! No better than rice cooked by fire.

I know. It is just so hard to do things like that here. It is not allowed to lit a fire in the wood, might cause fire in the forests. So it would be awesome if you can teach me your secrets to cook rice inside the bamboo in a wood fire when I visit you guys in Da Nang.

I'm more than happy to guide you around and teach you how to cook rice inside the bamboo. We are all waiting for you here.

That's awesome. I can't wait to go back and make a date with our team :)

We can't wait to see you here too 😀

I guess we have the same philosophy in Brazil when it comes to the kitchen; it's defo the place where everyone gather and talk and cook and... In our ranch we use a wood burner. It works wonders and requires patience, since it takes longer to cook--the food flavour is always better!

I loved to know more about your culture, really interesting.

Thank you very much @mrprofessor
It's good to know we share something in common. Yeah sometimes we need to be patient to cook things on fire, but the reward is worthy.

Not yet but it looks so interesting.
Thank you for your recommendation @chrisaiki

Can't agree more fire has been playing an essential role in life since human's early days. And Cơm lam cooked in bamboo tubes is one of the best cooked rice ever.

Can't agree more with you that Cơm Lam in the best rice 😁 @snownz008

Thank you for sharing this with us! I love making a fire outside, it is such a beautiful experience and then cooking on an open fire is even more amazing, I think the food tastes much better like that too! 😉

Thank you very much @ecotrain
Even though I cook things by electric stove at home, I prefer to cook by wood-burning stove like that.
