If the body is a temple, how do you worship?

in ecoTrain2 years ago (edited)

Once again, I am writing for EcoTrain this week, and it seems like the perfect question for the perfect time. The reason why I love the topic this week- is that it puts the focus in the right place: on the INSIDE.

We live in a very visually-stimulated, appearance-fixated society that focuses on the outside. Imagine the ludicrous notion of walking into a picture perfect mansion, only to find tattered curtains, stained rugs, broken furniture and ancient appliances. Homeowners spending all their money on the shell of the home, while letting the insides rot is an obvious travesty. Yet, how many of us are doing the exact same thing with our physical "shells".

Though the topic of @ecotrain's QOTW 10.6 is focused on the healthy things we should be eating, I'm going to start there, and then extend this to all the senses!

THE BEST FOOD

I remember this book that came out about how the wealthy people in this world get thin and stay thin. I thought for sure it was going to be some latest fad, or some diet trick, or possibly even that they had the money to do cosmetic surgeries or personal trainers and gyms! Do you know what the magical answer was? They only ever ate the best food!

The bottom line is - cheap food is poison. It is laden with chemicals, toxins, excess sugar, the effects of pesticides, chemical fertilizers, genetic modification and their unknown future effect... etc. Cheap food is cheap simply because it is made with the least expensive ingredients, process, and can last longer on shelves (aka laden with presevatives). It is made to temporarily delight you with harmful sugars, salts and fats - in high concentrations to light up the pleasure centers in your brain to come back for more. You end up feeling a short-term high, followed by a sinking low that only drives you back for more of the "fix". In short, you are being addicted to poison.

Wealthy people eat the highest quality foods that ultimately allow their bodies to be more efficient, run cleaner, and have fewer, damaging side effects. It's very easy to take a look at a brand new luxury car and see how long it lasts filling it with the lowest quality fuels, filters and fluids. The one that has regular maintenance and premium care will most likely have that engine purring like a kitten for years to come.

FOOD, AS SCENT

Fresh air. Cool and crisp, filled with ozone, free of pollution, and delicious to inhale - there is nothing quite like inhaling deep lung-fulls of precious oxygen. Obviously, just like food - the purer, the better. They say that breathing in air that is by a moving, fresh water source is exhilarating and powerful! Haven't you ever felt renewed and recharged when going to a crisp river, or near the ocean's waves? There is something about the energy around water that soothes the spirit and awakens the soul!

On the opposite side of the scent spectrum - be careful with what is touted as calming, but is actually just MORE toxins dressed up as benefits. Many of the home air sprays, candles, fresheners and perfumes have been shown to have irritants that can damage your body. For me, I try to by natural perfumes and organic candles that add lovely scents to your home - without the harmful effects. Essential oils are also wonderful options - and if you don't have access to them - crushing the leaves of an actual aromatic plant can also be a nice alternative!

Either way, breathe deeply! Next time you feel stress coming on, watch how magical it is when you take 5 slow deep breaths! You won't believe how easy it is to calm those nerves with gulps of free, clean air!

FOOD, AS TOUCH

One of my favorite ways to honor my body is through loving touch! Massage, snuggles, hugs and more - the body was made to enjoy contact! There are times when words simply won't suffice - and a comforting cuddle will make all those unspoken anxieties melt away. From the time we're babies, skin to skin contact is reinforced from the start. If you like hugs, I have a little challenge for you! The next time you're in the mood for a hug from a hug partner - hold that hug for 10 seconds and measure any change in your emotions! Feel free to come back and let me know in the comments your findings!

FOOD, AS SIGHT

I think it's probably obvious some of the things that I might say here - so let me take the opposite approach and tell you what you should NOT feed your eyes!

Though we are all very much addicted to our devices, I'll encourage you to set some limits on your screen time - and that means ALL screens. Go out and enjoy nature! Turn off the phone, computer, game consoles, and tvs! When you sleep, turn off all lights and simply enjoy the darkness! Give those beautiful eyes a REST, and let them rebalance!

Not only that, but when you've turned the devices back on - be careful what you feed your mind, through your eyes! We have become desensitized to a lot of things that are pumped into our minds through the media. Take back control, and choose the beautiful things to set your mind. Look for content that showcases love, joy and peace - and be amazed at how your heart becomes fine-tuned to recognize these traits and be attracted to find more!

FOOD, AS SOUND

Giggles, harmony, rivers, birds, windchimes, instruments, whispers, thunderstorms - those are just a few of my favorites and I'm sure you can think of many more. Our ears are specialized tools that take the magic of sound waves and translate them into a variety of sounds. Have you ever thought about that? That our bodies take invisible waves and convert them into something we can recognize and discern from millions of other sounds! Amazing!!!

Feed your ears well. Find a variety of symphonies that bring waves of pleasure, and marinate your mind with them! Saturate your surroundings with soft sounds that soothe!

ALL THE SENSES, FED

As you have read, I focused on all of the senses and how they can be used to bring health and healing to your body. Remember that taking care of the inside is what transforms the outside. Also, never forget that it's not just food that brings nourishment to these shells - but all of the senses have a purpose in keeping everything in the proper alignment. Take good care to take good care!

I hope this post brings you a new appreciation for the miracle of our bodies, and that you are cautious to not take these gifts for granted. Remind yourself daily to use these blessings to honor the temple that you've been graced to inhabit!

❤️Lots of love❤️

Society as a whole still eats much too much, with 60% of people being either overweight or obese. Sure, the food quality is a problem but if you go to Wholefoods for example, we still find 70% of the items they not healthy. The whole food chain is a problem. We need to start eating less.

Very much agree with this. And whole foods has a lot of NOT whole foods! LOL

lots of processed stuff there that is just empty calories!

Eating truly whole doesnt' require a special store, so much - right? hehehe Just choose the foods that are closest to their natural state and start there! i totally agree with you! Nice to meet you by the way! This is the first time we are crossing paths! That's why i love these challenges! :)

I love that you adopted a sensory approach to ecoTrain's QotW.

Taste - When we think of the food going into our bodies we should definitely be focussing on quality input for quality output (read longevity and healthy life). I have an organic veg box delivered weekly which was an absolute Godsend during the lockdowns. In fact it is part of the content of my own EcoTrain post that I am writing up this evening so I won't go into it any further, suffice to say that good tasty healthy food doesn't have to work out that much more expensive in the long run if we use it wisely 😘

Scent - Fresh mountain air - lots of it❣️ The smell of the rain - well the smell of the raindrops falling on the dry earth releasing petrichor hehe source; The smell of ozone from our neighbouring Greenbelt area - I always know when my cats have been playing amongst the trees hehe, and the smell of wild garlic in the woods on a sunny Spring day.

Touch - oh yes!!! Hugs❣️ 💯% It has been proven that hugs that last for 10 seconds or better still 20 seconds make a huge difference to our sense of well-being and connection and genuinely feed our hearts and souls. When I see my Dad and my siblings and we hug, we always hold it for as long as possible - and you know those long squeezy hugs... my Jack gives me those and they are amaaaaaaazing!!!!!!!!! He runs to me after school every day and gives me the biggest smile and says HUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it! And I make my other boys (read Oliver and hubby) give me hugs too lol ♥️♥️♥️ ... oh and head and foot massages... yes!!! those!!!

Sight - eye contact with the people we care about; the people we love. We communicate best with our eyes, they are truly windows to our souls. And mountain vistas - I could sit on mountains and stare at mountains for eternity. This brings me a profound sense of peace and feeds me spiritually.

Sound - my children's laughter, my family and friends' voices, waves crashing on the shore, African thunderstorms (there is nothing quite like them!), tongue drums and acoustic guitars, the rain on my conservatory roof, the morning call of the birds in the garden and woodlands, Koshi Wind Chimes after a Yoga session.

I loved this post that certainly stimulated my senses and made me think of the ways in which they feed my soul 💗💗💗

SO jealous - i miss thunderstorms hahahaha

i'm about to listen to this youtube video that you sent.. it looks interesting hehehe

oh my gosh - i feel like i can hear it just running through me ! hahahahaha

so beautiful! thank you for sharing this!!!! i've never seen a wind chime with only one cylinder and so many sounds hehehehe

beautiful wow this is so relaxing hehehe

Isn't it gorgeous? My yoga teacher used to walk around with them during relaxation and they would tinkle because the sound would flow from the natural movement of her gait rather than someone twirling them around like that in the video

Interesting perspective and unusual approach. Yes, we do have to nourish ourselves by paying attention to all our senses. Beautifully written as well, love your “alternativeness”, it shines in everything you do. Yes, our bodies are God’s miracles. ❤️💕🤗💕❤️🔥
Thank you for posting in the EcoTrain

hehe you know I always try to take a new and different approach! I figure everyone is going to be writing on the same topic - might as well try to give people something altered to change things up a bit! hehehe

This was a really great post topic this week! I am already wondering where @eco-alex will go for next week! hehehe thanks for visiting Miss stylish!

Wow.. what an amazing connection indeed.
I think those are the best worship the body can ever get, taking care of it as much as we can.
Nice post

We only get one, right? and if we abuse this one - we will really reap the consequences of sad actions!!!

Wow! Momma will always come with great perspectives and I love where you have taken these to,,,onto another level and I learnt some stuff here too.

We need to take good care of our body by following the five sense organs because when we can take care of the inner body, it will be revealed outwardly and that alone gives us sound health always. Thank you ma

Hi sweetheart!! hehehe you know I always have to find a new spin - right? hahahaha

but yes - so many people focus on the outside first... but I think inside first and then let that glow out! :)

thanks for your visit! hehehe

You are right. The inside will bring out the beauty outwardly and it is important to care for the inside first. You are always welcome ma

😲 WOW!! That was really needed for us all if not just a good reminder. Your right in all aspects of what you wrote. The hugging experience you mentioned is real. That is something I truly feel is or has worth in life and should be utilized by us all. Yes I mean there's definitely different kind of 🤗 hug's. Thanks 🙏 for the GREat read @nanco22

I had a really special experience once when I went through something extremely traumatic and I started to hyperventilate... and i couldn't stop!
and someone hugged me really tight and long.. and all of the sudden - everything just stopped. i was calm and i could think clearly and it was amazing!

the hugging is REAL! HAHAHAHA
THANK YOU SO MUCH for coming to enjoy my post and meeting me!!!

I absolutely !LUV your post @dreemsteem 😍😍😍 The way you go through all the senses is really different and I've never thought about it from this perspective! Thanks so much for sharing 🙏❤️

Homeowners spending all their money on the shell of the home, while letting the insides rot is an obvious travesty. Yet, how many of us are doing the exact same thing with our physical "shells".

Such a great analogy and so true...

Massage, snuggles, hugs and more - the body was made to enjoy contact!

I'm a hugger! 😁😁😁 did you know humans perish if left without physical contact for a long period of time? It's amazing how important connection is!

Look for content that showcases love, joy and peace - and be amazed at how your heart becomes fine-tuned to recognize these traits and be attracted to find more!

About this I've been doing an experiment... I left Facebook a long time ago, I only go there very rarely and when I'm on the computer. I uninstalled it from my phone. I mainly used Instagram for checking up with my friends and other health professional. I started noticing how I felt after being 30 min randomly scrolling and I started to realise whenever I closed the app I felt unhappy, unmotivated and hopeless... I didn't uninstaled IG from my phone yet but I moved it from the main screen and I haven't opened it for about a week. It's damn freeing, let me tell ya!

Great post from you my dear! I hope to catch up with you soon 😍💜

yesssssssssssssss!!!

I disconnected my facebook in 2017 - and you wouldn't believe the freedom!! well, actually yes YOU would believe it - cuz you have experienced it! hahahaha

it is unbelievable how much it takes a toll on the mind! I still have IG on my phone too (i hardly use it) and now I have a facebook community (but I am there anonymously - so i don't get pulled in to read things... i just share my activity on my workouts and interact just a bit with others who need encouragement on their workouts) and then i log off! hahaha

but you're SO CORRECT. if people were to just take a week away from those things? they would see such a difference in their heart and mind... and NOT want to return!!!

and as far as being a hugger - YESSS!!! I remember a case study in University where they actually saw that babies who were just left in their beds - and only fed and not touched or cuddled - died! (it's so sad that this was an actual experiment that ended so poorly!!!) but we as humans DESPERATELY need physical touch!!! we are made to be creatures that have some kind of physical contact. if not through humans - then through pets! or something! but it is so desperately needed. if we don't get this, we are severely lacking in our deepest needs!

it is unbelievable how much it takes a toll on the mind!

It is!! I actually already knew that getting off social media could have a great effect on the mind and health but I guess I didn't truly believed it until I tried it for myself!

That's the thing, our minds get so used to being constantly fed with so much useless information that we don't know how normal and quiet feels anymore!

I remember a case study in University where they actually saw that babies who were just left in their beds - and only fed and not touched or cuddled - died!

I've heard of that too, sadly 😫 Thank goodness we already have ethics in experiments and medical research... But those ancient days, medicine could be a dark&inhuman thing 😞

Thank you so much for your insight! As always it's a pleasure interacting with you ❤️

i know... so sad to think that children actually died in that "experiment"!!! ughhh.

and once again - i agree.. it's amazing the things that we get "used" to! and we just dont' know the difference until we're FREE from it, and then realize that we don't want to go BACK! hahaha

Cheers for us - for ridding ourselves of one more chain ❤️ Hopefully we can be a light and a help to others who want the same!

Cheers for us - for ridding ourselves of one more chain ❤️

Cheers 😍!

awesome post! i love how you have used the senses to describe food.. that is so original and very interesting! In india we eat with our hands in many places, and people like to feel their food.. somehow it helps make the eating process more enjoyable and connected!

great job im happy you also joined in :) <3

hehehe yes!!! ok so now i have to ask a question about eating food with hands! hahaha because when we eat dinner here, we always pray first. and I can always tell if i'm holding the hand of someone who has washed their hands recently or not! hahahahaha

and if I'm holding someone's hand that has not washed their hands recently - I wont say anything or do anything offensive, but i'm careful to not use that hand to touch my mouth or my food now.

but - now - i'm wondering... if we were all using our hands to dip into communal food - would this be an issue?? is this ever an issue? or does everyone just need to understand that this is how it is done, so they just adjust their minds to it?

I've always wondered this so now i'm very curious to see your response! hahahahaha

but i DO love when i eat foods with my hands!! hahaha

also - when i use the proper tools for the proper meals. specifically - when I'm eating Asian foods - i ALWAYS prefer to eat that with chopsticks. Some people think that this is unnecessary and they just use a fork - but no no no!!! the food actually TASTES MUCH different when eating with bamboo chopsticks!!!

hehehe also - I'm going to head to your post now to see if you saw my latest comment! hahaha I wasn't sure if you stated that you had done the image on your own! But we need to have some source there for that image that says it's created by you! hehehe if so - i'll push it forward into the curation pool now! the last time i checked it wasn't updated yet! LOLOL so sorry for all this! hahahaha but you see how much we have to check these things??? jahahaha now you can see why its a time consuming process with all the posts on DreemPort! we always want to do the work for all the readers - so they can come and just simply know that everything is up to par with all that stuff! LOLOL time consuming for sure - but... as always - it is a labor of love for the community that we love - right???? :)

and also - i saw your post today for the next question - so i'll be sure to write up the next DreemPort post sharing it with everyone to come come com join in for this final week with you all!!!! its been GREAT!!!!!!

This post is itself a dose of nutrients. I can say that I have consumed something nice right now. You are very correct about this world and how we treat our bodies- very visual.

We are natural beings and everything inside our bodies can be found outside. We just have to consume the right ones. Nature gave us all that is. However, we are so hooked on the artificial.

I love how you broke down consumption for all our senses. Well done. This post should be saved somewhere beautiful.

thank you!!! i really appreciate that compliment! hehehe

i always love seeing you here :)

Love this 🥰. something we all should be taken into account...o guess I need more healthy food for my sight 😅

I would agree that i do too!!!

I am telling other people to be cautious of this in this post.... but I am really just telling myself to do the same! hahahahaha

Very nice written what our Vedic philosophy said we eat everything, food, water, air, emotions, and information through the sensory organs and motor organs you are correct focusing all the senses together makes a healthy and vibrant as well as positive body mind and spirit. thank you 🙏for your nice thoughts.

That's it, we have to feed well and with quality food our senses. The fresh air, the touch, hugs, what we see, and the sounds that come to our mind, all can make us feel healthy - happy :))

my friend!!!!!! it's been so long! (don't ask me about my progress on my piano skills for now hehehe shhhhhhh... i will do it - for sure... maybe this summer it will be my joy to try it again.. but life took a funny turn and had me stop for a bit .. even writing, i've not been as focused on that as I enjoy!)

but yes... feeding our bodies well in all ways - so important, yeah???

Agree - happy and joyful and blessed!

Beautiful explanation 👌 Food is either enemy or energy!!!! 😁

hi my sweet friend!!!

ohhhhhh that's a good line "enemy or energy!!!" i will remember that one hehehehe

This is really overwhelming @dreemsteem. I love your concept, If the body is a temple, how do you worship? It is really thought provoking and you explained it so well.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

thanks for coming to visit and I'm glad that it touched you! :)

Yeah, you're always welcome Ma'am 🤗.
