Yesterday was a bit of a whirlwind trying to get everything done before leaving on our trip. I got a text that grain would be ready about 10:30 then I went out and got the last soak in while letting the boys sleep. J had school and @stryeyz took him as she took the day off of work.
After letting the birds out for the day I got the barrels strapped down and the trailer hooked up to the truck.
I climbed up into the attic to get out the suitcases and when I opened the door this bumblebee was lethargically walking along the floor. I picked it up on my finger and it very slowly hung on.
I climbed down from the attic and walked the bee over to the nearest Oregon grape plant with flowers. I set the bee on the top of the flowers and it instantly started lapping at the nectar within. It looked happy and was moving a little more as it slowly climbed around the flowers.
The grain was ready at 10 am and I headed down to pick it up. I stopped to drop empties at the Steam Plant and was blocked out of the alleyway by an Avista truck. It enforced my routine of 5 am runs for grain since there is never anyone around to get in my way.
Picking up the grain I again had to deal with vehicles and the new business's sign blocking my normal turn around spot. I really don't like the city in the day time, I like it when everyone is still asleep.
After getting gas on the way home I backed the trailer into the sheep pen and emptied out the 2 barrels which the birds piled onto instantly.
The third barrel was in the back of the truck and luckily the chickens and turkeys were all chilling behind the huts so I was able to open the fence and back the truck up to the top of their pen. I emptied the barrel of grain and after I pulled the truck out the birds caught wind of the grain. It was a stampede of birds running for the line of grain.
@stryeyz went to pick J up from school at 11 and then took them up to the lake for R to have a play date with some of his classmates. He was super happy to get to see them again since he won't be there for his last day on Tuesday.
My chives were getting ready to flower and I hadn't picked the scapes which I know would explode in the next week. I took the shears to them and hacked them all down which gave me 3 1/4 pounds of wet chives which all went into the bag and then into the freezer for us to deal with later. They will all get run through the freeze dryer.
One of the hives needed a refill on the syrup and since it was drizzling most of the morning they weren't out and about and the hive was fairly calm. I was able to get it filled without them noticing.
The sheep needed hay shortly before we left. I was walking in the yard and remembered they needed it luckily so my mom doesn't have to deal with them.
We finally got on the road for the 3 hour drive. Traffic was not too bad on the 90 and we stopped in St Regis for gas.
Between St Regis and Ronan we saw 4 different rainbows as it rained in spats. When we hit the road to Ronan the Mission mountains were socked in with clouds and rain, likely snow in the upper reaches of the range. We stopped for groceries before heading to the ranch.
Driving in we saw a dozen deer roaming the ranch, a herd of wild turkeys, and they are running cows now where two years ago they weren't. The cows have found their way into the inner yard by the house which I don't think they are supposed to be in.
This is the view sitting at the kitchen table.
I was up at my normal time this morning, 5am my time, and an hour later the rest of the family pulled into the ranch after an all night drive from North Dakota. It's a nice sunny day now and should be the nicest while we are here judging by the weather reports. I will be roaming the ranch and rummaging into some of the areas I remember from last time we were here.

Yeah, cities are great except for how crowded they are !LOL
Any particular reason you went with the I-90 route instead of taking Highway 2?
Faster by about an hour. I made it in just over 3 hours and it would have been around 4 to go 2 to 200. With gas the way it is any miles saved is $ saved.

That was a very fuelish thing to do.

Well done, yesterday was alot of stress for you and I must say you're doing a great job taking charge of the farm activities, I love birds but my job is so demanding to venture into it hopefully in the nearest future when I get a less demanding one or a promotion here I would have time for it.
Four rainbows! That's an excellent start to the weekend! Well, except it means there was rain...
Save the bees! Great job on that.
You are in familiar territory for me! My parents retired to Ronan in 1972 and I finished high school there. I still love those Mission Mountains.
It really is an amazing area.
