My Leatherleaf mahonias are putting on new growth

in ecoTrain3 years ago

These plants also known as Oregon grapes are a holly like plant but produce an edible berry that I can cook down and make a jam from.

Being edible is nice but my favorite feature of this plant is it flowers when my Mason bees are out.

I moved one of the bushes last year and both seemed to pause their growth until they adjusted.

Eventhough it's a few months away from my bees being active, the plant will work hard to grow new flowers and stems. And by the time the bees are ready so will the Leatherleaf mahonia.

I am glad to see both of them putting on new growth. Making me think where I transplanted one of them it's quite happy with it's new location.

Looking forward to making some jam from the berries again, they have a dark red color when pressed and cooked. And tastes similar to cranberries.

A wild Anole was basking in the sun on a comfrey leaf, noticed it as I was taking pictures. Good to see that little creature. Since I ripped out my hollies seems it's now using the comfrey for cover.

A beautiful lizard. It's a completely green lizard. When I was little, we saw a walking trolley with a friend while hiking in the forest. Generally, lizards run away from humans and you will never catch them. I think only one leg of the lizard was crippled. I was small or cried for this lizard back then. We took the lizard and put it in a bowl and we created a nice environment for it. About a week later, the lizard's foot straightened and immediately slipped out of that container. I was very happy about his recovery, but I was sorry that he immediately escaped. :(

Your photos are beautiful. And some of your photos remind me of my past, my childhood years. It is really nice for me to remember my childhood years and dream about it. The grapevine photos you shared a few weeks ago also reminded me of my childhood years.

Thanks @solominer

These Anoles are interesting to me too. They can change colors from green to brown to grey. Its pretty amazing seeing them change colors on the fly. Cool story but sucks you lost it as a pet. Glad you got it healed up and helped it out.

Thank you very much, Yeah I remember you told me about a grape vine that gave you shade in the summer. I want to grow grapes like that one day.

I think my sweet potato vines are what you are thinking of. They look alot like grape vines from a distance but with bigger leaves.

I don't know the difference between anoles and lizards @solominer . What are the differences?

Yes it's a good story, I was a little kid and it's good to remember that: D

Our conversations were in your post two months ago. That day you said you want wild Muscadine vines. Could you do that?

This is the title of the post we are talking about: "Sweet Potato vines growing through the deck"

Anoles are more like chameleon with its moving eyes. But they are all lizards.

I really need more space to grow grapes but I plan on doing so one day when I have more land.

Hah there ya go it was the sweet potato leaves you were thinking of.
