Threads, would you like to see them on Ecency?

in Ecencylast year (edited)

Short-form content is thing of 21st century and we want to be forefront of technology not only on blockchain level but UI level as well.

With recent interest in community, few has been asking us to work on bringing #threads into Ecency. Although, we already made up our mind that we will bring you the #threads this spring, we would like to gather more feedback about it.

  • What do you like about current solutions?
  • What would you change?
  • How you see yourself using it on day to day basis?
Sort:

Well, It would Allow phone users to be more active on hive without trying to do post and long content.

Yes, exactly.

Im totally in favor of it :)

In general, I welcome some type of threads on Ecency, BUT...
Looking at what we have now with Leo Threads (the only thing I can compare it with) and what confuses me a lot, (and therefore, I'm not a big fan of it) is the following.
I'm hardly able, if at all, to find my own old postings on the Leo threads.

Besides that, the way how I see this currently the only available Threads on the Hive blockchain are working and are used at the moment, I would describe it as everlasting and "ever-scrolling" short posts (Twitts) that shows up in a manner "catch me if you can or endlessly scroll to find me eventually."
On top of that, from my perspective, 75% of those threads-posts are just self-promotional short notes with link(s) to promoted post(s), while the remaining 25% is some mixture of posted actual news, help requests, bug reports and here and there some fun or interesting conversation among the members.

So, what would I like to see on Ecency Threads if it's technically possible?!

  • History List of my Threads and to it connected comments/replies
  • Option to choose who to follow or not and with that connected
  • Two different options to follow or monitor - i.e., ALL tab or list for all the threads as they arrive, and some type of MY FEED tab or list where we would be able to find and see only the threads of the accounts we've chosen to follow.

To conclude...
Having the Threads on Ecency would be fun (even if they would work in the same manner as Leo Threads work currently), but still, if they wouldn't bring anything new or different and better, I'm wondering if it is worth the whole trouble (coding, preparation and launch work, afterward maintenance, bug fixes, etc.)!?!

Thank you for detailed suggestions and sharing your experience, really valuable as we design improvements…

YES please, and thank you for asking people's thoughts and feeback :)

I see #threads as a fantastic addition especially to those who love to engage or interact with others. I believe short-form contents (threads) will bring more activities on the chain. And if it helps in onboarding (and retaining) more users to Hive then all the better.

I use threads everyday so if it comes to Ecency then expect that I won't skip a day using it too.😉

All the best and salute to you for all the developments!

Thanks for encouraging feedback!

This is a great poll and this is great to see you asking for feedback!

I love to engage and short form content is fantastic. There are days I will go without posting a long form post, but don't mind making some threads.

I most certainly think 100% ecency should be getting in there, especially on the mobile app side if possible.

For myself you can put me down as using it.

I haven't been able to use Ecency day to day since the last update. I'm on PeakD right now. If I try using the Ecency app, it'll log me off within a minute or two. I don't have a PC, I do this from apps.

What I was working on last doesn't get lost, I just have to sign in again to get back to it. Try to finish, get kicked off or not, rinse/repeat.

Notifications are hit and miss too. As I write this, I switched the server over there several times and still can't receive them. I've mentioned these things on discord.

Threads, me? Not interested. Yet, at least. But I'd like the current app to work like it used to.

Thank for asking.

Mobile app update is coming out soon. We have made some progress fixing those crashes on iOS. Bear with us few more days and update should be out.

Of course. Appreciate the update, looking forward to the repairs.

It depends on how you guys do?

Will I be able to see Threads within my normal Ecency Feed? Because no you to that.
Or will it be a seperate tab?

I am not interested in Short term content, I have used Threads once.
But if it was a tab away within the Ecency app, I might use it more.

It will be part of current design, no new app or change to current structure much but additional feature.

So I would be able to see it in my feed?

If thats so, I will need a way to block it/filter it out or I will have to not use Ecency anymore as an mobile app, 'cuz thats going to be annoying as fk.

No, not in existing feeds, separate feed!

Good! Thanks!

Then I would love the feature :p

Looking forward to it. Right now I primarily use threads for sharing my other posts but I could see using it for other things should the ecency mobile app support them.

Not interested.
Thanks

Good to know, thanks for feedback! 👍

I think Ecency is the best mobile solution for Hive so far and bringing in other Dapps will expand Ecency and more users to Hive and Ecency, right now can only use threads with Keychain browser and its not so friendly as Ecency, make threads another tap and let ppl enable or disable notifications for threads, Im on the waiting camp for the iOS app update, any way you could also add Liketu to the community section? Thx

Thanks for feedback! You can subscribe to any community already and it will show in your community section, did I understand question not right, perhaps? iOS update coming soon, we are doing the best we can 😉

I think "Yes please!". I love what the #threads team have done. The way it works is quite neat too using comments rather than a full post. It would be great to combine the excellence of the Threads micro-blogging functionality into my favourite Hive front end #Ecency

I would use it to post a few random thoughts, views, pictures that were interesting to me during the day and I felt may be of interest to others. I would also use it as a means to hopefully attract more people to Hive. The key barrier to entry being usability.

Of course, tags help and on a Micro-blogging system global, regional and of interest trending tags would be key. Users need to easily find content that is of interest to them. Otherwise, it is just noise and I expect some people already see Hive like that as a newbie, and you see the stream of new posts, you will think what the hell is this?

Entry barriers should be much lower, we have tried to contribute and do our part to improve. Still there are a lot more things we can and will do to make it easier. Educational content and easy to learn about bits about Ecency and Hive is essential, this is where we are going to do more work this year.

Perhaps an inbuilt "tip of the day" feature in the Ecency app. That would provide some bitesized learning for newbies. You could even use som gasification so that they can earn some points for completing some newbie tasks.

Good idea, ultimately we have to make sure we can scale it.

I like this idea.

I just have queries:

  • Will it be available in Ecency mobile app too?
  • Will I earn ecency points if I thread using Ecency?

If your answer is YES to both, then I would really love that 🤩😅

Initially on Ecency.com after we master it then adding into Ecency mobile app too. Yes, comments earn points already so threads will earn as well.

Yes, i will like to see them on ecency. I love using ecency app daily

Threads on Ecency app?
Yes.
More convenient it might be with ecency app.
Good for Ecency itself.
Good for Threads also I guess.
And good for Hive as well.

I think threads should have a separate tab on ecency app.

Thanks for suggestion! Initially we will be testing feature on website and desktop app, gradually add into mobile app.

Been using Threads on Leothreads since beginning and it is Getting more better. !LUVING it.

I would say Ecency should work on Making Leothreads seen or interact through Ecency directly (add a Thread option in feed, from where we chose trending, hot topics) this will open doors for more users who use Ecency to experience threads and also within Hive development will Goes on next level as united. Leo team working real fast and well looking forward to see what's coming!

Indeed, short-form content has value and it does improve engagement and interaction. We have never explored that option simply because there were other alternatives but now we see that we can improve that further and do our part for adoption, growth, etc.

Great to Hear this. This will really Make Adoption and Growth 💹! Looking forward to see improvements and developments.

I use threads almost daily and I would like to see them being incorporated into a separate feed. 1 feed for my long-form / another one for threads

Nice, thanks for suggestion!

I don't know how Threads will fit into the existing structure?
In principle, I see Threads as another option to promote my own posts but that's within the Hive network.
I don't want it to be seen that way:

On the other hand, I usually share it on Twitter and LeoThreads as soon as I publish it ...

I was wondering what that was.

It will a great one Lol #threads on ecency will more users more ecencials more points and many more.

Would definitely like to see Threads in Ecency!
I use it every day, but it would be more convenient to use one app for all purposes. I hope it stays Ecency as it is now!

Hi @ecency - thanks for this great discussion: I have looked into what #threads are and am still pretty unclear - unless it really is as straightforward as Hashtags and the Hashtags being listed under each other as they are posted - either way, I am happy to see any dynamic improvement of how we both express through the app, and how our expression is digested by others - how it all connects up and thus can be read cleanly. I find it hard to navigate a lot of this discussion, with the use of acronyms and tech speak - having to look up what quite a few words mean in each post obviously takes time and distracts from absorbing the meaning. A Plain English translation for some posts would be amazing.

Just to note too: the Ecency app is working very well for me these days: it's clunky to write a long post, as obviously my smartphone buttons are small and my fingers are bigger, but I appreciate very much the good working of the app. However, I still find that onboarding friends is not easy, though I know that in theory it shouldn't be hard. I have also been blocked at a certain step, in trying to create a second Hive account, and couldn't get further than creating name and keys.

Thank you for sharing your experience and feedback!
As for onboarding, we know our checks sometimes harsh when it comes to create free accounts, but we have introduced premium accounts that should give alternative option for onboarding. Do check out on mobile app as well as https://ecency.com/signup to see those options.

I tried again to sign up with a second account, but get an 'internal server error' message

On mobile app or website?

On the website on my laptop.

I have never used threads but fully expect that if it is an Ecency feature I will be all in!

I'm not often using Threads as it wasnt very user friendly, but the new alpha looks much better. I think there is for sure space for short-form content on Hive, but if threads will just make a mess of your blog feed like Seckorama shows below, then I wouldn't want it.

Well, I have to admit that it only happened on the first day they posted...I suppose it wasn't working well yet. Now it's gone.
It would be good to have a Threads tab (or link, like Top, Friends, etc) where the data from LeoThreads would be cached and it would also be possible to write directly from Ecency. Or are you even thinking of making it a standalone Threads, just for Ecency? @good-karma

A separate feed from the blog feed I think is important.

We envision having multiple different threads, like we will have our own and give people option to switch

Agreed

In general I think #threads would be super in @ecency but, are you talking about an Ecency's version of Threads or a lean incorporations of Leo Threads in Ecency?

In regard to Leo Threads, I find it extremely difficult finding my threads and keeping track of them. Something similar to GETTR would be nice.

!DIY

Thanks for feedback, ultimately we will bring our UI to threads and gradually improve with feedback received by our community. It is important to try new techniques and improve as we gather more feedback. Suggestions like yours will help us brainstorm the UI choices.

Great! I'm looking forward to the improvements! 👍

!POB

Well if ecency is looking to implement them I guess I better go check it out. 🤔

It is not necessarily only about threads but short-form content in general, we should be inclusive to bring you long form content, short form content, video content etc.

It would be interesting, because threads is a good way to follow related posts.

Knowing @ecency UI/UX quality, #threads will surely be a great add-on to the platform. #Leo threads is showing how the community love short-form posting. If possible, make the feature available to other interfaces with a DHF proposal.

I would much rather have better content finding functionalities, for example be able to follow tags and have those in your feed. Also, multi-tag search so that you can find posts that are closer to your search criteria. Threads is nice, but making the current services stronger seems better to me than adding new ones at the moment.

Thanks for feedback!

  • Subscribe to tags seem like can be done with notifications service combined, you subscribe to any tag and receive notification if someone uses that in their post.
  • Searching should be already possible with multiple tags, have you checked https://ecency.com advanced search options?

Sorry, I should have specified I was taking on the mobile app, I hardly have access to a PC anymore so I haven't seen those functions. Would be great to have them on mobile too!

Of course for mobile we will add those as well

acgalarza just sent you a DIY token as a little appreciation for your post! Feel free to multiply it by sending someone else !DIY in a comment :) You can do that x times a day depending on your balance so:

Don't be shy - share some DIY!

Just came across this post! I would love to see Threads integrated into Ecency. It's a work in progress which is evolving into something that may be beyond even Twitter's capabilities. If it's easily accessible through Ecency, I would gladly use it through Ecency's frontend. Additionally, if Ecency point rewards are integrated into Threads, it would serve to make this frontend an even more powerful earning tool for frequent posters (and it would certainly warrant a big mention in my ongoing Ecency Delegation Experiment). Additionally, Threads as an independent feature, regardless of frontend, can help connect multiple different communities together, which can serve as a significant factor in Hive's overall growth and strength.

Hey @ecency #threads and all @leofinance @hive @peakd @liketu @waivio processing in a way or ways to enable us to have security in our savings incomes and pensions to have a tomorrow in the case and even if not some governments would decide to get on with money with a limit on time points systems and over-controlling the populations they sicken, poison and drug, just this is an amazing thing. To adapt and correlate all different arts, creations, handcraft, commerce, passion social networking without being racketeered or ransomed like the gafem do facebook google apple and other criminals that are making trillions on our backs or behind sleazily, lying like mafias criminals do. but here with the Hive Leofinance Ecency and others being able to have a secure ecosystem allowing us to save, and learn to earn like @cryptothesis shares or so many of us all over is just hope put in practice! with the @steem @upvu @leothreads and all is simply the best! at level four all!

Yes. Short content can be more convenient and possibly used by more users more often. Generating more traffic, rewards, and engagement.

Short content is telegrams and postcards from the 20th century. It only makes sense to lure millions of Twitter users. Outside of this strategy, the functionality is meaningless
