Whispers from within

in Reflections6 months ago (edited)

I'm a busy person and living in this busy modern world doesn't help despite all the time-saving aids we surround ourselves with. There's never enough time in the day or week, that's how it feels, and when one task is complete another presents itself in an endless line of things to do. It's so very tiring, but that's the world we've created and we have no choice but to live in it.

It's easy to say things used to be easier in the olden days and I believe it although I also feel there were aspects that would have kept people very busy as well. There was less automation and more physical activity required but, of course, people didn't spend time on electrical devices as they do now and in their downtime I believe they would have been in a better position to find time for themselves to think which is something many find difficult these days.

My guy took this image of me, Piazza San Marco, Venezia

People have forgotten how to listen to themselves and instead fill up every moment with stuff that doesn't really matter; I mean what other people are doing with their lives, eating, wearing, where they're going and what they have. None of it really matters to us as individuals and within our own lives.

I work very hard at life, I need to just to keep up, but I also work very hard to find the time to listen to myself, the whispers that come from deep within me and which are my true and authentic self speaking to me. I believe that one fails to heed such things at their great peril so I work on clearing away other less important things to hear those whispers from within and respect them for what they are and what they mean to my life.

Failing to listen to ourselves and heed what we hear is one of life's biggest failings and I believe so many people inhibit and restrict their lives simply by failing to listen to themselves, failing to make the time and space to listen to the whispers from within.

I do wonder how anyone gets time to think these days, when they always have some noise or other paying in their ears. I never got into that listening to podcasts and stuff while I'm out walking. That's thinking time. It's no wonder most simply regurgitate opinions they've heard somewhere rather than digesting information and formulating their own.

I sometimes wonder why people don't see the issue, that they're so oblivious to the fact they're preventing their own independent thought by feeding themselves with the noise and distraction of other people's thoughts, and most of it worthless.

A colleague asked me the other day: would I join him, for extra income, to work on weekends? has contracted work, outside of our regular work that we do every day, for the whole next year.
I thanked him and said: "My friend, when will you live?".
"There is time to live," he told me.
"No. But unfortunately, one of our colleagues, who left us 6 months ago when he was only forty years old, cannot confirm that for you."
That's why, on days when I'm not working, I find myself somewhere in nature, on a river, a lake, in a forest or a park, looking at the greenery, breathing in the clean air. I am silent, reading, listening to music or singing. I do what I feel like doing at that moment 🙂
I get there on foot or in my old car, not wanting to not have such moments for a year, just to be able to buy a newer car (not totally new, for that I would have to spend a little longer than a year...).

The location from the photo, perfect 😀

I also have it somewhere in the albums, only without these tables in the background 🙂

Somewhere in nature or in a place where a person can think clearly and look within is where we should be when possible. People all too often replace their own thoughts and feelings with those of people around them which seems so wrong considering those people don't often have any stake.

Learning to listen to ourselves takes time, time that is well spent, because knowing what our inner voice is saying is essential to avoiding mistakes. Life often sweeps us along at breakneck speed, but as you rightly say, we need to devote time to our inner selves. I find that time through meditation and being in nature.

Thank you, Becca.💗

I don't meditate in the true sense of the word I think, but I find a nice state of mind to be in, a space I create for myself in which to think and feel deeply; I enjoy that and find value in doing it.

That makes me very happy, I'll try the same. Hugs!💗
