Spring in the Countryside - Sublime Sunday

I just got back from a nice trip to the countryside for this #sublimesunday

p4179991.jpg
This area of Illinois near the town of Galena is full of hilly pasture land with all sorts of cattle grazing on the fresh green grass.

p4179995.jpg
Quite a few calves were out enjoying the sun rays.

p4179993.jpg
The adult cattle were peacefully grazing as well.

p4179999.jpg
The mother cow was wondering what in the world I was doing taking pictures of the baby calves.

p4179988.jpg
A bit farther in the farm I noticed an old abandoned barn structure with someone looking out.

p4179989.jpg
The donkey has claimed this old barn structure as her own lol.

p4179984.jpg
Another young red heifer was curious why I was taking pictures of the crazy donkey.

I finally made my way over to a Mississippi overlook. This areas is nice and hilly with plenty of high overlooks onto the river.

I took a long zoom with my lens and noticed a little boat out on a fishing trip.

Beauty!
And we don't have cows in the meadows right now.
And the meadows are overgrown with trees.

Hopefully mushrooms are growing under the trees.

Amaze

The countryside is really beautiful right now.

Ahhhh, calves in spring. Been years since we had one...

What sort of cattle did you have? I saw lots of black angus and Charolais with some red heifers in the Galena area.

Primarily Devon beef or Devon beef crosses.

I saw a few of those as well but they were far off in the distance.

I never knew how many cattle farms were in Galena. Their chamber of commerse tries to brand that area as some kind of wine country but all I see are cow pastures now lol. The grass grows easily there so it makes sense to have cows and sheep and a few horses.
