Let the Hatting Begin!

It’s that time of year again where I’ll be busy making hats for my entire family. Not only just for the seven of us but I have requests from extended family too.

Since my last pumpkin endeavor I haven’t put down my crochet hooks. I have literally been enjoying every minute of it because it feels good getting back to my craft.

Last year I didn’t make any new hats so all of the kiddos have surely outgrown theirs. I won’t be doing character hats this year partly because I just don’t feel like doing anything extravagant and also because the fact most of my kids have outgrown that stage. Although a couple of them did ask for Pokémon characters lol.

I myself have had the same crochet hats (two slouch hats and two brim hats) for the past 4 years so I am definitely making me another one as well. I haven’t decided on the style or color yet.

I want to pick out my new coat first so I can coordinate them together. I have also had the same cost for quite some time now. I’ve learned to preserve things probably way further than they were intended to go.

I can thank my dad for that. He is one to keep plastic on a new couch and in his new truck for years. He keeps so many things covered that by the time he enjoys them they have become dated. 😂

I keep my new jackets and coats covered in one of those long clear protective garment bags so they can stay new as long as possible. Most of my shoes still have their original shoe box too 😁. Not my fault, I get it from my daddy.

Anyhow, after so long it’s time for a new style. My coats are still in good condition but I’m just ready for a style change.

For this post I’ll be showing you the start of my girl’s hats. After theirs I’ll start on my boy’s hats and then comes my husbands and mine last. Extended family will get theirs after my household is all taken care of. Gotta take care of my babies first. 😌

I really like how the brim of the hats turned out. I like that they’re stretchy and will give some room. These kids grow SO fast so we gotta have some stretch.

This blue one is for my eldest daughter (age 11), it’s her favorite color. We haven’t gotten her winter coat yet but it doesn’t matter because she would still want blue whether it matched or not. 😄

This pink one is for my three year old. We both have the same favorite color. This color matches her winter coat so well and I’m really excited to get it done for her.

I decided to make both girls the same hat and all the boys the same hat but just different colors. They don’t mind and think it would be fun having similar hats. Yes, so much easier on me and less time trying to find different ones for everyone.

You get this hat, you get this hat and YOU get this hat! Everybody gets this hat!! 🤣

I normally make my own poms poms but this time decided to order some fur ones for my girls. I think they will go great with their hats.

I like that they come with strings already attached for sewing in. I’ve seen some really cute custom made ones on Etsy that I might grab for myself too.

Funny Story - This is about my three year old daughter when she looked in the bag and discovered the fury pom poms. 🤣

Daughter: Mama, come here come here!!
Me: What honey?
Daughter: What is that in there?
Me: Those are pom poms for your hat.
Daughter: I’m scared.
Me: Why are you scared?
Daughter: I scared cause they scary.
Me: Oh honey you don’t have to be scared, they are fun for your new hat!
Daughter: Can I see?
Me: Sure.

I take one of the balls out of the bag and put it on her lap…she flips out screaming “agh” and knocks it down 😆. Eventually she was able to hold it and feel how soft it was and see that it was not some type of creature. 😅

Now she asks to hold one everyday just to pet rub it. She’s so hilarious.

Well I’m off to keep working on these hats. I’ll be sure to show you how they turned out. 😉

All photos are my own and were taken with our Cannon EOS Rebel T6.

Hello , excellent that you keep your shoes in their boxes. I don't do it and they get damaged very quickly!

The hats, you have a big job ahead of you, at least 10 hats if not more hahaha ... I would start from January to have them by December!

Thanks! Yes, if I didn't keep them in there they would definitely get damaged quickly. I don't shop for myself a whole lot so I have learned to preserve things to make them last.

You’re right this is a big job. It's funny because I always love the challenge of starting around this time. If I started earlier in the year I'd get bored with it and probably wouldn't finish them. But because winter is right around the corner it makes me want to stick to working and getting them done one after the other. It helps keep me busy and wanting to finish the time sensitive challenge 😄. I think it also has to do with me being in the mood to crochet when the Fall season hits.

Thanks so much for stopping by <3

Beautiful @crosheille sorry for the stress that comes with the season 😂 however you’ll have to manage to keep your family in good health this season. Nevertheless your doing absolutely well

Thanks @smilestitches! It's actually okay because I'm not stressed at all (see my response to Tibaire).

Yes, we never go without hats. Got to keep our heads covered to stay well for sure. 😊

Thanks for the comment ~

You’re welcome ma @crosheille 😂

Yes, winter is coming and shawl and hat season!!! I secretly started a new crochet shawl in sage and black which I really do not need instead of a blue one (like your daughters) which would be much more useful. But an invisible force in the yarn shop compelled me to buy the sage 😂. But back to your hat crocheting: I so feel you. I love to start making hats and shawls when outside fall starts. And to make them for loveled ones is wonderfully fast and successful, instead of sitting for hours at the sewing machine trying to make strange alterations on clothes (I am writing about myself and my moms clothes :-DDDD but I think it also applies to @marblely )
I think it is a good idea to stick to very similar designs for your families hats, but to be creative with the colors. And very predictable I love the pink you have chosen for your other daughter <3.
Looking forward to your new winter coat (do you have a design in mind?) paired with a new hat :-)
By the way, out neighbor city is called “Hattingen” but this does not derive from “hat” (would be funny though) but from an old Germanic folk group (the Hattuarier)… I was so surprised to see you writing about Hattingen only to later understand you meant hats :-DDD

Sage and black sounds so pretty together. I know that will be a cute shawl. 😍

It’s always better for me to start in the Fall when I’m in the mood instead of doing it throughout the year where I’d be bored and probably quit. 😁

I’m not sure exactly on the design of the coat. I’ll be browsing through Pinterest to get some ideas and hopefully something will stick out to me.

Hahaha wow that is hilarious! I realized that hatting is not a word in the English dictionary (at least for the meaning I used it for) but instead it’s a slang/urban word for making hats. So funny how you thought I was writing about Hattingen <3

Happy and blessed week @crosheille,

Like you, I also keep my shoes in their original box, I find that it keeps them in good condition and also keeps them in order.

I love knitting hats, it's so much fun, and they are so quick to make too. I'm glad you are excited to make so many hats, I'm sure your kids and family will be very happy to wear them. Knit for me, I won't be able to do it for a long time, last week I asked the physiatrist when I could knit, she replied "not a chance", 🙁that has me a bit sad, especially since part of the gifts I make for Christmas are knitted, plus I had some orders that would allow for additional income.

I loved how your daughter reacted to the pom poms, to the point of finding them funny.

I'll keep an eye out to see the result of the hats...Ah! by the way, I love the pink hat😍.

May the crochet magic continue to orchestrate your hands.

Greetings💗

Oh wow that's nice to hear you keep your original shoe boxes too! Organization is definitely the other reason I do it. 😉

Yes, I am always happy to make bundles of hats this time of year. They do seem to work up fast especially when I’m going for the more simple ones. I always feel that even though they are simple you can really spice them up with color and accessories. ☺️

Oh no, I’m so sorry hearing this. 😦
I know this has you so bummed. I’m just glad she didn’t say you could never knit again. I know it may be for longer than you’d like but at least you will be able to get back to what you love after a time of healing.

I wish I could give you a real hug right now. ❤️

Although a couple of them did ask for Pokémon characters lol.

If you really make them Pokémon characters, then I am sure, next year, their friends will come searching you 😀

Hahaha yes! I could totally see that happening. 😄

I also have that thing that things last me a long time: I take great care of them and that is why they are preserved for years. Even my body size hasn't changed much since I was in high school so I have clothes that are over 10 years old. Now I struggle to try to let go of those things and get new ones 😅.

These hats will be very beautiful. The colors look bright and cute. And your daughter is very cute, I was amused about the pompom 😂.

Greetings ❤️.

Hahaha I still have a few garments that are 10 years old (and maybe even older 😁) as well. Last year I went through my closet and gave away quite a few things because I was tired of holding onto them lol. That’s great you take good care of your things.

Thank you! Lol, this little girl amuses us everyday. 😅

@crosheille wow dear excellent needlework.I love your all needle project.well done✌️👌

Thank you @sumaiya777. 😊

It's great to see you know how preserve things more than intended. I on the other hand am the queen of keeping everything carelessly until it becomes of no use to me.

Hehehe, your daughter getting scared of the pom pom is funny and now she's comfortable enough to hold one everyday. What would have happened if she didn't notice them till they were on the hat? She'll probably not wear the hat😂😂

What stitch did you use for the brim of the hat?

Hahaha oh no 😄. Preserving saves money, you should try it! 😆

Oh gosh I hadn’t thought of that 😳🤭. It’s a good thing she found it early and got over her fear before I presented the hat to her.

It’s the back loop single crochet where you stitch in the back loop only. 😉

Lol, I'll definitely try preserving. I think I'm just bad at it😂😂

Oh no wonder I didn't recognize it, I'm not so conversant with back loop single crochet. Thanks you!

Hahaha!! You’ll do great once you put your mind to it! 😄

Sure!!

Anecdotes with our children are always something fun to tell and remember, that's why I think I loved the story so much with your youngest daughter. 😅 She is in the age of discovery which is very exciting for them and taking that journey together is a lot of fun. May God bless your beautiful family!

I surely agree about that. I love reminiscing on these special moments with family and sharing them with others.

Thanks so much for your nice comment. May God Bless you and your family as well ~ 😊

Oh your baby scared of the pom-pom? it's great that she already made friends with this ;) it's very interesting to see the hats finished. I am looking forward to the result !!!!!

😄 Yes I am so glad she made friends with it before I put it on her hat.

Thank you ~
