MyPictureDay - Wednesday Walk - Some New Feathered Friends and a Fur One Too...

in My Picture Day4 years ago (edited)

Nature is so alive now with abundant bird life and new blossoms beginning to appear. I love our morning walks up to the hill top or down to the pond. Every day is a new adventure for I never know what I will find along the way and today was no exception!

When I was heading out I seen the two horse sisters laying in the grass, the youngest is so cute!

As we got closer mom came back to them and the older one stood up.

There is a sweet smell in the air as the pincherry blooms begin to open which I love!

Also a plant I love - the pussytoes are just beginning to bloom.

There are more and more buttercup blossoms out too.

Here is a familiar bloom that I caught just as it was starting to open up fully.

With the birds the American Tree Sparrow is quite abundant and there was one sitting in the tree watching me as I watched him.

On the road I spied a species of grosbeak that I had never seen in this area. We have a number of Pine Grosbeaks and Evening Grosebeaks but I have never seen the Rose Breasted Grosbeak here. It is quite a beautiful bird!

I spied a bird on the wire and took a close up but I have yet to be able to identify it. Is anyone familiar with the bird pictured below - it has me stumped? Thank-you to
@melinda010100 for identifying the unknown bird as the Kestral Hawk!

On the trail through the bush I hear a rustling in the trees and spied a jackrabbit and it was coming my way so I froze and caught a few pictures before it spied me and hopped off. You can see it had pretty much finished changing color for the season with only a few toughs of white fur still shedding out.

I took a look at a drop through the poplar trees to see if I could spy anything but there was nothing there although the view through the poplars I enjoyed.

Near the end of our walk I took a shot of the entrance of our neighbor's yard. I like the old metal wagon wheels at their gate post.

Great job @porters, upvoted and reblogged

Oh! Great photos again! The bird on the wire is a Kestrel. It's the smallest hawk in North America. I think they are pretty common. I love seeing the way they can Hover in the air.
How fun that you got to see a rose breasted Grosbeak! Now if you could just convince the other two to stop by and visit me! And we both need to work on convincing the blue Grosbeaks to come a bit farther north!

I thought the same, a kestrel when I saw it, but could not be sure, so I kept quiet.

Glad to have a second opinion on it! ❤️

Pussytoes is not something we have here. I can see why they'd be a favorite!

Always love the photos of the horses.

But my favorite was the shot through the poplars.

Totally love your walk... Horse family, flowers, feather friends... All so lovely...
