On previous occasions I have shown you some very interesting crafts, this time I would like to share with you one that is not only related to my country, but also to my state.
Recently a friend from the Dominican Republic came to visit and asked me if I could make her a few key chains to give to her friends when she returned to that country. I agreed so she bought me the materials to make them.

En ocasiones anteriores les he mostrado manualidades bastante interesantes, en esta ocasión me gustaría compartir con ustedes una que tiene relación no solo con mi país, sino con mi estado.
Hace poco vino de visita una amiga de República Dominicana y me preguntó si podría hacerle unos cuantos llaveros para regalarlos a sus amigos cuando volviera a ese país. Yo acepté así que me compró los materiales para hacerlos.
I started practicing and thinking about what things could identify my country. I immediately thought of food and it occurred to me to make some arepas in a budare, which is the utensil where these arepas can be made.
Well, the first thing I did was to make the budare. This is made with a basic shape, a round tortilla of flexible dough. I made several as you can see in the photo below, I also put a handle on them.
Comencé a practicar y a pensar en qué cosas podrían identificar a mi país. De inmediato pensé en comida y se me ocurrió hacer unas arepas en un budare, que es el utensilio donde se pueden hacer estas arepas.
Bien, lo primero que hice fue hacer el budare. Este se hace con una forma básica, una tortilla redonda de masa flexible. Hice varias como pueden ver en la foto a continuación, también les coloqué una agarradera.

After it has dried, I put some flexible dough on the back, this will cover the hook where the keychain will be held. I also painted the keychain black...
Luego de que haya secado, le coloqué un poco de masa flexible en la parte trasera, esta cubrirá el gancho de donde se sostendrá el llavero. De igual manera pinté el llavero de color negro.

For the little arepas, I made several spheres of flexible dough and left them white, then I flattened them to give them the characteristic shape of an arepa. In each budare I glued 3 little arepas.
Para las arepitas, hice varias esferas de masa flexible y las dejé de color blanco, luego las aplasté, hasta darles la forma característica de una arepa. En cada budare pegué 3 arepitas.

The last thing I did was to add some brown lines to each arepa, characteristic lines of the arepa when they are baked in the oven after being in the oven for a few minutes.
Finally, I added glue to the whole keychain and let it dry.
Lo último que hice fue agregar unas líneas marrones a cada arepa, líneas caracteríscas de la arepa cuando se hacen en el horno después de estar unos minutos en el budare.
Finalmente, se agrega pegamento a todo el llavero y se deja secar.
This was the first one I made, but I thought of making something more emblematic of my state and I thought of the entrance of a very characteristic place in my city, the San Felipe El Fuerte park.

To make this keychain I first had to make a pattern on paper, which would serve as a guide for the keychain.
Este fue el primero que hice, pero pensé en hacer algo más emblemático de mi estado y pensé en la entrada de un lugar muy característico de mi ciudad, el parque San Felipe El Fuerte.

Para hacer este llavero primero tuve que hacer un patrón en papel, que me serviría de guía para el llavero.

As I did with the budare, I made a flattened tortilla with a rolling pin, so that the dough is flat. Once the dough is flat, the pattern I made with the paper is placed on top to serve as a guide.
You can use a needle or a blade to cut it.
Tal como hice con el budare, hice una tortilla aplastada con un rodillo, para que la masa quede plana. Una vez que la masa esté plana, se coloca encima el patrón que hice con el papel para que sirva de guía.
Pueden usar una aguja o una hojilla para cortarlo.

Once cut, I made two more canes for the columns and a triangle for what would be the roof of the building, as well as some details of the place.
Una vez cortado, hice dos bastoncitos más para las columnas y un triángulo para lo que sería el techo de la edificación, además de algunos detallitos propios del lugar.

After the figurine was dry, it was time to attach the ring to hang the key ring. I placed it in the same way on the back, just like with the budare. Here are some pictures of the last steps.
Después de que está seca la figurita, era hora de colocarle la argollita para colgar el llavero. Lo coloqué igual en la parte trasera, tal como con el budare. Aquí unas fotos de los últimos pasos.

The last keychain I made, I already had a better idea of how to do it, was a keychain of the map of Venezuela.
Just like the previous keychain, I made a paper pattern and cut it on the flexible dough. I also made a round base on which I glued the cut out map. I also put a little ring to hang it as a keychain.
El último llavero que hice, ya tenía mejor idea de cómo hacerlo, fue un llavero del mapa de Venezuela.
Tal como el llavero anterior, hice un patrón de papel y lo corté sobre la masa flexible. También le hice una base redonda sobre la que pegué el mapa recortado. También le coloqué su argollita para que cuelgue cual llavero.

At this point I had a bunch of key chains on the table, all drying for later painting.
En este punto tenía un montón de llaveros en la mesa, todos secándose para luego pintarlos.
Unlike the previous ones, this Venezuela keychain is much more colorful. The first thing I did to start painting was to prepare the black paint, with which I would cover the round base behind the map.
A diferencia de los anteriores, este llavero de Venezuela es mucho más colorido. Lo primero que hice para comenzar a pintar, fue preparar la pintura negra, con la que cubriría la base redonda detrás del mapa.

Once the base was dry, I began to paint the map. The idea was to make the Venezuelan flag on the map, so the first color I added was yellow, then blue and finally red.
Una vez seca la base, comencé a pintar el mapa. La idea era hacer la bandera de Venezuela sobre el mapa, así que el primer color que agregué fue el amarillo, luego el azul y finalmente el rojo.

To differentiate it from the flags of other countries, although it is not necessary because of the shape of the map, I added the characteristic stars of the flag.
Below you can see how the keychain turned out.
Para diferenciarla de las banderas de otros países, aunque no hace falta por la forma del mapa, le agregué las estrellas tan características de la bandera.
A continuación pueden ver cómo quedó el llavero.
However, to protect this keychain, as with the others, I used glue to create several protective layers to prevent damage to the paint.
For these layers of glue you have to add one, wait for it to dry completely and then add the other one. This way until you add 3 layers of glue.
Sin embargo, para proteger este llavero, igual que con los otros, usé pegamento para crearle varias capas protectora que evite que se les dañe la pintura.
Para estas capas de pegamento hay que agregar una, esperar a que se seque por completo y luego agregar la otra. Así hasta agregar 3 capas de pegamento.
