Ability strategy analysis: Sneak

Introduction

This time we’re diving into another classic ability — and I’m trying to keep up, because with the upcoming Conclave Arcana release, Splinterlands is adding even more abilities to cover!

This week’s spotlight is on Sneak — one of the OG abilities and still one of my absolute favorites. There’s something satisfying about building a full Sneak team and just tearing through the opponent’s backline. It’s simple, effective, and every now and then, it catches your opponent completely off guard.

Ability

Targets the enemy unit in the last position

Notes:

  • Units with Sneak cannot target Camouflaged units.
  • Units with Sneak will attack Taunt units.

Synergies / strategy

First off it important to know which ruleset overrule the sneak ability:

image.png

As you can see not many only Fog of war disables the sneak other then that it will not be changed.

Abilities benefits

Sneak - Focus fire with multiple sneak units.
Opportunity - I like to combine with opportunity units so i attack the lowest health unit and the back avoiding the tank position. This way you do not focus fire but spread the attack avoiding the normal tank position.

Poison - It combine nicely with the poison ability to quicken the dead of opponent. We all known which unit we are talking about....

Be aware of abilities

Thorns - be aware of the thorns ability most of the sneak units are melee so be aware of any return damage of thorns

Ruleset benefits
Up Close and Personal - Unit will be melee to be able to attack it might be useful to bring a sneak unit, also expect sneak units.

Be aware of rulesets
Fog of War / Back to basics - This disables the sneak ability so leave your sneak unit at home.

Here are mine sneak units:

There is already one unit that i like to use very often because of the combo sneak and poison.

No1 Card: Uraeus

This time i did not have to look at my stats to known which unit to pick. Just love the combo sneak with poison.

And also looking at the stat i know why look at that win percentage with this unit. 53% with 2255 battles that is insane. It helps that its a nuetral unit there for you can place it pretty much any battle.

Here are the specific stats for Ureaus:

Strategy

Medium mana battle with some nice rulesets especially the reborn rule set is funny to play either martyr units or bloodlust unit (or both). With the available elements i will go for a sneak play.

Rulesets

Armored Up:
All unit will gain 2 extra armor

Born Again:
All unit will gain the rebirth ability. Meaning that every unit will be resurrected once it dies.

Explosive Weaponry:
All unit will gain the blast ability. Blast will do adjacent units extra blast damage.

The Lineup

Summoner

CardReason
This is not a strategy i often use but i want to select a bloodlust unit because of the reborn rule set.

Units Lineup

#1#2#3#4#5#6

Almo Cambio (lvl 4)
A heavy tank i have purchased not so long ago and its a very powerful unit as you can see. Very high health. No attack, but normally i try to buff it with some weapon training unit behind it

Thane Newsong (lvl 6)
My second unit another unit that cannot attack. You will se i will go for a heavy bloodlust sneak play with my other units. Not a lot of striking power but once it get rolling you will see. This units boost my team with health speed and extra melee attack damage. So it definitely useful. In the second position to protect my attacking units.

Queen Mycelia (lvl 4)
Give my unit some extra armor on to of the 2 we already received from the armored up rule set.

Katrelba Gobson (lvl 8)
First star of this week. This strategy heavily lean on this unit as well as Ureaus. This unit needs to be boosted with every kill. And because there are not many attacking units in my team i expect some kills of it.

Clockwork Aide (lvl 6)
Another healh and speed bonus of this unit. Placed in the middle to protect it from magic attack because with only one health its vulnerable.

Uraeus (lvl 6)
Second star of this line up also attack on the back with the sneak attack and the poison will lead to some extra damage

Rounds

Start :

Right away, I spot a big threat — the always deadly Eternal Tofu. That’s already a tough opponent, especially with Thorns in play, which is extra painful since I’m leaning into a melee-heavy strategy.

Still, I’m counting on Katrelba Gobson to carry the damage. If she can get early kills, I’ve got a good shot. But if she goes down fast, it’s probably game over for me.

The good news? My opponent’s attacks are all focused on the front, which actually works in my favor for this battle. But I did notice they placed a Camouflage unit in the back — and with the Blast ruleset, that might turn out to be a mistake.

Round 1:

image.png
Katrelba Gobson gets the first kill — exactly what I needed.
Thanks to a bit of extra health, she survives the Thorns damage and keeps the momentum going.

Then my other star, Uraeus, comes in clutch with a huge blast — taking out two units in one hit. That was a game-changing move and gave me a strong lead early on.

After that, things settled down. The rest of the battle was pretty tame, with my opponent focusing all attacks on the front line — which didn’t bother me at all, since none of my damage dealers were placed there.

Round 2:

image.png
Bam! Round 2 kicks off with a bang.
Katrelba Gobson takes down two more units right at the start — and only takes one Thorns hit in the process. That’s two more stacks of Bloodlust, and now she’s really rolling.

This is exactly what makes Bloodlust units so dangerous — once they get going, they can completely take over the battle.

Thanks to Rebirth, she gets a second attack… and you guessed it — another kill, another boost. She’s already up to 8 melee damage, and at this point, she’s becoming the absolute nemesis of my opponent’s team.

A few attacks miss on both sides to finish the round, but the path to victory is clear now — and Katrelba is leading the charge.

Round 3:

image.png
And there it is — another boost for Katrelba Gobson.
She’s completely unstoppable at this point.

My opponent did manage to get a couple of Bloodlust stacks on their Fungus Flinger, but honestly, it’s way too late in the game to turn things around.

Also worth noting — with all the speed boosts flying around, there were quite a few attacks that missed my Almo Cambio, which definitely helped keep my team intact.

Let’s head into the next round and finish this off!

Round 4:

image.png

One thing I forgot to mention — Queen Mycelia is absolutely doing her part here, keeping Katrelba Gobson healthy with that steady Heal. It’s making a real difference, helping her stay alive through all the Thorns and return fire.

Meanwhile, Uraeus is still landing hits like a champ, and that Poison is chipping away at whatever's left of my opponent’s hopes.

Oh, and by the way — Katrelba is now swinging with 10 melee damage.

One more round to go!

Round 5:

image.png
Vicotry! Only one unit has died once on my team.

Conclusion

This was a fun battle to watch — even without a ton of attacking units, a bit of luck and the right team setup can completely hold the line and deliver some devastating blows.

What really stood out here is how powerful a Sneak-focused lineup can be when you stack multiple units targeting the backline. With that kind of focus fire, and a Bloodlust unit like Katrelba Gobson leading the charge, it’s easy to overwhelm your opponent before they can react.

Sneak might be simple, but battles like this remind me why it’s still one of my favorite abilities.
