#51 - Djinn Oshannus Pulls Off A Big Upset

The theme for the current "Share Your Battle" challenge is Feral Spirit but I thought of writing about a recent battle where I pulled off a big upset against heavyweights like Mylor Crowling, Queen Mycelia and Fungus Fiend, which are cards that one would seldom see in Bronze leagues.

  • Team Setup: The context was I had a Water quest to complete that day so I was being recommended to try Djinn Oshannus and I decided to rent it for a day! Djinn Oshannus started as tank as I was predicting a Magic lineup from my opponent with Kelp Initiate buying time for Nerissa Tridawn to deal damage. Merdaali Guardian slotted in behind as healer while Venari Wavesmith will always be important in any Water magic lineup.
P.S. I was actually stunned when I saw the opposite lineup because this was first time seeing Queen Mycelia and Fungus Fiend in Bronze league (they are both expensive to rent/own!) and I thought this was going to be one of those battles where I would just get thrashed and move on to the next one.

  • Round 1: If you noticed, this was a reverse speed battle, which meant my opponents with 1 speed will attack before me. I did consider whether Djinn Oshannus should be selected as his speed was 5 (bad for reverse speed) but I still went with it (partly because I wanted to clear my Water quest). Turned out that it was not an issue because Bortus summoner + Void meant Djinn Oshannus got 0 for all the magic hits in the first round.image.png
  • Round 2: They just can't get through Djinn Oshannus while my 3 magic attackers continued to chip away their cards one by one.

  • Round 3: The same script continued and credit to Nerissa Tridawn for dealing pretty heavy damage too!

  • Round 4: At this point, I realised that I was about to pull off an upset against a much more expensive and heavyweight team!

  • Round 5: Djinn Oshannus was back to 10 HP while one last round to go!

  • Round 6: Victory!

Did the strategy work? I think it did. I avoided Melee and Ranged attacks and hence their Mylor summoner with Thorns ability and Queen Mycelia's +2 Armor had no impact on me.

What will you try differently next time? I think I will use Djinn Oshannus more often next time!

Do you like Djinn Oshannus? Why or why not? Definitely yes, I think I can see why players still like this card, regardless of whether it is paired with a +1 magic or -1 magic summoner. The best part of it is he can still attack even if he is not in tank position.

What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!

Your battle is fine, the only thing you need to improve is the format of your presentation to give it more quality.

Thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it!

Those kinds of wins feel so good. #gratz
