Mingle, a poem for every holy day

Say "Hello" to the waves that explode upon the shore
and to the leaves that rot

Write odes about tending to things that do not matter
although they do matter
as all things matter
as much as any drop of water matters
and no more

Greet at your opened wide door
the stranger bearing nothing
but a moment

Welcome the scratch of burnt toast,
made whole again by the scrape of a butter knife,
redeemed

Honor the old woman who speaks to dandelion
who touches all weeds with reverence
who regards poison ivy as softly as the petals of poppies bend in the wind

Let your heart be powered by the sudden flight of a flock of crows
and plant milkweed in mud

Mingle our waters
Grow love

This is my entry to @felixgarciap's Lyric Poetry Contest. The prompt for this edition is illusion.

All things are illusion.
Imagine what you want to be.

Beautiful, you have weaved in many beautiful images into this poem, love this one xxx

Honor the old woman who speaks to dandelion
who touches all weeds with reverence
who regards poison ivy as softly as the petals of poppies bend in the wind

That last line of those three is my favorite line in the whole poem. The best stuff seems to come out when I stop thinking, and just feel. Thanks so much for that comment!

Those three lines are the ones I chose to excerpt for a Facebook share -and for Twitter, I chose these:

Write odes about tending to things that do not matter
although they do matter
as all things matter
as much as any drop of water matters
and no more

Great stuff, Owasco! As always.

This is heavy.

Write odes about tending to things that do not matter
although they do matter
as all things matter

I wonder if pain matters. If can one rid themselves of such without birthing screaming words? I feel like I feed my readers a lot of it. Sigh.

A moment coming from anyone is everything. Ain't? Beautiful line.

I am in the business of trying to grow love and all it's magnificence but not now :(

Pain very much matters. It is your body speaking to you, guiding you, telling you to connect with your source so you can heal. Honor pain most of all. OK, maybe not above all things, but just as much as anything. Like I said.

Thank you for your comment. You've gotten me on a freewrite roll today.

It is interesting what one has to put themselves through to heal. I am annoyed at reliving the memories. It's fucking depressing. Anyway. I appreciate every word you have shared here and there.

Oh and thank you for introducing me to two communities now. Natural Medicine and this one right here ♡

This is my first post in this community. They so seem to appreciate and understand poetry. Much needed!!!

I'm learning a good song about this, Black berry winter. Check out Billie Holiday's

Then I should stay too. Will definitely check it out :)

Is the Billie Holiday version called Strange Fruit?
I don't find her with "Blackberry Winter" - but do find Marlene VerPlanck.

Blackberry winter comes without a warning
Just when you think that spring's around to stay
So you wake up on a cold rainy morning
And wonder what on earth became of May.

Blackberry winter only lasts a few days,
Just long enough to get you feeling sad
When you think of all the love that you wasted
On someone whom you never really had.

I'll never get over losing you
But I've had to learn that life goes on
And the memories grow dim like a half forgotten song
'Til the blackberry winter reminds me you are gone.

And I get so lonely, most of all in springtime
I wish I could enjoy the first of May
But I know it means that blackberry winter
Is not too far away.

Oh I think I got my singers mixed up! Detour Ahead is Billie's
I learned blackberry winter via Marlene's recording, her rendition is very close to the music as written. No stupid frills. Straight.

Why did you bold those two lines?

I was thinking of Tezmel's comments on being unable to move on from a lost love when I highlighted those lines. I've #BeenThere, #DoneThat - wasted time lamenting the loss of what never was, never would be. Seems to be part and parcel of the human condition. We should be more like dogs and live in the Now, but we live in the past and the worlds of what we wished for, not the world of what is here.... no Tezmel I am not trivializing your loss or your pain. Only saying I've had more years on me to think about Buddhist mantras and to try to detach. I'm nowhere near achieving "detachment" and "Letting go" and "Moving on." But I'm at least cognizant that we all must do that. And that moves me up a few tiles from Square One, right?
