It's been a while since I've had the time and opportunity to buy and play a game on release date. After @hiddenblade bought me a switch for my birthday I figured I'd give it a go this time around after not having touched it for over a month after playing through Pokemon Brilliant Diamond. Just been so busy with Hive things to have the time to enjoy some of the other games I purchased like Zelda. This one looked quite interesting and a bit similar to it, though, and since I've been a fan of the Pokemon games ever since Pokemon Blue for the original Game Boy I figured this was a good time to get back into it.
I'll be posting some screenshots I took every now and then throughout the first playthrough and tutorials following the first missions and adding some comments to what was going through my mind at the time. Hope you enjoy.
Heyo we got the first images from James Webb! Okay, too soon. It started off like this with what I assume Arceus was talking while I regained consciousness in the void of space.

It starts with me waking up after having fallen from the sky and being greeted by a few Pokemon and a Professor.
Great already having to do work. I just woke up and am drinking coffee after having thrown some votes around with @ocd, geez.
I'm liking this pov so far though, reminds me of the usual MMORPG's I used to play quite a lot. Nice seeing Pokemon finally diving into these after so many years just keeping their franchise limited.

Alright, this seems kind of cool, you have to aim and can walk at the same time before throwing a Pokeball at a Pokemon.

It's not New World graphics, but still nice for the switch.

Something every MMO needs, a map! You can also pinpoint where you want to go so it guides you to the location while you running.

Apparently they're all astounded that I managed to catch 3 Pokemon in a row so they're gonna put me to that test again instead of just blindly believing what that weird Professor says.
Professor has to make sure his image isn't questioned so he's gonna help me out a bit more with having my own Pokemon, I of course choose Cyndaquill cause he looks most badass once he evolves, if they even evolve in this game, hope so.
The water hamster isn't so happy with my decision.
On my way out there is the usual first time battle with this person.

I like the way the bag looks in this game.
Apparently I can crouch down so they don't notice me and run/fly away from me imprisoning them inside a pokeball.
Got ya.
Some Pokemon get aggressive, instead of me taking the hits I can use my Pokemon as a shield and have them battle and catch them off guard with my Pokeballs.
Alright, mission done.
That's nice.
I'm adapting well.
Oh there's crafting in this game, nice. Looking forward to see what else I can craft aside from Pokeballs.
Stopped playing after that, will have to check if I can also record gameplay on the switch beside just taking screenshots. Will post more about the next missions and what they'll have me do. Hopefully it'll be less handholding and more freedom to do whatever quests and grinding/catching Pokemon I want to fill up the Pokedex.

It sure looks better than I thought it would be. I’ve just seen the screenshots of the barren wastelands. They’ve put in some work towards the end for sure. I might get it but will probably wait a bit. Have so many games I’m playing at the same time now.
Damn, we Pokémon fans have always been waiting for something like this, an open-world game in 3-D, I like that despite the time, the graphics are still animated and do not lose the essence of Pokémon itself. How is the soundtrack? I feel it's a bit epic, mixed with boredom xD. Btw, you have talent to make a comic haha.
I'm very glad that Pokemon is trying to evolve, I was never a fan of this saga in any sense, neither watched the series, nor played the games, but I have tried some of them. Graphically it looks a bit ugly I think, the Nintendo Switch can give much more than that, it proved it with several games like The Witcher, Zelda Breath of the Wild or Doom Eternal, so I don't understand why Pokemon Company with all its budget only comes to this.
Nice it looks like a mix of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Animal Crossing for the cute graphics lol. Did you have to move the switch around just to aim? I found it uncomfy with Zelda at first but now that I've gotten used to it I find it so much easier than aiming using the stick.
Hmm no, you just use the right stick to move the camera around. Don't think I'd be a fan of moving the Switch itself. When I saw you do it once I initially thought you're doing that old "jump" move where you think it helps your character jump if you also jerk the controller up at the same time. 🤣
Lol, or that classic moving your head when trying to dodge in FPS games thing. 😛
I've been wanting to play this game on Switch, while I'm testing it emulated and found it interesting. I started playing pokemon blue, but I didn't have a gameboy, I played it with the adapter that came with pokemon stadium for the Nintendo 64.
lol that brings a lot of memories, I used to connect my buffed up pokemon from the gameboy onto pokemon stadium to beat the league there.
yes, that was the best thing, being able to add trained Pokémons. At home we had a video game center and people came from different places to play pokemon and do battles with the pokemons they trained in the game. I don't know if you remember that when you connected the game to the N64, you could activate the speed of Doduo and Dodrio and play pokemon moving very fast. Good times
Oh yeah that rings a bell, I remember the duduo symbols. That really helped get all the needed xp to grind your Pokemon to 100 and grind the money for the boosters, unless you used the missingno hack and didn't care about all that of course. :P

I am going back and forth about getting this game. It is the Pokemon game that I have been dreaming of, but has it come too late in my life? I'm pretty sure I could get addicted to this if I just give it a chance... but I seriously haven't played my Switch in well over a year.
I was like you and told myself I'd go with Cyndaquil, since Typhlosion is one of my favorite final evolutions ever. However, after I saw Typhlosion without flames in a video, I know just think of him as some stoned rat-looking hot dog thing. Sure the ghostly flames looked cool after I saw them. I can't help but think that Decidueye and Samurott look better in this game, at least to me.
Although not starters, I'm hyped that Chimchar, Turtwig, and Piplup are in the game. Three awesome starters from other games. Infernape is one of my favs.
February is such a packed month for games, but I feel like I may break down and get this eventually.

I’ve been looking at this game. I am hoping it is written at a more grown up level because the last Pokémon game I played, it seemed like it was written for six year olds to play. I never got into the Pokémon series and have wanted to play them, but don’t want to play a game that feels like it was made for a toddler.
The game looks very interesting, it will surely be a good adventure. I remember with pleasure the first pokemon games on the first gameboy, they managed to make you dream. Of the masterpieces.
I really want to play this game the truth that at the beginning I was not surprised to feel that I lacked more pokemon to the final I saw the recent trailers and I end up convincing myself I hope that in the end it will not be like the remake of Sinnoh that was a disappointment for me

The graphics are way cooler than the gameboy graphics.
This is one of the issues I wish we can have on hive.. Games with good graphics and not just basic 2d graphics.

Just wait for @psyberx. That will be a real game in the Unity/Unreal game engine. The game will have NFTs and the LVL token, which is already available to trade on the Hive Engine.

I have not played any Nintendo Switch games so far, but this gives the classic Pokémon feeling. Good childhood memories.

As far as I understand, Legends arceus doesn't involve any actual walking around, right? Or maybe I'm mistaken as I haven't played it yet.
Yes, I'm talking about Pokemon Go, as I understand it, these are two different games, at first I thought that they were somehow connected.
Although yes, these two games are definitely related, since both there and there Nintendo took part, and the hoods and interface are similar.
There are so many pokemon games, it's hard to keep track which are related and which are not lol! Especially because Pokemon Go does a promo event for most other pokemon games like for the brilliant diamond and shining pearl, Pokemon snap and most likely there will be a promo event in Pokemon go for Legends Arceus too.

Very true, @acidyo - very lame indeed. Quite a few players asked for a chance to keep it going by paying a subscription, and there was petition going on as well. Niantic didn't even bother to respond.
