How Skate City combines the playability of mobile simplicity with aesthetic minimalism

I've been a little irregular with posting and interactions for a few days but work has me out all day and the little I see by Ecency does not compare with everything I can see when I'm at the computer at home with a coffee at hand, I have not played too many games this week but if I could download another of those little games that give a lot in an afternoon and are fun to experience, I had already played other minimalist Skate games like OllieOllie on mobile but this one attracted me for being an unusual port, from mobile devices to consoles, with a good price and an amount of content that is just right to enjoy a few afternoons of a good Skate game, maybe not at the level of the most complex experiences like the Skate saga but it does great transmitting the feeling of being on top of the skateboard with an addictive proposal as are the endless runners and an aesthetic with soft colors that is very reminiscent of relaxing zen games.

It does not take too much introduction to dive right into cities like Barcelona or Los Angeles with a perspective purely in 2 dimensions but offering that visual trick that makes us see the tricks and the setting in a third dimension, I understand that the mobile version is quite identical to the PC version and this although it maintains its essence but it may seem that the game is far behind in terms of graphics or animations, Sometimes the optimization also fails and we have some lags that at first are not usually annoying but when you're breaking a record and in full acrobatics you end up diverting you can end your patience, that touch of minimalist skate that has saves it from a harsher criticism in terms of modeling and animations but if you come just for the experience and its mechanics I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

As I said the endless runners are a category of game that does not give for much depth, you start the game, you challenge yourself at every step to get further and end the game crashing, that's the usual experience, But with Skate City that competition is replaced by an enjoyable and reassuring environment that while maintaining the challenge the best it can do is to immerse the player in its mechanics, which are simple and accessible even for those who have never played one of these games, the skateboard accelerates alone and we only have to be aware of the obstacles along the way to overcome them, We will have a joystick (which for this point is the most common thing I've seen in Skate games) to do all the stunts and backflip we want while we add the highest score we can, in the background we will have the quiet atmosphere of 3 different cities (Oslo, Barcelona and Los Angeles) and the proposal is very simple to understand but complicated to perfect at all, it is also true that the obstacles most of the time are not the most complicated and that the real challenge is to perform as many pirouettes as we can.

Outside the gameplay there are some extras and usual in this type of game as the points earned in each of our falls and with which we can buy improvements to our table or objects with which we can customize our table and skater, also the game boasts two game modes, the classic endless in which we will have to avoid obstacles while doing tricks and one more "simple" in which we will not have any obstacle in between and our goal will be to make the highest score possible based on Backsides, Flips, 360º and all kinds of acrobatics, personally I'm still mastering both but this second mode is the one that has given me more headaches.

Skate City has seemed to me that it follows the same "relaxing" line as other titles that I have analyzed in the blog as The Ramp, a simple gameplay to learn but difficult to handle perfectly, a staging where the chill and relax is the first and last thing you are looking for and an experience in their game modes that gives to entertain us for a while, for its price is more than convenient if you want to spend a few minutes enjoyable especially for lovers of skateboarding.

I really like the minimalist aesthetics that this game has, to make screenshots I think it's crazy, everything looks like art. Beyond that, I prefer the realism in Skate, obviously it's a different game, but I'm not convinced. I'll try it anyway, it's quite curious.

I've been looking for some skateboarding Game for mobile but none catches My attention, and this has an aesthetic that i love and i think i'll try it, thanks bro!

I love the design and setting, looking at the screenshots they all give me that "relaxing" feeling. Although I'm not a fan of this genre, I like that it's available on phones, maybe I'll give it a try, it seems fun to play there for at least a couple of hours.

This game looks great, unique. I’m going to find it 🤔
