Play2Earn is taking the Gaming stage like a storm or rather a Thunderbolt, I don't know which one to call it. And as expected we have seen a HUGE amount of Play2Earn titles being released. League of Kingdoms is an MMO Play2Earn Blockchain game built on Ethereum and I would be giving my first impressions of it in this blog. essentially, if you are looking to learn more about this game, or to develop a better strategy around it, this post is gonna come in handy for you.

Short Story about League of Kingdoms (LOK)

I started playing LOK a couple of weeks back, I think in the last weekdays of September. I can't pinpoint exactly why and honestly, I thought straight away that this game was a Gem. I've seen A LOT of people complaining on Reddit about the Poor Quality of Play2Earn games, people ridicule them, and certainly (those that play them) do NOT necessarily enjoy it as much as to earn from it. Personally, I thought it ridiculous that these games were of such poor quality - Yeah, it seemed like developers around the world were aware of the great upsurge in hype surrounding play2earn, and couldn't care less about anything other than to earn quick bucks (certainly not ALL developers). I decided that I would give preference to games that had quality(Maybe that way I could find the Next Black Swan), therefore LOK.

My very first impression on seeing this game was, This looks exactly like Lords Mobile, and after about 10 minutes of playing, I concluded that the mechanics and story were ALMOST the same as Lords Mobile and might I add, Clash of Clans, does that bother you? It need not at all. Let's dive into LOK in full;

  • Play2Earn features in LOK; Minting, more Minting, and Landlords
  • Overall Game Features; Alliance, Continents, and Rallies
  • Most Underrated Play2Earn Game and Conclusions

Ok, before we make that full dive, let's briefly continue with my story. After writing the sections above, I thought that I might have nowhere suitable to include this. And, as I said, this game has the feel of Lords Mobile (Among the top 10 most popular MMO Worldwide), and if that turns you off, it's perfectly alright Because, we are ONLY humans and therefore shortsighted, as my first reaction was just like; Ah I see, League of Kingdoms? more like Copy Cat Unfriendly!. And like many others would-be, BUT, when you start to look deeper into the game, you find out that there are a lot of unique features never seen before in the Play2Earn community. And that's where I come into the picture xD.

play2earn features in LOK and how YOU can earn

LOK like every other Play2Earn Game has its own special way for players to be rewarded and that doesn't include breeding. In LOK, the main aim is to gather resources, change them into an NFT (by minting), then sell.

We have 4(four) kinds of resources in LOK (Food, Stone, Gold and, Wood), which can be gathered/stored either by building farms and buildings which produce them or by farming(also called mining) for them - in other words, Play2Earn is directly linked to Farming Resources in LOK, let's consider in more details;

Mining Screen_1.jpg

The first way you can earn by playing LOK is by Farming for resources, on the face of it, this is entirely straight forward and ANYONE CAN DO IT, No one is that dumb not to. Simply go out and Mine any of the four available resources in LOK.

Food - 10 million food 1.jpg
Stone - 10 million stone.jpg
Gold - 10 million gold 1.jpg
Wood - 10 million wood.jpg

There is certain amounts of resources that once attained can then be converted into an NFT by burning. For Instance; You can mine the stone resource and acquire 1 million stones, after so doing, the Next step would be to burn this and get a Blocked, Caked looking NFT of that same Value.

1million stones.png

LOK has dedicated marketplaces on Opensea and Atomic Hub where you can sell this at prices of your choice.

So to recap you can earn in LOK;

  • Farm for Resources
  • Once you attain a special amount
  • Burn these resources into an NFT and transfer them to the marketplace.

Simple as that, until you get into more details like;

  • How do you farm for resources if you have just a small troop?
  • Stacking up resources, no no, no it could get stolen?
  • Burning resources cost a 40% fee and marketplaces are no fun?

In the next section, we would see how to answer all these questions but for now, let's look at the second way you can earn in the League of kingdoms

The Second way to earn in LOK is by owning Lands, in other words, getting the Landlordship title. This is one special part of LOK you can appreciate, as it's unique to it and cannot be found in its supposed imitation such as Clash of Clans and Lords Mobile.

By owning lands in LOK, you are qualified for daily rewards which are distributed in the crypto DAI, this reward is calculated based on a couple of factors, such as; How many Kingdoms are Mining resources on your Land and your Land Level. Lands can be bought directly from other players on PlayDapp and Opensea with increasing prices for higher Land Levels. To read more about lands in LOK and how rewards work, go here.

Overall Game Features; Alliance, Continents, and Rallies

Now that you know the earning mechanics in LOK, I would like to share my ideas on playing and strategies that can be utilized for the different Game features we have;

Alliances; Alliances in LOK are special groups of people/kingdoms that come together, join forces, for the greater benefit of all. There are multitudes of Alliances in LOK and you can join open alliances or alliances with confirmation rules. By Joining an alliance, you unlock the ability to request help from teammates and give help in return, during which you can earn a certain in-game token that can be used in the Alliance Shops to purchase special upgrades and boosters. Not just that, when kingdoms come together to form alliances, they combine their forces and troops to defend against incoming threats from other players, they can also go on adventures like Rallies to plunder other Alliances resources - which is distributed to all members in the Alliance.

Alliance Screen_1.jpg

There are different alliances you can join, but the more serious players join Alliances that give the assurance of active players so that they can go on missions together and obtain more forces to improve their Kingdom power. Keeping this in mind, be aware that there are dedicated alliances communities that work together and reward their members with different perks. I know of two such alliances that are growing every day with the potential to expand as LOK keeps gaining people attention, you can find them on discord here;

NFG - Non Fungible Gaming on Discord
APEX on the Banana Ape Kingdom

Rallies; I mentioned Rallies just above, and if you got the idea, you now know that Rallies are just Battles fought between and among Alliances and Individual Kingdoms. Rallies in LOK are organized battles in which there is a combined effort, and forces of individual kingdoms belonging to an Alliance towards Another. Rallies are the feature that Alliances use to establish power amongst themselves and upscale their battle points.

Battle Rallies Screen_1.jpg

Continents; This idea in LOK I think is the most admirable for me, it adds that final element that really makes LOK feel like a real collection of kingdoms.

continent screen_1.jpg

Just like here on Earth, there are established continents on LOK referred to as Continent 1, Continent 2, and so on up to the current Continent, which at the time of writing is 16. Starting from 1, continents are able to contain a certain amount of Kingdoms which once filled, unlocks a new Continent of the ascending number. Continents apart from their kingdoms count and for specification of where you belong also have another purpose. Alliances in eligible continents are able to compete in Contest battles referred to as CVC(Continents Vs Continents)

LOK is an entirely free-to-play game in my opinion, in which a new beginner can scale the ranks in just a few weeks. If I had to give it a mathematical tag, I would say LOK is a liner et exponential Play2earn game( xD), the amount of effort is directly proportional to your output(just). If you go farming for resources 10 times, you get the exact resources farmed into your storages vault, no more no less. As I said, on the face of it, it does seem easy, but if it were this easy - Everyone would have their way too fast, and too easy - Supply would then Choke the Demand causing LOK to diminish in value for all players, and surely we can't want that. But thankfully there, are more details involved that makes it miles more strategic;

  • Starting off as a small kingdom - you have a small amount of troop(Soldiers), keeping the resources you can farm for at a minimum. The time spent would be outrageous if you depend on this efficiency from your troop, what remains is to upgrade your kingdom, forces, troops, power using resources and playing the game earnestly. Soon enough as you start to upgrade your buildings and Levels, it becomes easier to earn passively and your troops have a greater stronghold to farm.

  • I talked about Alliances and Rallies, Divisions that battle against each other, players raiding other players, Well this is one of the concerns that should be in your mind, as you work your way up, your resources are at risk from attackers and raiders, whether you are in an Alliance or Not. This can happen very frequently, I remember how many times I have come in to find my resources squandered below where I left it. This is normal and adds to the competitiveness of the game, just like I said before, creating a powerful kingdom would greatly minimize your losses by limiting who you can be attacked by as your defense would stand up to raiders in your absence.

  • Resources burning takes a minimal 40% fee every time you burn, what this means is that to create a stone NFT of 1 million, you would need to stack up approximately 1.4 million for the transaction to be successful. This fee increases proportionally as with the value of NFT to be created. I.e, As high as 4 million stone resources for a 10 million Stone NFT you wish to create. This goes and links back to my last point, stacking up more resources for long periods of time can be risky and it takes strategy and certainly patience for you to build a powerful stronghold then maybe you can start feeling comfy and fattining your wallets.

Conclusions

How exactly I came across LOK is something I cannot remember, it was during the Play2Earn Gaming itch I had in September and I was browsing them like crazy, reading so many Reddit threads, I think I might have found it that way. I didn't start playing immediately until about two weeks later, and I immediately loved LOK. Why? For the following reasons; One of the best graphics and gameplay for a Play2Earn game, similarities to Lords Mobile but with unique differences, efforts proportionate to yield results - exactly my kind of game. I honestly felt initially that I was late to LOK and regretted coming in two weeks after I'd heard of it, as you might know, the first/early players are usually lucky and find things easier in new gaming titles everywhere before more rules are instituted. That was until I visited the discord channel. I truly thought this game was highly underrated at just 5000 members on their Discord for a game that was released in 2020. I mean, this is a great game and not like the many shitty Play2Earn games that exist today. LOK remains underrated, but not for Long.

If at all, the most essential element in a play2earn game is the Ability to Earn, I think all users would agree with me in this, I mean look at Axie Infinity, it remains number one because People are actually making money from it. Some more than others, understandably. Now, when I think about LOK, I see a lot of Earning opportunities, and I also see massive Growth just like Lords Mobile. This isn't just Intuition or my guts, but it has something to do with Thought Experimentation. While there are elements I can not see, I see other elements that are guiding my projections of LOK;

  • MMO(Massively Multiplayer Online) Games are known to have Big Audiences, whether they are similar to each other or freaking not, Almost all of them have their huge audience of dedicated Fans. Look at Clash of Clans, Lords Mobile, Final Fantasy, Roblox, World of Warcraft and so many more.

  • At a Basic level, LOK is Free 2 Play, No Paywall, Available to All. Most might see this as a disadvantage, BUT, Ascending to the Very top Takes time in LOK and if you can't wait it out, you must buy resources. Not Only do new players have to buy resources, Anyone CAN

  • The Game is Plenty of Fun, I honestly sometimes forget that I'm here to make money, and I just want to level up my Kingdom and Lord Power. Once people start seeing this, player retention comes into play. No new title can rip players off completely as you would see in other Play2Earn Games.

  • The current ways to Earn are just so-so, In my opinion. I can't judge LOK by the current earning means because as much as it works, It can be stressful to earn considerate amounts(sometimes having to create multiple accounts which is allowed). BUT, there are so many other Earning means I can see being implemented in the future, the Game-Economy would allow for that. Take for example;

    • In-game Shopping for Boosters, sold by players

    • Presidentship in Alliances, Continental Zones, Voting Shares

    • Troops Delegation, Renting and Sales

What remains is for me to keep getting stronger in LOK while pitching my ideas to the devs and team. I could realize LOK's potential to scale from the very first day I saw(played xd) it, but can you?

Thanks for reading, and I hope this guide helps you kickstart your adventure in LOK.

Very comprehensive writeup - thanks. Odd that landowners are rewarded in DAI instead of an in-game token (like TLM in Alien Worlds, for example). They also require landowners KYC to collect rewards.

Yeah, thank you very much for the warm welcome, in my opinion, felt great to share knowledge on what I knew about these games. Hmm It is odd indeed for Dai to come into the picture, I didn't expect it myself, but for the KYC I might say, are they trying to limit people with multiple accounts to just one account Land earnings? Last I checked though you could earn from multiple accounts minting NFTs

Nice and detailed write up here. Enough to conclude that it's a game that doesn't suit me well. I'm glad it clicked for you though. Go earn!

Wow, thanks, I feel bad hearing it, but since it doesn't suit you not much can be done. I should just add that I enjoy Kingdom upgrade and Battle games, that must be why it clicked immediately. Hopefully, In the future, I'll write about a game that suits you perfectly xD, I really appreciate the input!.

Thanks for sharing! This game sounds right up my alley, I've always liked games like these, played Game of War fire age and other copies back in the day, and spent some money on them too lol. In fact im downloading it on my phone as im typing this xD

Lol, Great to know you love it because I do too. If you need some other in-depth info you can hit me up anytime(I think my discord is shared somewhere). Maybe you should also take a look at the discord Guilds NFG and see if you can cope. They practically give rewards to kingdoms who farm resources on their lands
