Digital paradise 🎮🏝
Last night I went down a video game purchasing wormhole. I am going to blame it on eating two Delta-8 gummies earlier in the evening. After browsing the active sales on the PlayStation store, I ended up spending a total of $91.
Lets take a closer look at each of the games that I bought last night.
1. Doom Eternal
$24 — 39GB
I have been waiting for this game to go on sale for awhile now. I knew it would be receiving a discount soon, but I didn't know I'd be able to get this one for under $30. I wanted to buy this game before the free next-gen upgrade is released, it should be happening anytime now. I am a huge fan of FPS games, so it is probably surprising to know that this will be my first Doom game. I am assuming that it will be a lot like the first time I played Unreal Tournament, I immediately fell in love with that game. Fast paced shooter action makes me happy and I'm usually pretty awesome at it too. I cannot wait to play this at 120 fps, better be in 4K too. It will sit in my library until the PS5 version becomes available.
Metacritic Rating 87/100
2. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate
$40 — 134GB
This is another game that has continually slithered higher and higher towards the top of my wish list. I had the option of buying the Ultimate edition for $60. I instead bought the original game for only $15 and then paid $25 to upgrade that version with all of the dlc. Essentially getting the exact same Ultimate edition for only $40. This includes nearly 40 characters and tons of alternate costumes for customization. The main reason that I wanted to play this so badly is because I am excited for the Mortal Kombat movie in 4K on HBO max releasing April 23.
Metacritic Rating 88/100
3. Injustice 2
$5 — 28GB
This is sort of a continuation of my desire to play Mortal Kombat. I saw Injustice 2 on sale for only $5, but it didn't come with any of the dlc ($40 additional.) I honestly didn't care too much about that since the original game has all of the best characters. I had such a great time with Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe back in 2008. Plus I really enjoyed playing the original Injustice that came out in 2013. Somehow I never played the sequel, now is the time. I think playing this game will also help me to familiarize myself with the DC heroes/villians a bit more. Since I recently subscribed to HBO Max, I have tons of DC Comics movies & tv shows to watch now.
Metacritic Rating 87/100
4. Plants vs. Zombies: Battle For Neighborville
$10 — 13GB
I played the original Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare back in 2014, it was an absolute blast. The third-person online multiplayer shooter really felt good. The graphics were beautiful, characters creative, gameplay addicting, and the card collecting system was addicting. I never played GW2, which came out in 2016. The latest Plants vs. Zombies came out in 2019 and looks to be the most polished of the three. Hopefully I am as good as this one as I was the original. It reminds me of Call of Duty mixed with Star Wars Battlefront, but really there isn't a game exactly like this one.
Metacritic Rating 77/100
5. Lichdom: Battlemage
$2 — 15GB
This was the most random game that I purchased. The two main factors for me getting this one was the price and uniqueness of the game. Its a first-person magic game where you dual-wield your supernatural powers. You mix and match different spells to create and endless amount of abilities. I had never heard of it before, but I felt the need to add it to my library.
Metacritic Rating 69/100
6. Xenon Racer
$5 — 4GB
I love cars, there is no denying that. Another thing I really enjoy is the idea of a highly technological future. Meet Xenon Racer. I stumbled upon this game and thought I might as well get it. From the looks of things, it will be a lot like the arcade racers I remember playing as a kid. High speed with lots of drifting. Plus some gorgeous environments and interesting car mechanics; the vehicles morph as you go faster to increase aerodynamics.
Metacritic Rating 64/100

Awesome! Doom and Doom Eternal are two games I’ve been putting off for to long. They’re on sale often though so one day I’ll go for it. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on these as you try them out!
I am still going to save Doom Eternal for a while longer, I feel good about getting it for under $25. I have high hopes that the PS5 version is really going to be worth the wait.
Good choices! I didn't know about Lichdom it kinda reminds me of Skyrim from the review video.
I got lucky to randomly stumble over Lichdom, the idea interested me a lot. It is like taking the magic system from Elder Scrolls and focusing just on that in a game, with even more spell options. Hopefully it is not too old for me to enjoy, the ACG review gave me a bit confidence in it.
Haven't tried mk11 yet, but I'm sure it's awesome. Did you know a movie will be released soon? I'm looking forward to it!! :)
I just tried it briefly last night, it is a whole lot of fun. More of what we love in the classic MK fighting style, but with the best visuals that I have ever seen in a fighting video game.
I am so hyped for the movie in a few weeks, that is the main reason that I purchased the game actually.
That's wonderful! I have games for PS4 thanks to "Play at Home". But I haven't a PS4 or PS5. Hive, give me the power! :p
Let’s hope that Hive will give you what you need in order to join the PlayStation fun.
