A New Battlefield | BF4

Battlefield is Expanding

I am a huge Battlefield fan. Back in the 2000s, I enjoyed playing Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142... Vietnam... Bad Company... Bad Company 2... BF3... BF4... BF1... A LOT.

In short, I played Battlefield a lot. I played almost all of them (except Hardline, I never managed to like that game, felt like a filler) throughout their releases. As a person who does enjoy both arcade and competitive shooters. I do think that I experienced a lot of different games. (I like CoD too) But there is something that draws me back into Battlefield every single time.

It's actually pretty simple. Battlefield offers a lot. Nice graphics, good gameplay, spectacular vehicle combat... You want it, it has it.

Or it used to...

Now, unfortunately, it became something so annoying and disliked by the gaming community that EA, the company we joke about them being the most greedy company out there, gave Battlefield V copies for free at least twice in the last couple of years.

The game was... not fun. The promised game was a nice WW2 game where people would enjoy playing, the end result was a politically correct, historically wrong mishmash of some weapons and fake soldiers that you played as. With the new mechanics added and old mechanics removed, the gunplay had turned into something pretty much nonexistent. Whoever shot first, won. That was about it. The guns pretty much felt the same, the only difference was their looks and how you would have to do various missions to unlock them initially.

A lot of things happened in EA since then. Studio heads changed, they admitted their fault (I mean, EA gave their biggest AAA game for free) and have delayed the new Battlefield's development for two whole years. Since Battlefield 3, EA usually followed a strict "once every 2 years" release scheduling for Battlefield series, BF4 came out 2 years after BF3, BF1 came out two years after BF4, the same thing with BF5. But for the last 4 years, there was no Battlefield. BF5 came out in 2018.

But now, they recently announced that two new Battlefield games were in the works. A brand new, better than before (rumoured to be modern) Battlefield experience on PC and Consoles, bigger than ever before. (64v64, probably) With more content than ever. Due to release Holiday 2021 with the announcement probably coming in May.

In my opinion, this is Battlefield and EA's "make it or break it" moment. Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5 were lackluster in comparison to BF3 and BF4's success.

And the not so welcome, Battlefield Mobile, I am pretty sure no one cares so I will not delve deeper into it. It's to be released sometime in 2022

Reminiscing

@mrtats and I downloaded yet another old game, Battlefield 4, and played it for a couple of rounds in the last two days.

I was actually surprised to find out that even after 8 years since it has been released, there were hundreds if not thousands of players in different servers. At a glance in EU time alone, there were at least 20 to 30 servers with 64 players playing at the time.

Playing it, it felt so good. The enjoyment was just as the same I had 8 years ago. The spectacular vehicle combat, different ways to outsmart your opponent with a tank where you did the following the make them go crazy:

You and your friend get in the tank, both of you will have engineer kit with SMAW (or RPG, strong AT rockets that don't require locking on) and then you'll engage enemy tank in 1v1 -- 2 tanks fighting against each other. After both tanks fire, there's a few seconds of reload time involved. At that time, your friend will immediately get out, shoot an RPG at the enemy tank, and get back in.

This pretty much guarantees the victory over enemy tanks, alternatively, your friend can also get out in critical situations to repair the tank quickly.

All in all, we had a blast!

Okay, this post is getting too long again.

TL:DR: New Battlefield game is coming soon. Probably announced next month. BF4 was fun and still is a lot of fun.

And BF4 is really enjoyable, compared to Shitfield 5

Ha! I knew there was a decline in the Battlefield saga, for every new Call of Duty there was a Battlefield too (or at least that's how I remember it). Honestly I was never a fan of this game, I don't know, I've always been more attracted to Call of Duty as I find the stories quite entertaining compared to Battlefield.

Maybe Battlefield is more for online players and Call of Duty for single player (the last Call of Duty I enjoyed playing online was BO2, although the mobile is pretty good too)

Call of Duty has (in my opinion as well) always excelled at stories. Even the standalone games like Infinite Warfare, Advanced Warfare have relatively nice stories.

Battlefield has always been about the gameplay though. Though I believe they're starting to pay more attention to the SP lately.

Yeah, Advanced Warfare story was pretty good, especially Ghosts was the one I liked the most

Hopefully someday I can give Battlefield a try, I have friends who have it on console, so maybe it would be a good idea.

the battlefield saga in my opinion has been a brutality, maybe they could have improved in some aspects, but the games are spectacular. interesting post! it has been a while without reading about battlefield, greetings.

I played a lot of BF4, BF V is still a lot of fun but it is loaded with hackers and combat is a twitch feast. The new maps where you push to different zones is really fun, but it does get frustrating as it feels very unfair and unbalanced.

If you want a challenge and like gun play, check out Hunt: Showdown, it's pretty much all I play these days. It's really hard and strategic. Think of it like Dark Souls with guns in terms of difficulty. If you do give it a go, hit me up if you need a team mate.
