All gamers need Vampire Survivors in their library

in Hive Gaming2 years ago

One of the weirdest games to blow up in popularity lately is Vampire Survivors. This is a $3 game made by a single person that looks like it came out of the 90s. It's amazingly simple and simply amazing.

I personally found out about this from @kaelci through this post. If you're not following @kealci already I suggest you go do so. She's one of my favorite content creators here on Hive. This was back in February though and it wasn't until I saw Asmongold playing it on stream rather recently that I decided to give it a go. Some of you have already seen me playing this on stream but I decided a game like this deserves a post on its own.

What is Vampire Survivors?

Vampire Survivors is a simplistic rogue-lite where the goal is quite simple. Survive for 30 minutes by killing everything the game throws at you. And the game throws a lot at you. You'll be getting upwards of 30000 kills in a single game if you make it to the end.

When I say the game is simplistic I mean it. How this works is that you select your character and level at the start. Each character starts with a different weapon. As you kill enemies they drop gems that can be picked up for EXP. Every time you level up you get 3-4 choices of either gaining a new weapon/skill or upgrading an existing one. That's pretty much it. The rest of the game is simply using WASD to move around the map.

There's also a few objectives to watch out for. Most maps have unique items you'll need to pick up to strengthen your save file as well as unlocking new characters. Something to do while watching 30000 monsters being ripped to pieces.

The game also features a collection screen which is nice for completionists like me as well as 88 achievements that are not to hard to get. Pretty much all achievements can be gained by grinding and simply spending time in the game. Some will require luck for sure. Seeing as the rarest achievement have been unlocked by 8% of the player base I'm not to worried about it being to hard.

The name Bone Zone scares me though. I haven't unlocked this level yet so I need to grind some more to get there.

A perfect No Brain game

This is not a game that I sit down to play like I would Elden Ring or Fortnite. So far, outside my streams, I've only been playing this game on my second monitor while watching football. It's perfect for things like this. The game doesn't need to much of your attention and it can be paused at any moment. Seeing as the weapons attack by themselves and the only thing you really control is the positioning of your character you can even let the game just be for a few minutes and you'll still be fine. At least most of the time.

If anyone wants a simple game that's easy to play and doesn't require much of a brain I really recommend getting this. It's extremely cheap and already one of the best rated games on Steam. That should speak for itself really.

A perfect No Brain game

It really is!! I think that's why I love it so much. This week we've been stuck at home with Covid. The first few days I didn't really do anything,,, then, finally, I just opened Vampire Survivors and mowed down fields of monsters for a couple of hours. Got a few more achievements. Unlocked a couple more areas. My brain was still dead but it felt satisfied. It was great! 😅

This game is perfect for so many situations. I like that achievements aren't that hard to get. I feel like I can sit down for a session and always unlock at least one. That might stop at some point though. It sucks you got Covid. Hope you're doing fine and I hope you recover soon!

A perfect zombie game, I need it. It's amazing the amount of monsters you can see on screen, it's too much sex for my eyesight.

Haha, yeah! I think I had close to 50000 kills in a game yesterday. So satisfying.

The game is awesome, and its a really good one to do streaming. Viewers love it 😊

This game is pretty cool, but I could never play it, I just watch it, but I can't watch for a long time either, my eyes hurt with so much information on the screen, too many enemies, skills and weapons, playing is impossible for me, so sad.

That's a shame. I just love moving down the hordes of enemies. There's something satisfying about watching all those numbers appear.

Yes, yes, it really is very satisfying, for me the most satisfying weapons are the whip, garlic and king bible, especially the whip at maximum level.

sounds real fun and simple, yet I bet much time could be spent.. 😎👍

I've seen people that have spent 100+ hours on this game. I'm currently at 10 hours spent myself.

whoa! full-time job/game.. :P

I confirm, the truth for me is a great game, is what has made me distract many hours when my internet is bad, it is completely worth the price.

there are a lot of visual stimuli on the screen but it seems entertaining, I like your description of the game, maybe I'll give it a try.

The second in-game screenshot looks insane :D That and what you implied that it doesn't require a lot of skills make me want to try it too.

My god, I'd probably end up taking a stroke if I tried playing this game xD

I play this whenever I'm watching a long Youtube video or a movie. Just feels so damn good, doesn't require my full concentration so it's perfect for this.
One of the most pleasant surprise to come out of the indie scene lately.
