Greetings!
It has been a while since I last worked on my vegetable garden because my attention was diverted to our rice farm in the past few weeks. Rice planting season is coming so I need to prepare our rice field for the coming rice planting season. And when I had the chance to get back to work with my vegetable garden I built a bamboo fence and trimmed some banana leaves.
Building the Fence
It is not in my plan to build a fence that will enclose my vegetable garden, but building a fence has become a necessity, so, I built one. It has become a necessity because I need to keep my fast-growing ducks from going astray outside of my garden. I just have to fence all my vegetable crops inside so that they will not be run over.
One of my nieces actually helped me in building the fence. We started by cutting some bamboo on my father's bamboo plantation, then I split them into pieces for building the fence.
Some split bamboos for the fence
Using a saw I cut some bamboo for use as posts then I and my niece dug a knee-deep hole into the ground then I planted the bamboo post.
The bamboos posts of the fence from two different angles
To prevent the bamboo posts from going out of line I used a nylon rope as a guide. I actually do not plan to use a nylon rope, but since we have one on the house, I just used them instead.
After I planted all the posts we started to nail all the bamboo that will make up the fence. As for the distance between the bamboo, I just estimated the distance where my ducks will not be able to pass through.
It actually took us more than two days to complete the fence. Below is what the fence looks like after we finished it.
Trimming Banana Leaves
Prior to building the fence, I perform some banana maintenance of my bananas by cutting old leaves. Just like in building the fence, cutting some old banana leaves is also not part of my plant. But since the winds are very strong the days prior I decided to cut the old leaves to prevent them from falling due to strong winds.
Below is a short video of me while I am cutting old banana leaves.

Below are two photos of the banana leaves that I cut from my bananas (some of my newly planted string beans can be seen from the top of the photos).
A Surprise Germination after so many days of wait
Also, one of the Star Apple that I planted finally germinated after long days of wait. Below is a photo of the Star Apple two days ago.

And below is a photo that I took today, I hope it will grow fast and bear many fruits.

That is all for now guys, see you next time. Wishing you all safety, good health, and abundance.
Wow I must say I’m blown away by the finished product of that bamboo fence, so well built.
And I guess the star apples are shy but I’m sure they’re in safe and caring hands.
Thank you, and yes, I think the star apples are shy, good afternoon!
Haha yes they are. Happy weekend!
Happy weekend (^_^)
That fence looks so legit! I want the same now hahah good job brother! May your harvest be plentiful!
Thank you, this is actually my first time ever building a fence, I just applied what I always saw from my father.
Wow that's an amazing fence - it looks fantastic. I'd love a fence like that here! You're lucky to have bamboo around to build from. Love your garden updates, and I hope the rice fields produce well this year!
Thank you, and yes, I am quite lucky to have some available bamboo that I could build from, Good afternoon and have a nice day ahead.
Seeing gardens like yours makes me want to leave the city and be a farmer ala Stardew Valley instead 😆 One day, I'd like to have my own farm too!
Thank you, it is such s compliment for me in receiving a comment like that, and yes, it is look like Stardew Valley since my garden is just beside our house. Good luck on your future gardening plan. You'll never go wrong in gardening.
Great work on the fence! I hope it helps keep the ducks away from the plants. I hope your star apple continues to grow well. :)
Thank you, and I hope so too that the ducks will keep them away. Greetings from the Philippines@
I really enjoyed this garden journal.
When ever someone can take raw material and fabricate something very useful, I'm all in.
The fence came out great and it sure should keep the ducks in.
Your area is so very different than where I'm from. For me, that's the really cool part.
Peace!
Thank you. I am quite lucky to have bamboos at my disposal. And yes, so very different, and most of all, there are no noise pollution and air pollution, just the sounds of animals and nature.
Your garden is a respite from city life. That is what my husband would love to do retire in the countryside and do gardening/farming.
Thank you. I say that your husband has a great choice when he retires, you can never go wrong with gardening, it is so enjoyable, removes stress, and most of all it can give you your own food.
