Garden Journal in June. |Battling the summer season with several high tides and sharing a vacant garden space for my crops.

Greetings garden lovers,

Another meaningful month to showcase our unique gardens in different parts of the world. In the area where I live my other crops and other farmers' crops who live near me are very challenging because we are having our summer season and was an extremely hot plus in May in the coming months we have consecutive days of having high tides and because of the broken man-made water barriers from the typhoon that hit us last December that never been repaired by the owners until now seawater levels usually reach near the garden that made us suffer.

as you can see all of my sweet potatoes are getting withered.

IMG_20220603_150552.jpg

marigolds are dying too.

A few weeks ago we had three consecutive high tides. At first, I thought it wouldn't reach the land I planned to place with my additional crops but it reached the worse it was because it was three days and no rain came and was very hot then the crops died like my sweet potatoes and water spinach and also some flowering plants like my Marigolds.

Even though that happened, even though I was a little mad at the ploughman for a bit for not returning for a long time to finish the garden. I'm still grateful and lucky because if he come back right away and I planted the crops already, they would probably have all withered and even worse, they would have died.

Although we experienced those problems I always do my best to save my plants and lucky enough just a few days ago I harvested my snow cabbage so I can replace a new batch and after the harvest, I give some to my neighbours and cook some dishes from it.

I also like to share in this garden update that I had shared garden space with a relative. This happened because they have this garden space but they can not take care of all of it because of a lot of things they have to consider first like their livestock and another farm so I ask them if I can occupy it for my old seedling which was about to die and they approve it. So, I immediately weeded it out so my plant will thrive well but unfortunately, as I'm starting developing the area I was told that somebody asks them to use it for a government program and they can't say no so I just stop where I was after I was told and give more than half of the space.

I used bolo and hoe to remove the weeds and it's very easy because it was plough before.

This is what it looks like now. We split it, in the upper part was my garden where I planted eggplants and okras and below is where my neighbours are going to have a government program for gardening.

Now in the garden, my eggplant has progressed, they are growing well and have a lot of new leaves and then my okras just sprouted because I sowed them in the ground just a few days from now maybe about 25% of them germinate. The rest of my vegetable plants are well through my effort of putting time to water them almost every day or else they would all die. The flowering plants are flourishing especially those which love the sun like my roses and my ornamental plants I carefully hide them in shady areas although not all of them are hit resistant and wilted but mostly are still in good condition.

A few flowering plants that flourish in the summer in my garden.

One of my ornamental plants that were inhabited by an insect. Can you spot its amazing house and tell me an idea of what kind of insects lives inside it?

For now, this is the first update I can share with you. Hopefully, this June, even though there will be many trials to go through, we will be able to enjoy many more harvests and if only they could fix the damage so we won't be able to continue suffering from the overflowing seawater that will kill our crops.🙏

Thank you so much @riverflows and to the rest of the @hivegarden community and team for initiating this wonderful contest. Now if they have time I'm inviting you again @discoveringarni and my good friend @millycf1976 to show us how is your garden going.☺

Oh gosh - talk about lucky that the neighbouring farmer didn't mow for you to plant, because as you say the crops woudl have died anyway! You work so hard, so you always have something to show and something growing despite the hardships. YOu've definitely got a good outlook on it all - I guess you have to decide to be positive when so many things are going wrong! That snow cabbage looks amazing and I love your selfie.

Thank you @riverflows , I'm really disappointed but I'm still luckier. Sometimes there are times when we don't succeed in our gardening so you really need to be prepared for the consequences of them but even so, just try and try, just plant and you don't realize that you will reap your success soon.

Hello @luckylaica,
You are "lucky" indeed! Your snow cabbage looks so healthy.
It's amazing that you manage to do this despite all the setbacks and the weather.
Your flowers are spectacular, so bloomingly beautiful:)))
So proud of the work you do!

I just showed off my garden recently, and there is no new update yet. I'm looking forward to seeing more from others:)

Thank you very much, @millycf1976, what you said made my heart so warm. I understand that you only have limited space and you can only plant a few maybe by the next garden journal I'll be happy to see if you can share it here Camille.

You're very welcome Laica:)
Yes, I'm curious to see what my herbs will look like in a month's time or so.
Fingers crossed they'll continue to thrive:)))

Welcome kabayan (^_^)

So sorry to hear of your problems with the sea water. I hope they can get that fixed as I'm sure that's impacting a lot of people!

Your cabbage looks delicious, though! I hope you can get lots more and the rest of your plantings thrive soon.

Thank you @plantstoplanks , I really hope this can be solved as soon as possible so that our problems can be stopped immediately.

I really like cabbage so I tried to plant it for the first time. Luckily it was a success.

Hello, I congratulate you for the beautiful work you do, despite the environmental inconveniences, however your flowering plants are beautiful, of course under your care. I would like that variety of cayenne or hibiscus.

Hi @multifacetas, thank you so much. We have to be positive whatever obstacles we face in our garden journey. I think I have almost 20 varieties of hibiscus how I wish I can give you some.

Love the setting, so different than my area.
The field you worked by hand had to take some time removing all of that vegetation, even if it was ploughed before.
Sea water flooding right up to your garden, that's a bummer and a little scary. I hope who ever is responsible for the barrier, fixes it really soon.

Your flowers are stunning.

Peace!

Thank you very much for your appreciation, this incident is really annoying and sad because in the next few days there will be high tides again that may be able to reach my other crops. I hope it will be fixed asap with the people who are responsible for it.

Thank you for dropping by @thebigsweed have a good day!

Let's keep our fingers crossed and the problem is fixed asap.

Hi Laica, I had no idea the sea reaches your garden when the tide rises. This month had been harsh for the plants with the sun burning hot. It was a blessing in disguise that the ploughman didn't plough the garden as planned. Love snow cabbage and yours look so fresh I can imagine different dishes to cook with them.

Hello Arni, I was also shocked. We live near fish ponds and back then the water only rose in June mostly during the Saint John festival but now it reaches close to us because of the broken barrier during the height of the storm. Luckily for me, I haven't planned yet. Snow cabbage is delicious when freshly pulled, and very crispy when freshly cooked. I just stir-fried some for our dish.

Hey there! Lol I also was depending on the neighbour to plough the land with his tractor, and last year, I had to dig out all the potatoes on my own because he forgot about it haha.
This year, I had a plan, I have him wine 😁 so he would help me!

Very nice effort put in your garden, it shows the love!

Haha, really? I also have a neighbour who is a ploughman who also loves wine whenever you offer him work, especially with liquor he will immediately take it but now he really can't accept any job because he is so busy on their farmland ploughing.

Thanks for your appreciation gardening always make me happy anytime. Have a good day @edprivat 😉.

Maintaining a garden is definitely not as easy as it looks. You water your plants almost everyday, well the results are always worth it so that’s a motivation already.

Those flowers are so pretty just like their owner :)
And it’s too bad the marigolds died, but I suggest you shouldn’t give up on them quite yet, they just might surprise you and sprout again.

Nature has a mind of its own.

Gardening really takes diligence and perseverance to achieve what is hoped for. Anyway thanks for the appreciation I already save some Marigold seeds for my future planting. Thank you for dropping by have a good day! 🙂

Aw that’s great you saved for later, I’d love to see the new marigolds!
A good day to you too 💕

I'll let you know soon, thank you😉.
