Family Picnic At Lake Gardens, Kuala Lumpur

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY11 months ago

Monday, June 5, was the King's Birthday, so it was a Public Holiday throughout Malaysia. It was the last day of the school term break, so my group of friends made plans to have a picnic at the park. We had a group picnic a couple of months ago at Putrajaya's Botanical Garden but this time around, we decided to go to another famous park in the city.

We decided to have our group picnic at Lake Gardens which is located at Kuala Lumpur city center. Lake Gardens (or its new name), Kuala Lumpur Botanical Gardens, was established in 1888 and it was the first public park in the country. It covers 91.6 hectares of several parks and gardens. There is a lot to see and do at Lake Gardens. KL Bird Park, Deer Park, and KL Butterfly Park are located within the huge area. And there are many other parks to discover but since there was not enough time to discover every corner of the park, we picked Sunken Garden as our picnic spot.

This was the first time our family visited the park and I was completely overwhelmed by the sheer size of it and we got lost and couldn't find the rest of the group members. After several phone calls, we finally found their location. However, we decided to take some pictures at the main entrance before venturing inside the huge park.

I took quite a lot of pictures with the group but to protect the privacy of my friends I only share some pictures where their faces are obscure or blurred.

Our picnic spot was right beside a pond. The park was packed with picnic goers. There were many families spreading their mats around but we respected each other space and enjoyed the surrounding in peace.

Our group even had some fun games that helped to strengthen our bond with one another.

This playground is located right in the middle of Sunken Garden. There were so many kids playing and running around including my kids who were having a blast playing with their friends.

Our family photo was taken by a friend. Notice that dinosaur behind us? Yes, this section of the park is also known as the "dinosaur garden".

After having our picnic and games, we decided to explore around. It was a hot day so we headed to a nearby snack shop for some yummy ice cream.

And a "wefie" with my hubby. I really loved the small man-made mini waterfall right behind us. The place was quiet and shady with lots of trees around.

Upon learning there was a Deer Park nearby, the kids begged us to go and have a look at the deer. Of course, we obliged because we were equally curious about it. The Deer Park was located at a secluded corner of the park and that added a sense of adventure to the trip. The signage is written in Malay, "Taman Rusa", which literally means Deer Garden/Park.

After going up and down several slopes and staircases we finally arrived at the deer enclosure! We spent several minutes taking pictures and by the time we exited the deer park it was 12PM sharp. Everyone was tired and it was time to go home. I wish we could explore further but it was a very hot day and I thought we better not stay under the hot afternoon sun and risk getting heat stroke.

And on the way to the car park, I stopped by the National Monument. Yes, the National Monument is located opposite Lake Gardens. However, the place is undergoing renovation so it was closed to the public. But I managed to take some pictures from a distance. While looking at the monument, I feel a sense of pride at the fallen heroes who fought bravely for our freedom. I can't imagine what it was like to live during their time and era. What was it like to have your son, your husband, and your father died in combat to fight for your country's freedom? I have several elderly uncles who fought the enemies during Communist Insurgency in the 1960s. They are in their twilight years now and we must honor their sacrifices while they are still living.

What I like the most about KL is that we still have plenty of greens and parks around the city. Most metropolis is so dense with concrete and hardly any trees around.

Oh, why I missed the Lake Gardens? I've been to the National Monument or Tugu Negara. We passed by here and took some photos.

Oh you've been here? Awesome 😃. The park is opposite of the National Monument. The place is a bit obscure from the main road.

Yes, I just noticed in my old photos that we passed by the garden. Hehe.

What a great park indeed ♥️ A perfect place for family bonding and a great place to unwind. ♥️ I really love all things around the place especially cause it's so green. 💚

Yep, I love parks and greeneries. An excellent place for family outings and the kids get to be outdoors instead of cooped up at home with their gadgets.
