Mindless Self-Indulgence: Sketches & Thoughts | Pages From My Sketchbook Part 5

Hi all...it's time for me to post about some of the sketches I made in the past couple of months. Nothing extraordinary; they are just poetry/thoughts sketches I made like I posted in the past. You can see past posts here:

I've been feeling very stuck in my art for about a year. I've felt like I'm not moving forward or making anything of value, and I can't seem to shake the lingering sense of meaningless (in work). It's hard keeping the momentum when my brain constantly seeks a focal point that isn't there. I am gradually learning to go easy on myself though it doesn't come naturally.

Someone suggested producing ezines of my drawings and creating a collection of narratives. I don't even know what that means, but at this juncture, I am not shying away from possibilities. So, I will keep making these sketches until I am more certain of the direction I need to take.

The Swindler

So here is the first sketch, the Swindler. Who is this swindler, the "desolate character". Well, nobody I knew off personally, but I am sure there are plenty of them out there. Those sleazy men wormed their ways into the hearts and eventually the homes of gullible women. They come with various motives and often to rip off their unsuspecting victims and leave them with heartbreaks and sufferings.

The Couple

Well, don't love have the knack of creeping in at the most unlikely moments? I mean, people tend to fall in love with someone who is the total opposite of them. We may say we loathe someone who is this or that but lo and behold, we may end up marrying that person.

The Wife Was Waiting

I am very fond of this drawing. One of my favorites. It depicts a man who is on the cusp of a new responsibility. The drawing speaks for itself; there is no need to elaborate.

The Boxer

This drawing was inspired by the Korean actor, Jang Hyuk 😘😉, one of my favorites celebrities (mind you, I don't have a lot of favorites). Jang Hyuk is one of Korea's top-rated actors and for a very good reason - passionate, consistent, and hard working. His latest movie, the Killer was released worldwide recently and I went to watch it! Maybe I should write a review about the movie 🤔

Conversational Narcissist

We all know someone who always dominates conversations. There's a term for it - conversational narcissist.

Often subtle and unconscious, it's the desire to take over a conversation, to do most of the talking, and to turn the focus of the exchange to yourself. ~ Charles Derber

A conversational narcissist is super annoying so please don't be one.
