It takes more than a downpour to keep us from helping the temple animals

Thailand is a tropical country and even though right now is the time of year where it tends to be dryer than other times, we do still end up with huge downpours every now and then. It takes more than a bunch of water to keep us from helping our friends at the Tiger Cave Temple in Krabi though.

The dogs are a bit more difficult to find during these times and it is a little disappointing to me that I don't get my usual rush of the dogs to come and greet me when I arrive. As I have mentioned in the past the doggos here know the sound of our car's engine and will normally come out to greet me by the dozens. Today, I had to go and find them to distribute the treats.

The fur buddies who were bold enough to show their cute faces were rewarded with fried chicken this time around because I have a friend in the neighborhood who always buys way too much of the stuff. He says it is an accident but I really think it is because he likes to contribute to feeding the hungry pups. I am grateful for this.

I do think that this particular homeless dog could actually stand to lose a few pounds to be honest though :)

The Tiger Cave Temple is a very popular tourist location in Krabi, but today there were very few people around and those that were there were soaked to the bone. It's so hot right now in Krabi that I don't think too many of them were going to be complaining about it though. I find that once you are totally soaked it is actually preferable to being dry and very hot.

I also took some time to feed some of the monkeys that call this place home and before we go to crazy with this I want to tell people that I do NOT advise handing food to monkeys. I do it because of the fact that I have been coming here for years and know which monkeys are aggressive and which ones aren't. It is generally a bad idea to try to hand food to monkeys because they lose their patience with you and will swarm you to take the food that you have rather than wait for you to give it to them. This can result in you getting scratched and bitten in the process so just don't do it.

Even though I have a lot of experience with dealing with the monkeys here, I still hand them food with some level of fear and that is why both of these pics are out of focus.

Although I didn't see many of the dogs because of the downpour, I did leave a bunch of snacks with the monks and also checked in to make sure that they had enough dog food for the upcoming week. I will return here the same time next week and do it all over again! The Tiger Cave Temple is one of our pet projects and we have experienced some great levels of success at keeping the dogs and cats healthy as well as reducing the levels of overpopulation through our sterilization program. We are hopeful that we can use this information to convince other parts of the country to engage in a similar program because it is a nation-wide problem.

We've been having crazy storms on and off lately too, this is quite unusual for this time of year when it is supposed to be dry.

Well i've always said that the "seasons" here in Thailand are more of a guideline than a rule. For us, being right next to the sea and all, we can have a huge amount of rain any time of year and it comes out of nowhere sometimes.

People get fooled by monkeys as they can be very aggressive even though they may look cute and innocent. I am sure the weather does hamper your job as like you say the dogs are ticked away out of the rain somewhere.

the larger problem is the amount of insects that end up getting on them when they all huddle together in the same spot under the shelters. This isn't a huge problem at Tiger Cave because we treat all of the dogs there for this sort of thing, but in other places and especially the places we don't monitor yet, it is a huge problem.
