The mall

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY11 months ago

Recently, I went to a local mall here in Miri. This mall has been empty even before Covid struck years ago but at the moment, there are even less shops that are open.

Some of the malls are designed to fail.

Management I guess doesn't really do a good job of attracting tenants. It's like a ripple effect that loops and loops. The overall visitors to the mall drops reducing business which then reduces visitors. There are some older malls in the city that are doing a lot better than this.

A happy poster

There is still a sports shop here selling sports attires and sneakers. There used to be two. There is a total of four floors. Third floor is empty. Forth floor, sports venue.

It's sad, isn't it to look at this. There are some shops left on this floor but not many. The next time I visit, I I guess, it would even become less.

Huge but empty. There is one mall in the city that is similar to this. One thing I noticed is that the management of a mall is pretty important and crucial. If they don't do a good job, businesses are going to move out.

Mr DIY

MR DIY is one of the most popular stores here in Malaysia. They sell everything that is needed at home. They sell a lot of useful stuff. Everyone who goes into this store is going to definitely get something from here.

The elevators

They are not working anymore. A lot of walking. I guess to save maintenance cost as well as electricity. That is going to hurt. Consumers need to walk up escalators.

The book shop

This is one of the book shops that still survives. I usually come here to get some books.

Not many people here buying books.

After getting some books, It was time for me to explore the other sections.

Rows of shops have shut down

There are not many businesses that open here anymore.

The upper floors are completely empty. Not a single business left.

I would definitely not want to come here at night. Even during the day while I walk around here, It felt as though someone was watching. Maybe there is, just that I can't see them.

Would you walk here at night. Trends are changing and times are too. Online businesses haven destroyed a lot of these brick and mortar stores. I wonder at times, when I visit this mall,

How long is this place going to last?
