I have always had a hard time saying the name Pennsylvania without laughing evil-vampire-like after it. "Pennsylvania, ah-ah-ah."
Anyway, I was recently in Pennsylvania for a short vacation. On the drive I came across this pull out on the highway and thought it was pretty damn spectacular. Mountainous valleys with trees for as far as the eye could see. Absolutely amazing. This picture is my #monomad entry.
These next two pictures are in the nearest town to where we were staying (which really was in the middle of nowhere). It was a 25 minute drive to Galeton, which was the nearest town.
Berger Lake sits in the middle of Galeton. This first is the view facing south.
Here is the view facing north.
Galeton is not a big town by any stretch; Wikipedia lists it as having about 1,100 people, but it was certainly quaint. If I could spend some more time in the nearby mountains, I certainly would.

Beautiful place, I've always wanted to explore PA more, but never found time. I grew up in Indiana, Amish country. I'd always heard the other more strict sect of Amish are rooted in PA, but never knew what part of the state they're in.
I'd like to do an apple butter comparison one day.
There is a heavy Amish population in Lancaster County, PA, which is about 30 minutes from New Castle County (where I live). It's a really beautiful place, too. The Amish there are, by necessity, becoming more open and somewhat less strict, at least in regards to their interactions with the outside population. They are beginning to use refrigeration and some gas powered utilities (primarily for food storage) in order to help sell.
Thank you!
Thanks! Unfortunately I can only take credit for the picture, not the lake itself. 😃
