This past October 13th Apple made a presentation showing the long-awaited iPhone 12 in addition to the HomePod Mini. In my opinion, a little bit lazy about technological innovations, I leave you here a video summary that the company made.

Only the Pro and Pro Max models have the LiDAR scanner, plus HDR video recording with Dolby Vision at 60 frames per second. The economic models have the same video format but only at 30 frames per second.

The other big news is that all iPhone 12 come without a charger, only the phone, Lightning to USB-C cable and papers are included in the box. Apple justifies the elimination of the charger as an environmental measure, to reduce pollution.

To take advantage of fast charging, a 20W USB-C charger is required. It is true that since the iPhone 8 all bring USB-C charger but are only 5W chargers, so the charge will be very slow, you can charge anyway but it is not ideal.

Now if you do not come from a recent iPhone is more complicated to have a USB-C charger, being even more complicated that is 20W. Which means that all these cases will have to buy a charger, being an extra package with its respective impact on the environment.

Note also that the previous models (Xr, 11 and SE) still sold by Apple from now on also inherit this new box without charger, but maintaining the same prices they had before with the charger. Needless to say, future iPhone models will maintain this philosophy.

For all the above reasons I think Apple is using the excuse of the environment to get more profit, eliminating products from the box and at the same time giving you the opportunity to charge us extra for parts that were previously part of the package.

I have no doubt that the measure benefits the environment, but in the end it is the user who pays for these measures, since the removal of the charger in previous models did not represent a discount on the price. We are the ones who will continue to pay the same and even more for receiving less.
