Casi todos los residuos que usamos en nuestra cocina pueden ser reutilizados en nuestro jardín o huerto. Por ejemplo, las cáscaras de huevo tienen muchísimos usos de los cuales les hablaré en otras publicaciones. En este post le mostraré unos semilleros de ají realizados con ellas. 😍
Las primeras fases de desarrollo de una planta y toda la parte de germinación en sí son delicadas cuando lo hacemos directamente en el suelo de nuestro huerto, jardín o matero. Recientemente me pasó con unas semillas de albahaca que me obsequiaron, eran muchas y no germinó ninguna. 😐
En estos casos es que la implementación del uso de un semillero puede ser de gran ayuda para que la plantita se desarrolle en mejores condiciones hasta que la veamos con posibilidades y la fortaleza para ser trasplantadas a nuestros huertos.

Semilleros con cáscaras de huevos / Egg-shell seedlings
Las cáscaras de huevo tienen diversos usos en la tierra, está compuesta mayormente de carbonato de calcio que es un nutriente esencial para el proceso celular de las plantas.
Al usarlas como semillero, no sólo nos funcionan hasta que germinen nuestras plantitas, sino que al ser las cáscaras biodegradables, si deseamos las podemos plantar directamente en nuestras macetas.
Lo primero que tenemos que saber antes de darle cualquier uso a las cáscaras en nuestro jardín, es que las cáscaras pueden ser un foco de bacterias para nuestras plantas, por lo que antes de usarse deben enjuagarse bien con agua hirviendo.
Eggshells have various uses in the soil, it is composed mostly of calcium carbonate which is an essential nutrient for the cellular process of plants.
By using them as a seedbed, not only do they work for us until our plants germinate, but since the shells are biodegradable, if we wish we can plant them directly in our pots.
The first thing we need to know before giving any use to the shells in our garden, is that the shells can be a focus of bacteria for our plants, so before using they should be rinsed well with boiling water.
Haciendo nuestro semilleros / Making our seedlings 😄
Vamos a necesitar:
✔ Las cáscaras de los huevos del desayuno (Las cuales romperemos en la parte de arriba como si le quitáramos una tapita)
✔ Las semillas que germinaremos
✔ Tierra o sustrato
✔ Un pequeño punzón
✔ Agua
We're going to need:
✔ The eggshells from the breakfast (which we will break at the top as if we were taking off a lid)
✔ The seeds we will germinate
✔ Soil or substrate
✔ A small punch
✔ Water
El proceso es bastante sencillo. Lo primero que haremos es dejar unos nuestra cáscara en agua caliente, una vez secas, le haremos uno o varios hoyitos en la parte de abajo a manera de drenaje, esto es muy importante.

Una vez tengamos perforada nuestra cáscara para el drenaje, agregamos las semillas y la tierra. Desde mi experiencia es indiferente el orden de agregarlos. Luego humedecemos con un spray o un poco de agua sin saturar.
Y... ¡Listo! Las dejamos con riego intermitente dependiendo de la cantidad de luz que les llegue y del sustrato. En mi caso vivo en apartamento, clima tropical sin ser excesivamente caluroso, les llega poco sol. Las puse al lado de una ventana en el balcón.
Once we have perforated our shell for drainage, we add the seeds and soil. From my experience it is indifferent the order of adding them. Then we moisten them with a spray or a little unsaturated water.
And that's it! We leave them with intermittent watering depending on the amount of light that reaches them and the substrate. In my case I live in an apartment, tropical climate without being excessively hot, they get little sun. I put them next to a window on the balcony.

La concentración del sabor de los ajíes es sensible al clima, en climas soleados este se potencia y en climas fríos o húmedos se atenúa, igual en caso de ser picantes. Siempre recomiendan ubicar las plantas de ají en un sitio en donde les llegue mucha luz solar.
