Bring me back to those days

in GEMS4 years ago

These last few days, even weeks have been tough on me. It started with my back injury last month. I couldn’t sleep and didn’t feel well for days. I’ve started my therapy not that long after it happened and I’m doing better now but there are still days when I would rather stay in bed as it hurts so much. But then I do some easy yoga flow and feel much better again. I try to stay positive and believe that I will be fit within a few weeks again.

I’ve been closely following the Covid-19 situation in Slovakia as I haven’t been there for the last 6 months. I haven’t been away from Slovakia for such a long time in at least 10 years. I wouldn’t mind it that much if it wouldn’t be for my grandma who is not well. Finally, Slovakia has opened its borders a couple of weeks ago and we planned our holidays in the middle of July.

A few days ago, my mom called me and told me that she is not sure if my grandma will make it by then. Well, ‘great’ news. I’ve been worried sick as I can’t change the vacation days anymore. I pray every day that she is still there when we come. And also that there are not that many new infections as the government announced that if the numbers would grow, they would close the borders again as we wouldn't be able to go because my husband doesn't have either Slovak passport or residency in the country.

Lastly, my mom’s dog ate something during their walk and got so sick that even the vet wasn’t sure if he will make it or not. My mom doesn’t know what it was as it all happened so fast. He was vomiting every time he ate or drank something for 3 days. He couldn’t sleep and was so tired that he wasn’t even able to walk up a couple of stairs. Luckily, he is better today and could finally eat something and keep it inside as well.

In situations like this I would normally go to the mountains to organize my thoughts and recharge my batteries. But since my husband is working on his school assignment, we don’t have time to go there. And the only thing that I can do about it is go through my photos and use my imagination to feel like I was there right now (Or do many house chores to clear my mind but I honestly prefer going through the photos 🙂)

Today, I’d like to take you with me on a tour through my photos…

This is one of the first places that I visited in the Alps many years ago. Flumserberg is not far away from our home and easily accessible, and therefore we go back there with most of our visitors. There are easy hiking trails, educational routes for kids, and an adventure park as well as more difficult trails for experienced hikers. It’s easy to fall in love with this place. However, we usually avoid it in winter as it’s a popular skiing resort and at that time there is not much to do for hikers. We don’t ski even though we live in Switzerland. This seems to be challenging to grasp for some people…

If you visit Flumserberg there is a great chance that you will come across some cows or horses. They are peaceful but I do keep my distance as all of the cows have horns and I can’t recognize the bulls as they all look the same to me. But I like to observe them until they start moving in my direction which happens almost every time as cows are very curious.

One time, my husband came close to a cow to take a picture with it. The cow was cheeky and licked half of his face when he was trying to position himself for the photo. There were tears running down my cheeks from laughing. It was one of the funniest moments in our relationship for me (not that sure about him but I think he would mention the moment when we were walking down the hill and I slipped on the wet grass and fell right on my face. He didn’t even try to catch me!)

I have heard about Mount Titlis many times before but only managed to visit it last year. It’s a place that should be on your bucket list when you decide to visit Switzerland, or so they say. It’s a very touristic mountain and the cable cars are so crowded that you feel like you were not even standing on the floor but kind of floating and trying to catch your breath. But it is worth it.

Once you’re finally up the mountain you will love it. The views are fantastic! There is also a suspension bridge which is a lot of fun until someone decides to jump up and down and the bridge starts to rock from one side to another.

My favorite part was the Glacier cave. Once you enter the cave you find yourself in a colored ice tunnel. There is a railing on one side as the floor is made of ice too. It’s cold inside, so take your jacket when you plan to visit in summer.

Pizalun is a mountain that is mainly visited by locals. It is one of the smallest mountains in the canton of Graubünden and not particularly spectacular but there is a large stone formation on its top which makes this place special. The 7 km long trail with an elevation gain of less than 500 meters is a perfect place for lazier Sunday morning.

The mountain is overlooking the Chur Rhine valley, Sargans region, the mountains of the Rätikon, the Pizol group, the Calanda massif and the Churfirsten-Alvier. It offers spectacular views of the region.

And let’s finish today with these cows that didn’t pay the slightest attention to me. It looks like they were whispering and I can imagine that they were coming up with a plan how to get rid of me and have their peace again 😊

After looking at those photos and reviving the situations all I can say is that I feel better. I might do it more often 😊

Thank you for reading!

Cheers!

I wish you well with your back recovery! Actually scrolling through photos was the best choice, I could not have enjoyed you doing chores, but I can enjoy this. Lovely photos! The mountain is great😍

Thank you, Mary! Hahaha, I think so too! Better to sit on the sofa and write a post than vacuum clean or doing the dishes.. but to be honest - I did it all today anyway ;)

Oh bravo! You're a tough cookie, in the good way💪🍪😂

Hahaha, thank you! I'll take it as a compliment then ;)

Oh dear Martina, things are not going well for you. Only a few more weeks till mid July, hopefully your grandma will stay strong till you get home.

Have you tried heat pads for your back? It helps to ease my pain when I have back ache which fortunately isn't that often now.

Take care

Thank you for your kind words, Pauline. I hope so too. It's so difficult for me.. on one hand I don't want her to suffer anymore but on the other hand I want to see her again. It's not in my hands now and I will have to accept whatever will happen..

My therapist told me that it's not really for me as my trigger points are deep in the muscles. He tried dry needling last time and it seems to be working. I feel better and also my husband keeps pressing the points which brings tears in my eyes but next day I usually feel better.. I think it's all the stress as well...

I hope, you're doing well! Take care!

Are the dry needles acupuncture? Personally I've never tried it but I know it works very well for lots of health issues. Good to hear it's helping you.

Take care, and you will be seeing your grandma very soon!

It's similar but from what I understand acupuncture would offer short term relief while dry needling is seeking long term improvement of your muscles situation. The one thing that I know certainly is that it hurts like hell even two days after the procedure. But now it's much better.

Thank you, Pauline! I hope so too!

Hi Martina so sorry to hear that life isnt that great at the moment , hope that your back will be well soon and that the dog will be ok, we have a dog thats sick and in covid its difficult

Hi Britt, hope you're doing well! Thank you for stopping by...

I hope so too! He is doing better now and my mom told me that he hasn't even vomited today which is a great sign.

Yeah, my back bothers me a lot but my therapist is great and I've tried dry needling for the first time which seems to be helping me a lot so fingers crossed :)

Those mountains invite to jump and fly like a bird free free free..!

Exactly! If we just could fly...

YAY a post and update. Martina, I have missed you. Now I see why. I hope you body feels better soon. The heart, that is going to take more time. I have followed you long enough how much you love your grandma and how much you love going to Slovakia to see her. Much love and comfort to you. Good choice on giving us a tour of the beautiful country you are living in now. I would love to see Pizalun! The cute whispering cows made me smile, even when I am feeling for you. Thanks for sharing and I hope you feel the friendship of those of us who have connected with you over the years on this platform.

I have missed you too, you know it. You are so kind and you always know what you say. Of course, I feel the friendship here. We've been on this journey together...

I'm glad that you like it and I hope that soon you'll be able to come over here :)

I'm sad to hear you have to experience all this pain both phisical and emotional right now, hope everybody will get well soon and you’ll have a happy family reunion in Slovakia with Maxo running around. Best wishes!

Thank you for your support and kind words, Dan. I hope so too. It's just one and a half weeks to go :)
