It is not the first time that I visit Sintra, this small city that is located in the center of Lisbon is very famous because it has 3 of the best tourist sites in Portugal, the Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira and the Moorish Castle, but of course I warn you that they are not cheap for 2 people to visit the 3 places are about 60 euros, the bad thing about Sintra is how it is in the center of Lisbon it ends up being very expensive, but it is worth visiting, do you complete everything in one day? no!!! To see the 3 sites in detail, I recommend 3 days because they are very large and have a lot of historical details!🚙🌍🚩

If you do not have your own vehicle, do not worry, there are many transports that go up the Sintra mountains, you can also rent a small private tourism vehicle that generally includes a small tour, you would pay between 30-60 euros for the entire tour! Indifferently you will do quite a few kilometers walking to move from one place to another you can easily do about 5km but do not worry the landscape that the Sintra mountain range offers you is magnificent you have a great view of the small town of Sintra! a varied vegetation with many plant species!

In 1839 the King of Portugal Fernando II carried out a campaign of restoration and construction of works of structure with inspiration (romantic), his plan led to the construction of many towers like the one in the photo that have a medieval appearance, Don Fernando did not want that the era of the castle was forgotten in the history of Portugal!🤴👸

I was very impressed because the castle is in one of the highest points of Lisbon, we can see even the Atlantic Ocean, as always the kings always thought of everything before ordering things to be built... And this castle can anticipate the enemy several days in advance! and that was the purpose of building it so high! It would be very difficult to invade or destroy it because it is fused with the mountain and a small dense forest, the enemy troops only had one access and it was very well protected!🤯🧠

Reading a little the descriptions of the castle we find some walls that are far from the main castle, this has a meaning! the purpose of a second line of walls was meant that people lived in the surroundings and protection should be given to the town, animals, crops! I mean this castle not only had military purposes!👩👧👩‍🦰🚩🧭

At first glance they look like caves but they are not! these huge holes are silos! Here different types of food were stored from many varieties of cereals to legumes, this practice does not date from the age of the castles, it is very old... We refer to pre-history, even so hundreds of years later the Muslims when they invaded Portugal kept these "silos" running!😮😮

Don Fernando destroyed many Christian artifacts and tombs when he carried out the works in the 18th century, it is also believed that many Muslim bones were unearthed since there was a "cemetery" around the castle, so what the King did was create this tomb in which buried all the human remains that were found and made an engraving in the stone to honor the dead!😮😮

When the excavations were carried out, it was determined that the Muslim town was sheltered in the Sintra mountains and as evidence it was possible to find a necropolis with small Arab tombs and bones, as well as silos and an oven, in the year 1147 Henrique destroyed the town As a sign of victory, among the discoveries it is noted that more than one person was buried in a well, which is believed to be a family tomb! as well as a jar from the 5th century BC!😮😮

As I mentioned before, between 1834-1853, when King Ferdinand II lived in Sintra, he made some investments in the castle, creating a romantic and medieval architecture. Later, in the 50s and 60s, when the monarchy was already extinct in Portugal, the government took this beautiful castle and performs renovations and restorations!👨‍🏫👨‍🎓🤑
