Continuando con este fascinante viaje que realice hace algunos años, nos vamos ahora hasta islas mujeres.

Con este hermoso paseo dimos fin a 7 días por el Caribe mexicano de la Riviera Maya.

Continuing with this fascinating journey I made some years ago, we are now going to Islas Mujeres.

With this beautiful trip we ended 7 days in the Mexican Caribbean of the Riviera Maya.

Esta isla fue descubierta en el año 1517, cuando durante una expedición Francisco Hernández de Córdoba dio con en ella, durante la época prehispánica la isla estaba consagrada para Ixchel, quien era la diosa maya que representaba a la luna, la fertilidad y el amor.

Teníamos reserva para visitar Islas Mujeres ubicada a 13 Km de las costas de Cancun. Para ello tomamos un ferry en el embarcadero hasta el puerto de Benito Juarez.

We had a reservation to visit Islas Mujeres located 13 km off the coast of Cancun. We took a ferry from the pier to the port of Benito Juarez.

A nuestra llegada al muelle nos recibieron delfines, nunca los había visto tan de cerca y me conmoví muchísimo, parecían sonreír. Por medidas de seguridad no se les debe arrojar comida aunque te dan la opción de hacer nados y fotografías, el costo era un poco elevado y sinceramente prefiero observarlos en su hábitat natural sin intervenir directamente, a pesar de que están en el mar están rodeados por una malla que actúa a modo de cerco, lo que les impide el nado libre a mar abierto.

When we arrived at the dock we were welcomed by dolphins, I had never seen them so close and I was very moved, they seemed to be smiling. For security measures you should not throw food at them even though they give you the option to swim and take pictures, the cost was a bit high and I sincerely prefer to observe them in their natural habitat without intervening directly, even though they are in the sea they are surrounded by a mesh that acts as a fence, which prevents them from swimming freely in the open sea

Ya en tierra firme nos indican las actividades que teníamos disponible con el paquete que adquirimos, entre las cuales se encontraban:

• Nado con tiburones y mantarrayas
• Paseo en bicicleta hasta la tortugranja
• Nado en mar abierto entre los arrecifes de coral
• Visita al museo subacuático de arte
• Comer😊

De las 5 actividades lo único que no hicimos fue el paseo al museo subacuático de arte, pero fue una actividad que quisimos dejar con la esperanza de una próxima visita.

Lo primero que hicimos fue visitar la tortugranja en bicicleta, es un pequeño recinto donde hay estanques de tortugas y acuarios con diferentes peces y especies marinas como la cucaracha de mar, principalmente lo que hacen en el lugar es proteger a 3 especies de tortugas marinas. El costo de la entrada son 3$ en caso de que vayas por libre.

Already on the mainland they indicate the activities that we had available with the package we acquired, among which were

• Swimming with sharks and manta rays
• Bike ride to the turtle farm
• Swimming in the open sea among the coral reefs
• Visit to the underwater art museum
• Eat 😊

Of the 5 activities, the only one we did not do was the tour to the underwater art museum, but it was an activity we wanted to leave with the hope of a future visit.

The first thing we did was to visit the turtle farm by bike, it is a small enclosure where there are turtle ponds and aquariums with different fish and marine species like the sea cockroach, mainly what they do in the place is to protect 3 species of sea turtles. The entrance fee is 3$ in case you go by yourself.

Luego de la tortugranja regresamos al muelle para trasladarnos en un bote a unos cuantos kilómetros en mar abierto y nadar entre los arrecifes de coral, de obsequio nos regalaron el kit de snorkel algo que me pareció fantástico.

After the turtle farm we returned to the dock to go on a boat a few miles out to sea and swim among the coral reefs. As a gift we were given a snorkeling kit, which I thought was fantastic.

Jamás había tenido la oportunidad de nadar en mar abierto y es una experiencia muy bonita, observamos peces de muchos colores, caballitos de mar y estábamos muy cerca a lo que llaman coral de fuego, nos advirtieron no acercarnos puesto que desprende entre las rocas una sustancia que al contacto con la piel te hace arder como una quemadura, y pues adivinen, estaba bien alejada, como a 5 metros y aún así llegó hasta mí la dichosa sustancia, sentí como la rozadura de un agua mala.

A pesar de dolor continué nadando entre aquel mar, nada podía parar esta experiencia, debía hacerlo y no me arrepiento porque nunca se sabe si se repite o no.

I had never had the opportunity to swim in the open sea and it is a very beautiful experience, we observed fish of many colors, sea horses and we were very close to what they call fire coral, they warned us not to approach since it gives off a substance between the rocks that when in contact with the skin makes you burn like a burn, and then guess what, it was well away, about 5 meters and even so the happy substance came to me, I felt like the graze of a bad water.

In spite of the pain I continued swimming in that sea, nothing could stop this experience, I had to do it and I don't regret it because you never know if it will be repeated or not.

Ya de regreso a la Isla nos esperaba el nado con tiburones y mantarrayas, les juro que no quería, no por miedo, soy de las que piensa que esas especies si no están en peligro de extinción deberían estar libres en el mar, pero vamos, estaba dentro del paquete y había que darle.

Lo cierto es que andan sueltos en una gran extensión de mar, lo único que nos separaba era una malla muy gruesa y de un material especial por si a los tiburoncitos les da por querernos comer, las mantarrayas si estaban sueltas y me pasaban por los pies, tristemente les quitan su aguijón para que no hagan daño.

En fin, fue una estupenda experiencia pero prefiero que estén libre.

También había focas.

On our way back to the island we were expected to swim with sharks and manta rays, I swear I didn't want to, not out of fear, I'm one of those who thinks that if these species are not in danger of extinction they should be free in the sea, but come on, it was inside the package and we had to give it to them.

The truth is that they are loose in a large expanse of sea, the only thing that separated us was a very thick mesh and a special material in case the little sharks want to eat, the stingrays if they were loose and passed by my feet, sadly take away their sting so they do not hurt.

Anyway, it was a great experience but I prefer them to be free.

There were also seals.

Con tanta actividad había que alimentarnos, estábamos agotados pero tan felices de haber podido vivir todas estas lindas experiencias en la Isla, un lugar magníficamente conservado. Luego de comer nos llevaron de regreso al puerto y de allí nos recogeria el bus que nos trasladaria de nuevo hasta nuestro hotel.

With so much activity we had to feed ourselves, we were exhausted but so happy to have been able to live all these beautiful experiences on the Island, a magnificently preserved place. After lunch we were taken back to the port and from there we would be picked up by the bus that would take us back to our hotel.

Era nuestra ultima noche en la ciudad de Cancun, por la noche disfrutamos de un espectáculo de despedida que obsequio el hotel a todos los huéspedes, lo disfrutamos un montón y así cerramos por esa noche a altas horas de la madrugada lo que fue uno de nuestras mejores vacaciones.

It was our last night in the city of Cancun, at night we enjoyed a farewell show that gave the hotel to all the guests, we enjoyed it a lot and so we closed for that night late at night which was one of our best vacations.

De Cancun solo puedo decir cosas buenas, una ciudad increíble que ha sabido ganarse el corazón de quienes la visitan, tan cálida que la sientes tu hogar y tan espectacular que parece un sueño. Es una muestra de que nuestros países latinoamericanos están pregnados de una belleza y cultura rica e inigualable.

Espero regresar pronto a sus cálidas aguas y seguir disfrutando de sus maravillas.

I can only say good things about Cancun, an incredible city that has managed to win the hearts of those who visit it, so warm that it feels like home and so spectacular that it seems like a dream. It shows that our Latin American countries are pregnant with a rich and unparalleled beauty and culture.

I hope to return soon to its warm waters and continue enjoying its wonders.
