A Garden of Surprises, Between Cacao Beans (Toddy) and Carica Papaya.

Hello Dear Hivers

We have in our house a small garden of 30 square meters, in this reduced piece of land, only had planted plants of decorative uses, typical of the gardens of the zone where I live.

¡This garden would soon give me pleasant surprises¡

I also have at my disposal a 100-hectare plot of land suitable for planting, located on the outskirts of the city, exactly two hours' drive from my home.

My dreams of planting in these lands were interrupted in March of this year due to the frequent problems of scarcity of gasoline and vehicle parts that my country faces. But most of all, because of this terrible Covid-19 Virus Pandemic that is plaguing the whole world.

Our little garden surprised me for the first time, when unexpectedly, a small plant of Carica Papaya sprouted in it. Perhaps it was one of the family who threw or dropped a seed from this plant on the garden without realizing it, or perhaps it was chance that made it happen.

I followed the growth of that tiny Carica Papaya plant closely, even with a lot of skepticism, because I didn't have much confidence in the quality of the soil in my garden. That's when it all started. To my surprise, the underrated plant began to bear fruit, and not just any fruit.

The papaya plant gave us 26 fruits very sweet as honey, and of an exquisite flavor.

That experience revived my sowing spirit again, and that indescribable feeling we feel when we see the plants grow, until you give us their delicious fruits

It was great to be wrong. The seeds of that wonderful and miraculous plant gave me another pleasant surprise, and a great new blessing.

I made an effort to improve the quality of the soil in my garden, mixing its soil with the soil from the other plot, which I have already mentioned, and proceeded to plant.

Put six papaya seeds together, in each hole, like when we sowed corn. I guess you've already noticed, I'm not a professional farmer. Well, it turns out that all the seeds sown germinated and almost 100 little Carica Papaya plants were born.

I had to transplant and distribute all the papaya plants in that small space.
I also took the opportunity to give away some seedlings to my friends, however, I still need space for the remaining seedlings.

Definitely, the soil of my small garden, is not only special for the planting of Papaya plants, but also, to sow other species of plants.

On a trip I made to a neighboring city, before the pandemic started, the mother of a friend of mine gave me several pods containing the seeds of the Cacao Bean (Toddy) plant, perhaps you know them. These seeds after a simple process, can give us a delicious chocolate drink.

With the excitement of the success obtained with the Papaya plants, I remembered that I had somewhere, the seeds of the toddy plant. I searched all over the house, and in the end I only managed to find one single seed hidden in the bag I used on that trip.

I sowed that seed, and again the soil in my little garden surprised me. The seed germinated and gave way to a small plant that began to grow at a dizzying speed. I followed it daily, I think it was growing two centimeters a day.

One morning, the Toddy Cocoa Bean plant was adorned with a beautiful purple and white flower. After several days I couldn't believe it! from that flower came a beautiful little pod of Toddy, to which I also, have watched his growth, day by day, like when a child watches his new toy.

All this has motivated me to keep on sowing. I look for a small free space in the soil of my little garden and there I plant a medicinal plant or fruit tree. These days a friend brought me a small spinach plant, and I planted it too.

This small piece of land has given me many satisfactions and will most likely continue to bless me with many more surprises.

The most important and valuable thing, for me, about these humble experiences, is that they have kept my spirit of love for the earth awake. A passion I have carried in my heart since I was a child.

And besides, the moments that he dedicated, at present to our small big garden, have helped me to bear with patience, all this time of quarantine that I fulfill staying in our house.

I admire the work you all do on your lands and farms, dear friends of
Agricultural Mindset
.

It is gratifying to observe how much love you put into your sowing and raising of animals, so that you can later obtain beautiful fruit and specimens.

There is nothing compared to being able to eat a fruit or a specimen, harvested or raised with love and care.

I hope to continue sharing my experiences with all of you. I wish you all good health, and please take care of yourselves.
