Decluttering & Remembering

Spent a whole week decluttering
Rummaging, sorting, throwing, labelling
Found a lot of stuff long forgotten
Had too much fun reminiscing, meandering

The time I spent a week in London
To cover the Backstreet Boys at Wembley Stadium
Did not get that promised one to one interview
Just a mingle session but guess that was still cool

Then I dug out my 30-year-old pageant sash
Old with brown spots, it was time to hit the thrash
But the fam said wait, let’s not do that yet
“Let’s take some pics first!” but now too dirty for that

But it is the books that I had the hardest time with
Childhood dreams of one wall with shelves to fit
Books of all kinds of genres, shapes and sizes
Stories to fill every whim, dream, fantasy, desire
I packed most of them and asked around for takers
But nobody cared and so I went on to donate them
To Bukuhub where they encourage reading and book swaps
The plan was to bring none home but I caved in, and that’s that

So now I have 7 books to read
Giving myself a week for each
Perfect People by Peter James I’ll begin with
If you think book review coming up? Indeed!!

I appreciate your time & being part of my story 💗

Nice! A week to declutter? No wonder we missed you at the Inkwell Flash Fiction Contest. Was so looking forward to reading one of your fantastic stories. 😁

And you return with seven books! Couldn't resist, eh? Looking forward to the book reviews. 😊

Yes!! I couldn't help it! I got excited haha

Yes, I totally missed the flash fiction - gahhhh

Thank you Fambalam ;D

Decluttering? Huh, guess I am too old for that now 😁 so all I did in the last 6 months, donated 35 tees, 8 pairs of trousers, and 3 jackets, and 4 pairs of shoes to a nearby orphanage. I didn't do it to make way for new ones but to dispose of all I don't need anymore. Nice nails design which distracted me so much I had to watch the video thrice and still left me guessing :)

hahaha - I think we are about the same age ;p

I am decluttering with the intention not to add on but my youngest is 13, so there may be a few more of these decluttering sprees before I am done.

I love these nails too, they are clipped on and variations of these are used by traditional dancers.
Thought why not, since I talk with my hands so much, it could be a feature, glad you found it entertaining... though distracting... but hey, I got an extra view from you hahahaha

I remember writing a post about nail designs, I really love dancers with such nail designs and the way they move their hands (the South Asian tradition)... you know what I mean. Don't talk about age, please, that is even more distracting. Keep decluttering, that's a lot of fun 😅

hahahaha

I have done most
All my printed photographs pre-digital
And the digital stuff - this is the one I am dreading most

Hmmmm, clever, I guess I am too old 😁

When I moved to this new house, I only brought with me necessities, after decluttering the old house.
I put in storage what I thought I would still need. Do I need them?
Now books... books are another matter!

I watched this video about this Minimalist some time back. Can't remember her name now.
But this is what she did too.
They had bought a house in the suburbs and while they were renovating their new place, she had put most things in storage.
Then when they moved into the new place, they only brought the absolute basics and in time realised they didn't need anymore.
But it is minimal like crazy sort. Only 3 pairs of clothes, no spares for towels or bedsheets. Wash and use. And when they go on holiday they just pace what they have which is next to nothing and let their house up for rent.
I was fascinated and for a bit talked about it but hubs was like, nope!! haha

Yeah, I realised the kids don't care for the books and the readers (that's only my daughter) read online as have I. So I said goodbye to most of the books so someone else can read them.
Having said that, I still have many and so does my daughter - she will not let me give away her Percy Jackson series, How To Train Your Dragon series, Warrior Cats series and a few others.
So we still do have a few ;D

I have stopped shopping for clothes, handbags, and shoes, except when it is needed!
I probably buy twice a year only.
I have two sets of sheets per season at home. The rest I have in storage, I don't know why I have so many sheet sets, some are unopened! I really have to donate everything, ARRRGH!!!

Book review coming up, can';t wait for that.
You reminded me that I need to de clutter its been three months since I went that route.
Books.. giving away.. hmm that might be the hardest.

I find readers not being able to wrap their heads around giving their books away haha
I totally get it - still have some of my faves but mostly my daughter's faves because she instructed me to hang on to them for her for now ;D

I have a book which was my older sons first book .. he still hangs on to it at 27 .
He was a book worm.. now he has no time to sleep let alone read.
hehe

That's precious

My boys can't be bothered to read. I managed to get them to read when younger but now it's all about the gadgets

The first one is a book worm.. the second one is an okay reader.. more into sports.

No gadgets for the boys when they were younger.. so they are no so stuck now.

It was minimum gadgets until the lockdowns - only a couple of hours over the weekend.
Then I had 4 teens staring at each other with all activities taken away from them - the gadgets became their socializing tool with friends while they play their games.
This is the thing I feel saddest about the lockdowns...

Having said that...the gadget isn't the demon. Everything in moderation of course and it has allowed them some fun without going made stuck indoors :D

The lockdown was the worst for the teens. I wrote a paper about that on the other site for UU.
I interviewed some teens and their parents before doing that and looked up studies as well.
Nothing is the demon, its all about how we use things.
I understand.

I also have an error code when I play the video, I am going to check on their Discord what's happening, I'll come back!

The Backstreet Boyz, hey? And Nick didn't give you the promised interview? How surprising 😄, I think they just wanted it that way... One week to read a book, wow that's a challenge right here!

Edit:

It works on the 3speak website! Oh my god this fingers, just awesome!

LOL good one!!
But- but... Tell my why-y?

Actually, I did also try on 3Speak... I guess it is working now
So off I go ;D

@kaerpediem! You met Backstreet Boys, that is super cool !! Whenever I see Backstreet Boys, the first thing pop up in my mind is "Tell me Why, I never wanna hear you say, I want it that way".

It's my childhood song, that time the golden hairs guy looks so cool !!

Oh dear
I am realising now that I have missed many comments
I am so sorry for being this tardy

Yes, yes I did, a very long time ago when they were just starting out.
The blonde is Nick Carter, yes he was quite a hottie and many girls crushed on him haha

Haha no worry la..
