An Alternative to Listing on Google - Keyword Staking in PRESEARCH

Until recently, while I knew of the existence of PRESEARCH, I really knew nothing about it. So with the goal of submitting an article for a competition, I started researching what PRESEARCH is all about - using the Google search engine. I began by looking for a white paper, and quickly learned PRESEARCH calls it a "Vision Paper". No problem, I started reading and instantly became very interested.

This 'Vision Paper" provided an enormous amount of very interesting information to write about and I am probably going to write more than one article as a result of this research. If you haven't done so already, I highly recommend that you take some time to read this document. Anyway, personally, I found the topic of Keyword Staking to be of interest as I knew nothing about it until writing this article.

According to the PRESEARCH Vision Paper (https://www.presearch.io/vision.pdf):

"Keyword ads that are triggered based on search
terms entered into a search engine constitute
one of the most lucrative business models in
history. Google is on track to generate $1 trillion
in total ad sales from its platform, all at a very
high profit margin."

From a Marketing standpoint, with traditional keyword advertising, a merchant picks a keyword directly associated with the product or service the merchant offers, and when a consumer searches for that word, the merchant's advertisement is displayed ahead of other organic results. In this traditional model an auction process is employed wherein the merchant who pays the highest price for one click on the proposed ad has that ad placed as the first ad displayed on the result page.

Although the search engines derive high profits from this process, the resulting system is not without its problems. Various transparency and fraud issues exist in the traditional system.

In an attempt to mitigate these problems PRESEARCH has revolutionized Keyword Staking to replace the auction process present in the traditional system within its platform. There is a three step process to "bid" for advertising placement on a PRESEARCH search page: 1) the merchant chooses a keyword or key phrase; 2) the merchant then locks up [stakes] the PRESEARCH native token, PRE, that the merchant has earned or purchased in a sum chosen by the merchant; and, 3) the merchant creates an ad that is linked to its web page for business. In this system, when a consumer searches a keyword, the PRESEARCH search engine examines the number of PRE that have been staked to that keyword and the merchant who has the highest amount of PRE locked to that word has its ad displayed.

While the merchant's PRE are staked, ownership and control over the tokens remain with the merchant, but the merchant is prohibited from using the staked PRE to stake them again against different keywords. While staked, the merchant may not remove the staked PRE from the platform, but the merchant's ad is being displayed within the search pages against the chosen keyword or phrase.

However, as ownership and control of the staked PRE is reserved to the merchant, the merchant may at anytime unstake the locked PRE to be used at the merchant's discretion. Upon this unstaking, the merchant's advertisement associated with the subject PRE is no longer displayed as a search result. Once the locked PRE are unstaked, the merchant may move the PRE to a wallet or sell them and, as a result therefrom, the advertising traffic received by the merchant during the staking period was, in effect, free advertising.

As I stated above, I have found many aspects of the PRESEARCH platform inherently interesting. Honestly, while I find the Vision Paper interesting, I am unimpressed by the PRESEARCH platform. I do encourage all to try it as different people have different tastes/needs. It just didn't work for me.

This is a really cool concept. Thanks for raising our awareness about it.

I brought a speaker to campus a few months ago (Jared Meyer), speaking on the topic of Should government break up the "Big Tech" social media giants?.

I wrote an announcement post that has been updated with a link where you can view the archived recording of the talk. The talk had a good explanation of why we should NOT repeal Section 230.

(Section 230 might be a good topic for @kevinnag58 to write on ... 😉)

My personal take on the idea of breaking up big tech (or any heavy gov't regulation thereupon) was (and is):

  1. Putting anything related to "Big Tech" under the direct control of the government is a bad idea. (If we can't trust private companies with that sort of power, why on earth should we trust gov't officials with it?)
  2. The U.S. gov't trying to break up or stifle big tech companies will just pave the way for Chinese companies to arise and take their place (and all Chinese companies are essentially agents of the Chineses gov't -- the end result will be far worse).
  3. We need to just be patient; eventually decentralized competitors will overtake the existing big tech giants. (PRESEARCH is an excellent example of one such contender).

Thank you. I plan on a Section 230 article real soon due to Facebook's recent action barring Trump for 6 more months to make a decision on a permanent ban. A lot of research to do on that one - as well as on the other backlogged projects. Too bad there's only 24 hours in a day - most days it's not enough.

I have a favor to ask of you. Would you kindly read my article on Woke Culture and Corporate Advertising and give me your critical review of it. It seems it is causing a bit of a stir on Publish0x and I'm concerned that the article may be seem as being too slanted and/or lacking objectivity. I'm very interested in your opinion.

Thanks.

Presearch advertising AKA KW staking is dope! It's similar to Google Ads (AdWords) in the early stages although some big brands such as for example Tesla are already running ads using staked PRE.

I got into PRE before I discovered Hive. I still use it as a search machine and have currently 61 PRE. It needs a lot of improvement. Sometimes the searchnode just fails and it offers you to go to Dsearch instead and the price seems to fall steadily since they had their big marketing campagin on publish0x.

It's a great idea and i wish them all the best, but I'm not convinced that they can revolutionize onlinesearches.
