Big Snow Storm

The other day we had a snow storm storm warning come though where I live in Canada. It began pretty early in the morning and carried on through to the evening.

I watched the snow get worse throughout the day from my office window and tried to take a photo every couple of hours to watch the conditions progress, or maybe deteriorate would be a more fitting word.

Note the cyclist in the photo above, biking with a snow shovel across his handle bars... I don't know whether to be impressed by his daring or concerned about his mental health.

We had a storm like this on the 23rd of December and I made it home alright that day, so I wasn't too concerned.

you cant actually tell how hard its snowing from the photos but you can kind of get an idea from the one right above at how bad it was getting. It was not stop heavy snow and was basically moving towards white out conditions.

The roads weren't overly bad in some places but they were moving at a snails pace everywhere. It was slow enough for me to take a photo while driving...I was all but stopped really.

I waited in line for my exit off the highway for a long time, only moving up one car length every 3 minutes or so.

Just as a note: the rest of the photos are just to show how pretty the snow made everything.

After about 15 minutes or more of waiting to exit, I realized that the line wasn't really going forward at all, it was only moving because people were leaving the que to find an alternate route home. Eventually I followed suite. As it turned out the exit was shut down entirely and the other highway that I needed to get home was closed off.

I basically couldn't get home that night, so I took the next exit to loop around and head back in the other direction. Luckily my in laws have an extra bed and live only 20 minutes away from my work. If I would have went straight there I would have saved myself at least an hour and half of messing around in traffic. But what can you do. I stayed the night and then went back to work the next day in the same clothes that I had been wearing the night before 😂.

But anyway, look at how pretty the snow made everything!

Well thats it for now. Until next time, thanks for stopping by.

Sort:

I once hopped on my Dutch bicycle after classes, convinced I'd get through a snowstorm with some effort.
I was knee-high in the snow and ended up carrying my heavy old Dutch bicycle on my bloody head. I had to walk about 4 miles, all because I could not risk leaving my bike at the campus because it would be stolen.

I hated life and everything that moves that night!

Wow. That sounds pretty awful. Hilarious to imagine though. On your head!?! 😂😆

The Netherlands was where I experienced snow for the first time and I thought once was enough!
It took a lot of strength for me to face the snow because rain and sunshine was all I knew.
I nearly cried carrying that bike home with numbed fingers.😡

Yeah snow is a whole other animal to rain lol. It doesn't take long for snow to freeze your fingers and hands and feet. Gloves are a must in Canada in winter.

Haha! I was wearing gloves daily since August. I had on full winter gear including earmuffs from September! Therefore, I did not acclimatize to the weather. By the time February came, I was just about suicidal 🤣

Oh I see. Yeah I suppose it's not enough sometimes. Mother nature is a powerful thing lol

Wow! That escalated quickly! I haven't seen so much snow for a while and I even came to Poland hoping to see some, but it's not snowing at all 🤦‍♀️😂💙

Yeahwe have been getting a lot this week. It's still snowing pretty hard now

You have plenty to write about then :)

I don't know whether to be impressed by his daring or concerned about his mental health.
The latter for even going out on a bike in the snow!

Yeah I thinks so too

Yes, it makes everything so beautiful, also so difficult to drive, glad you had a place to stay!

Yeah it's really a blessing and a curse at the same time haha

I saw a dude ride a bicycle like that once but it was Bill Murray and it wasn't Canada, it was a movie. And it wasn't snow, either, it was cocaine. Otherwise, totally the same.

Lmao 😂
Almost exactly the same haha

Snow is good until you have to get somewhere. In holland, schools close already when there is a tiny bit of snow. We Dutch don't manage to keep the roads save. In Austria, everything seems to always keep running when there is a lot of snow.

Snow is good until you have to get somewhere.

Very true. Shoveling the driveway is pain as well. The main reason we can drive on the roads in Canada is because of snow tires on our cars. Without them you can't really drive in the winter. They make all the difference. We also have a lot of snow plows, clearing and salting the roads.

Oh yeah I have never even thought about shoveling the driveway indeed. That must be awful to do before going to work in the early morning!

Great photos… it’s still snowing here on the Rideau River 🇨🇦

Nice. Great photos! Looks like the dog is enjoying itself

Yeah… Lola loves the snow.

Snow can really mess up driving plans, that's for sure. Glad you had an alternative place to stay. I understand the frustration of wasting so much time in traffic getting nowhere.

Yeah traffic sucks that's for sure lol. stop and go traffic is the worst. Yeah I was pretty fortunate to have a place close by to go. If I had to find a different route I don't know how I would have gotten home

indeed, Snow is just like an artist who made the environment more beautiful. Thank you for sharing @leaky20

Yes a fresh snowfall is definitely pretty

Snow turns every place into a wonderland...

Very true 👍
