RIP The Queen

It's been raining all day today in UK as if the sky had opened up, waiting. News came at noon time that the Queen was unwell and her close family was on the way to see her in Scotland where she was in summer residence. By early evening, the wait was over. The Queen had died at age 96.

Queen Elizabeth wasn't born expecting to be the Queen. Her uncle became the King, King Edward VIII when she was ten years old. King Edward was unmarried and he fell in love with an American divorcee Wallis Simpson. As the head of the Church of England, Edward wasn't allowed to marry Wallis, the only option was giving up his love or giving up the throne. After reigning for less than a year, Edward chose the latter and abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson. The throne was passed to his brother, King George VI, the Queen's father. Elizabeth's fate was sealed on this day. She later became the Queen at 25 years old and remained on the throne for the next 70 years.

Not many of us work for a full 70 years till our death, the Queen is one of the few. Even before she came to the throne, she committed to dedicate her whole life to serve the nation. It's no surprise that she never stepped down even when her health was deteriorating in recent years.

For most people, The Queen is one of the few constant presence in our life, just like our grandmother. During those 70 years she's had 15 British Prime Ministers, 12 Canadians Prime Ministers, met 13 out of the 14 American Presidents and numerous other head of states. Visitors come to UK, many jokingly saying they've come to see the Queen. It's like the Queen is not only the Queen of UK, but the Queen of the world.

Being a Brit, despite not English, I feel great sadness about the Queen's death. Regardless of ones view on the Royal family, losing a matriarch figure, a rock that has steadied the nation through thick and thin, pains the nation. And I dare say, the sentiment is felt not only in UK, but in many countries around the world.

Philip came to me today,
and said it was time to go.
I looked at him and smiled,
as i whispered that "I know"

I then turned and looked behind me,
and saw I was asleep.
All my Family were around me,
and I could hear them weep.

I gently touched each shoulder,
with Philip by my side.
Then I turned away and walked,
with My Angel guide.

Philip held my hand,
as he lead the way,
to a world where King's and Queens,
are Monarch's every day.

I was given a crown to wear
or a Halo known by some.
The difference is up here,
they are worn by everyone.

I felt a sense of peace,
my reign had seen its end.
70 years I had served my Country,
as the peoples friend.

Thank you for the years,
for all your time and love.
Now I am one of two again,
in our Palace up above.

Your post is really an eye opening one for me @livinguktaiwan , I just learnt a good history from you now Thank you.. really missed your posts, not been active for a while (MY PHONE HAD ISSUES) and I've gotten a New one 🤗

I can't tell if it's a painful exit, because in my country when one dies at that age it calls for celebration and it will be tagged (A LIFE WELL SPENT) But I know it must be a sad one for her family and those closest to Her (May her soul rest in Peace)

But you really need to see how Nigerians took this News, both on Twitter, fb, Whatsapp and the likes. You will start to Wonder if they were related to the Queen 😁 ... Many took it as joke as well. Would have posted some Memes but that may be for another day _ Thanks ones more for sharing @khingstan Cares 🤴✌️

when one dies at that age it calls for celebration

living to 96 is certainly worth celebrating, but as the Monarch, it feels her passing away needs to be respected rather than rejoiced, and every little details of her funeral has been planned many years ahead by the Firm.

I hope the jokes were well-mannered ones!!!

Yeah they were well mannered to an extent ...

Guy I was about commenting that last paragraph... Nigerians are taking the death of the Queen to something else!

Nigerians are ever crazy like we know na 😁😁 my status full with craziness that day, even me I had to catch a little of the fun🏃‍♂️

Made she rest in peace, a great woman and a great Queen!

Truly a great woman, I've heard allot about her since I was a kid

I think much of the world grew up knowing her as the most famous Queen

Yeah that's true
She's indeed famous

She is finally back with her Prince now

This is sad news to wake up. She survived COVID and seems OK till recently.
I think will be some months of morning.

I guess even though Singapore is part of the Commonwealth, sentiment won't be so strong?

She is been around long enough and I think visited Singapore twice.
Many of the older folks will remember. I had some stamps of her too.
There is one block of flat in my town she visited which is still around.
Block 53 on this
https://www.roots.gov.sg/places/places-landing/Places/landmarks/toa-payoh-trail/blk-53-the-vip-block
Channel News Asia has a video that talked about that

I guess many of the younger folks don't really care.

My mother was English, and my aunt was born on her birthday. She remembersed her engagement, wedding, coronation and her role in the war... She was a constant in my life.

Since watching the Jubilee, I have had a sense that she was not long for this world. Last night as I watched Sky News as I cooked supper, I commented on what a role model she had been. I wonder if, in death, she could have the same impact as in life. I hope so.

As they keep on saying, the end of an era.

We all hope the great Era doesn't end

I think people will always remember her as The Queen, but life will move on and UK will move into a new era. What the new era will be like remains to be seen.

I saw the news last night.
The story of how she became Queen is a pretty interesting one. It makes me want to watch the Crown now.

You'll have a lot of TV series to watch, but The Crown is another one I'd recommend. It will be interesting to watch the latest season which I think is about the Sussexes fallout

Yeah my wife watches the Crown. I started but fell out of interest part way through Season 1. I don't think I gave it a fair shot though so I will probably try again after Downton Abbey.

Even though she was 96, I still was so shocked when I heard.

losing a matriarch figure, a rock that has steadied the nation through thick and thin, pains the nation

I said the exact same thing. Now personally, I'm not overly impressed with the royals, as they're power-wise a far cry from the monarchies of old, and are mostly a show at this point. Didn't stop me welling up when I heard. And I couldn't stand those people rejoicing that she'd died. I mean, that's so cold and glib.

So yeah, may she rest in peace.

The monarch always divides people, no matter which country it is. If you take away the royalty, she's also a hard working granny who dedicated her life working for many and I think that deserves respect

Farewell to the Queen, and may her soul rest in perfect peace.

She has done a sterling job throughout her life and can finally join her Prince again now

Heartbreaking news. We all knew it would happen one day but yet, we are all shocked now :( Rest in peace, Her Majesty.

As the former Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in his tribute, like children, we believed she would go on and on. But ultimately we all knew this day would come

I hope that marriage worked out for that guy that left the throne. It would be horrible if it didn't and he gave that all up for nothing. I saw that she passed yesterday and I was a bit sad. Being an American I don't really understand the affection people have for royalty. Guess I am just too blue collar. I dunno.

Edward and Wallis lived in exile for the rest of their lives in France, they were a taboo subject for the Royal family and the Queen Mother hated "that woman" which she felt ultimately caused the early death of her husband. That whole episode of history is worthy of it's own movie!

I think the royal family serves it's purpose in UK, my husband always says they're a good sales team for UK ☺️

Very interesting!

I do hope so too, because sometimes people choose the reflection thinking it's actual diamond 💎

May she rest in peace.

Hello Pauline. Yesterday when I heard the news I was thinking wow there are very few people that remember an England before her reign. I like how you said that she is like a grandmother to the nation. I was thinking most people would have memories of her when she was older. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, poem and history.

Hi Sara, I think the Queen has definitely matured gracefully in recent decades. I saw some collages of her, a photo a decade. She was very beautiful and radiant in the earlier decades, as she reached 50 - 60 years old, I think that was probably the worse period of her life with 3 of her 4 children getting a divorce, the death of Diana etc, and that seems to have reflected on how she looked. Then in recent decades, the monarchy has gained popularity and the Queens looks so regal and elegant, and I think that's the memory people will have of her.

I saw the poem circulating on my FB feed and found is so touching, had to share it here. Glad you liked it as well.

She has definitely lived the life she dreamed and desired for. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Not sure if she dreamed and desired for it, but she knew it was her destiny and embraced it whole heartedly and did a very good job of it over the years.

it is more like she was destined for the throne, as it found its way to her. Just to look at it, someone who is ready to serve the nation no matter what, and a worthy position comes forth. Being the Queen must have felt nice, and she served still her last breath. Rest in Peace, Grandmother Elizabeth!

Thank you that you brought her life story here to be engraved in our hive memorialforest
And youre right if anybody talked about "the Queen" also outside UK, it was clear this can only be she.
I tried to imagine what changes she witnessed in the world during her life!

RIP Queen Elizabeth II from England

The whole country is turned into one memorial for Queen Elizabeth II, my mother and sister went to Buckingham palace today but could not get through, but also it was quite crowded and people coming all the time.

Thank you for sharing, @livinguktaiwan I shall miss Her Majesty The Queen.

Annabelle 😔

I was saddened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. I know I am American, but, she was, without a doubt highly respected around the world. At this point, it had little to do with being Royal, and more about the person.

Many here join the UK in mourning the great loss.

She was truly a class act. I hope that doesn't sound too low-class.

Thanks for your kind words Denise. Sometimes it's difficult to know how much an impact events from UK have on the rest of the world. Of course this is major in UK but we shouldn't expect the rest of the world to care much tbh. However, judging by media reaction and engagement on Hive it does seem it's made headlines around the world, perhaps a granny who's worked for 70 years and met so many head of states and important people does command a level of respect by all 😌

I probably worded that wrong. She was loved by many Americans, not only for her role as a Monarch but, for her role as a human being. She has earned that respect.

Because we cannot all be there during some of the events she hosts, many watches as it is televised on the other side of the pond.

May she Rest in Peace.

What an eye opening content. The Queen is not just the queen of England, rather the queen of the world. Her rulership was a supreme one. She was nothing but a heroin
