A UNIQUE THING ABOUT MY HOMETOWN

As a human, it's always expected that we were given birth to by another human and so on and that also help us in knowing where we are from, which I would call my a HOMETOWN. I'm human so of course I do have my hometown(s) because my dad and my mum are from two different places which also makes me a part of those places. I would have loved to talk more on my dad's hometown which I'm also a part of but then, I spent more time in my mum's hometown than my dad's. My mum is from a village called Orogun and if you don't know the place called Orogun, don't worry because that's why I'm here, to tell you about my hometown.

Just like most other hometown, my hometown is focused more on agriculture as the major source of livelihood and people are always ready to go outside the comfort of their homes to make sure they put food on the table for their families. Orogun is small town in south south region of Nigeria and they have different things that makes them stand out from other neighboring towns. Well the fact that I lived there does not mean I know everything about the Orogun culture but then there are a few things I can share with you a few things that can make you love your stay at Orogun and have so much fun for you, especially for tourists.

In Orogun, they are known for their respect for iguanas. For those of you that don't know what an iguana is, I will share a photo of it below so you can get to know at least how it looks. The iguanas in my community can be both friendly and too friendly, lol. They are very free to move around, they are not restricted to how far they move, I will call them free moving agents because that is what they truly are.

You know, the second time I was privileged to visit my hometown, I was a little bit scared seeing so many iguanas roaming around. There was this day when we went to visit our neighbor to watch TV and before I could realize what was happening, I saw an Iguana in the house, if only you could have seen me, I quickly jumped on my big cousin brother's body, lol. The owner of the house did not even want to chase it away but because of how scared we were, she kindly asked it to leave, just to make us feel relaxed.

There was also a time when I saw it in our public bathroom, and even our open kitchen, most of this was time we were warned not to harm it in any way. Most people of Orogun community literally worship the Iguana as they believed it helped their ancestors in time past and the best way to repay the iguanas for their help was to make their hometown a safe abode for them. And this has made the iguanas friendly to people who live there except in rare cases when they have to run away just to save themselves from people who are trying to hurt them.

The iguanas is the major thing my hometown is known for and the it's just so fascinating to behold but scary if you are scared of animals like me, hehe. I do hope I was able to give you an insight of what my hometown is like and what makes it a little bit different from others.

Until next time, stay AWESOME!!!

Wow! Interesting! I have never heard of Iguana becoming friendly in an hometown. I think Hive Learners would make me read and learn people's hometown. I hope they do not hurt though?

 last year

I'm happy to have helped you learn that now. Well, the ones in my hometown don't hurt people except you try to hurt them but that hardly happens sef.

 last year

For me, I would be moved to hurt them because I detest seeing such things around me 😅

This is the first time I am seeing what an iguana looks like, I only know they exist but I have never seen one.

 last year

Oh I see, now you have seen it, hehe.

wow I just found out about iguanas there living in the wild, of course this is very interesting, yes you are right if you are afraid of course this will be a scary thing and I'm sure the people there have strong traditions and customs Thank you for sharing about the situation at your hometown

The iguanas are supposed to be wild but they are not in my hometown and like you have suspected, the people of my hometown do have strong beliefs and traditions.

I think we all have a soft corner for our hometown and I don't know there may exists something which gives a different kind of satisfaction. I always love to visit my hometown as many times as I can.

I can't say same for myself though, I actually try to avoid anything that will make me visit my hometown because I don't just like it there

Yes dear @hopestylist, the fact of being afraid or not of this type of animals will be decisive for a good interaction with them.

In my hometown you can see them but in the outskirts, in the areas full of vegetation and on the banks of rivers.

Something that may seem grotesque to you, and with which we can make a contrast, is that in my country many people eat iguana eggs and even their meat.

To such an extent that the government had to legislate and protect them from humans, penalizing their hunting, which was leading to their literal extinction
.

It is fantastic that in your hometown you can see them so closely and enjoy their company!

Thank you for sharing such wonderful information. It was truly a feast to read your publication!

First of all, I love how you put in effort to making your comments so beautiful to read, I like it.

Yes my hometown we forbid people from killing the iguanas because anyone that does that will face the punishment for that.

It's a good thing the Government are doing something to protect them now.

Oh Whao.
I love this topic, I've been learning quite a lot lately and it's so awesome to know about other parts of your country.

This is my first time hearing about Iguanas, thanks for sharing.

It's totally my pleasure sharing all of this with you, thank you so much for stopping by

 last year

LoL 🤣 but why is it that some people are scared to go home?
I guess it's because there are lots of things there that we don't usually see where we are staying

I love going home but am not always chance to
Most especially when anyone of my siblings wants to get married hmmm am always happy to go home

 last year

Good for you then, me I'm part of the few that don't like visiting her hometown and that is because of mostly my experiences there, it just don't feel like home to me except I have other relatives coming over and that hardly happens except for marriages and burials, lol

 last year

I have heard of the animal, I know them to be reptiles but I don't know them to be friendly.

Still honoring your ancestral tradition is huge and I would have been very scared of this creature if I visit your hometown.

 last year

Hahaha, it's fine to be scared of it but trust me it is harmless there as long as you don't try to harm it.

Wow. We learn new things every day. I would be scared too. But it is fascinating to know that there are diverse people and cultures. I'd love to read about your paternal village next. Hehe.

 last year

I really don't know too much about my paternal village but I look forward to telling you all the little I know, hehe.

Thank you so much for stopping by 🥰
