But now enough background infos, lets go for a walk on this sunny day in January.

Hope our dearest Hive user @tengolotodo has fun to see some more Impressions of Lisbon. Mate, I promised to show more right? So lets goooooooooo....

I met with friends to take a leisurely walk. We met at the entrance of the garden and walked down the harbor from Torre de Belem.

IMG_20230121_141935_edit_1076834194603392.jpg

Here, of course, you'll find #historical #monuments from Portugal's past.

The Torre de Belém (simply translated: Tower of #Belém) is located in the Belém district of the same name at the Tagus River and is one of Lisbon's most famous landmarks. This is actually where all tourists come to take a few #snapshots.

Together with the nearby Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, the Torre de Belem is one of the few outstanding buildings of the #Manueline style that, thank God, survived the great Lisbon earthquake of 1755. The top exposed floor of the tower, 35 meters high, is now an observation deck. Of course, you can only go up for a "small" entrance fee.

IMG_20230121_142045_edit_1077319468982484.jpg

This side of the river and harbor is beautiful and ideal for walks on sunny days.

What is unfortunately noticeable is the dead #jellyfish and #garbage that washes ashore from the sea. Unfortunately unavoidable as long as mankind produces plastic and garbage.

IMG_20230121_142617_edit_1078186730899540.jpg

We walked past the "100 anos da aviacao naval monument" which is a beautiful tribute to the pioneers of #Portuguese naval aviation.

IMG_20230121_142709_edit_1078262596178174.jpg

IMG_20230121_142733_edit_1078330673015143.jpg

The monument is located right on the Tagus River and honors two aviation pioneers who flew across the Atlantic Ocean from #Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro in 1922 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Brazil's independence.

IMG_20230121_142738_edit_1078360635552638.jpg

It is said that pilot Cabral Sacadura and navigator Gago Coutinho used a single-engine seaplane with two Fairey III-D MkII wings to do so. Three planes were used, the first one had the name "Lusitânia", the others were called "Pátria" and "Santa Cruz".

IMG_20230121_142807_edit_1078522300659384.jpg

(some #blackwhite #photos are waiting for you tooooooooo)

IMG_20230121_142800_edit_1078491281523451.jpg

This flight route was a feat and record-breaking: it was the first crossing of the #AtlanticOcean from the air and the first astronomical navigation from the airplane. Interesting, isn't it?

IMG_20230121_142820_edit_1078561221299482.jpg

IMG_20230121_142838_edit_1078590273484895.jpg

The pioneers' journey took 79 days, but the flight time was only 62 hours, for a total distance of about 8,383 kilometers. The trip was an #inspiration for other adventurous #pilots, including the famous Charles Lindbergh, who made a similar adventure trip in 1927.

IMG_20230121_142951_edit_1078760699293723.jpg

Very close to this monument there is also a small #market where you can eat something or buy #souvenirs made of #cork.

IMG_20230121_143025_edit_1078938927472862.jpg

IMG_20230121_143009_edit_1078881328131204.jpg

If you don't want to walk, you can also take a tuk-tuk, which is very popular for tourists.

IMG_20230121_142929_edit_1078626312704160.jpg

Me and my friends moved on, crossing the harbor with all the little boats.

(of course some beautiful #flowers are even around here!)

IMG_20230121_143745_edit_1079102557480129.jpg

(I love this ones but do not know the name, what a shame.)

IMG_20230121_143753_edit_1079215537495737.jpg

There is no directly way along the Harbor for some parts. So we had to walk in an half circle around to get back to it.

WALK&TALK was our "quote" this day. We chatted about "God and the World". Of course when we saw something interesting we hold on, watched it, philosophed a bit about it and continued walking again.

IMG_20230121_143956_edit_1079532456320688.jpg

IMG_20230121_143937_edit_1079499376463923.jpg

Like here, we stood here for a while and were talking about the stone #sculptures at the wall.

IMG_20230121_144017_edit_1079570382814953.jpg

IMG_20230121_144022_edit_1079605200551406.jpg

IMG_20230121_144026_edit_1079637136735777.jpg

Here we had a little discussion about the face impressions of the figures. To me they don't look happy. My friends said of course not, they should represent the hard times of Portuguese people. Idk, if this is really the reason why they are looking so seriously. What you think?

IMG_20230121_144053_edit_1079704890387329.jpg

And what do I see here? A elephants fountain? I can't remember that #elephants are normally in Portugal... Maybe they should represent the connection which #Portugal had once upon a time to #india.

IMG_20230121_144045_edit_1079678481763895.jpg

Anyway, its a nice hidden one to me.
In past times the Portuguese high society was very interested in tbe ancient knowledge of India. I think not many know that.

IMG_20230121_144115_edit_1079769256938881.jpg

IMG_20230121_144113_edit_1079730961158158.jpg

Fishermen are everywhere around, no matter if on the Harbor, beach or boardwalks. Portugal was a kind of fishermen and sailors nation back in old times.

IMG_20230121_144159_edit_1079793350764919.jpg

We walked on, passing by the "um Cento de Cestos" (#Museu de Arte Popular). Aaah, I'll show you that one too. It's quite nice and houses interesting artwork.

IMG_20230121_144207_edit_1079835832057621.jpg

IMG_20230121_144308_edit_1079869566678449.jpg

Haha, this looks funny right?

IMG_20230121_144314_edit_1079891631931050.jpg

Is it a bird?
Is it a helicopter?
Nope, its a water birdycopter (fantasy word, don't know how I should call it 🤣😅)

IMG_20230121_144400_edit_1079954478873228.jpg

A very creative way to recycle an old machine in a funny #artwork. Cute metal #bird. Would the #Featherfriends try it out and take place in it?

IMG_20230121_144517_edit_1079980725111766.jpg

This is a dream for all #stickerart fans. Forgive me if I don't count and name the stickers at this point. Tooooooo many of them. I was total overwhelmed by this massive sticker spot.

IMG_20230121_144522_edit_1080005407726345.jpg

But I tried to get some close-ups for you guys, so you can see it all by yourself.

And a short video for my #stickerart crew.

20230124_231407.gif

The Padrão dos Descobrimentos is also an unmissable #monument here.

IMG_20230121_144607_edit_1080277641063283.jpg

The architectural design was by Cottinelli Telmo and the sculptures by Leopoldo de Almeida.

The original monument was made of perishable material and was built in 1940 for Portugal's World's Fair to honor the historical figures involved in the Portuguese discoveries.

Tattaaaaa, the final view. 😍
Wanna see the #museum from downstairs? Ok, I will show you.

IMG_20230121_150627_edit_1082315885712451.jpg

Beautiful #architecture isn't it?

My friends didn't feel like touring the museum that day (unfortunately) , the weather was so nice that we spent the time outside, but I wanted to show you some impressions from the outside. It's really super fancy to look at and also a nice place to linger.

IMG_20230121_150710_edit_1082402236431188.jpg

IMG_20230121_150707_edit_1082382284410358.jpg

We then walked a bit further, chose a restaurant at the harbor, where we had a drink and spent the time together quite relaxed. Even after this 2 hours walk we needed to restt the feet a bit.

I hope I could give you a few nice impressions. Happy Wednesdaywalk to all of you.
