Poros is a small island almost attached to the mainland. Actually it is just a small channel of sea that separates it from the opposite shore. Both in the panoramic picture above, as well as in the one below, you can see on the right side the mainland and on the left the island! Crazy, isn't it? The distance is about 200 meters (656 ft) and we could have easily swim our way there. But we figured that it won't be very practical to swim with a camera bag on our shoulders so we took the ferry :)
The trip with the ferry was ridiculously short but it gave me the chance to take a few nice shots of the village as we were approaching it. The architectural style of the buildings dates at the early days of the 19th century when the modern Greek state was just forming.
Now it is a favorite destination for small getaways since it is very close to the capital and easily accessed both by ship or by car. The settlement has very narrow streets, beautiful houses and a feeling of history all around.
On the picture above you can see from another angle how close it is to the mainland. The plants on the bottom of the picture are on the island while the houses on the upper part are at the opposite shore. And the ferry in between!
As usual the neglected houses and the signs of abandonment drew my attention and a big part of my pictures are capturing just that. I remember that it was a time that a hiver was kept asking me why I take pictures of the old and dirty places instead of the new shiny ones. I never managed to explain to him how appealing and beautiful look into my eyes!

Walking around all those narrow streets gave me a very relaxing feeling, like life should be calm and easy around here. And of course I didn't see any of the people been anxious or in a hurry too :)
The end of the walk was by the sea and towards the ferry just in time to enjoy a wonderful sunset!

Indeed swimming with a camera bag would not have bene a good idea even though its a short distance and one many could easily swim
but such an awesome island so much to see from the streets to the boats

Oh, I agree, how could you not feel relaxed and calm in such a beautiful place. I think half of the fun of your trip would be the ferry. So fun. Your photos always make me wish I had made it to the islands
