Wednesday Walk - Walking Along a little Stream Flowing Through the Forest.

in Wednesday Walk2 years ago

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

The weekend before last, we've had some light rain, but nothing serious. We still got some time to go out for a walk and I was able to get some photos for my #wednesdaywalk post of last week.

But this last weekend was another story again.

You'll remember that I have done some posts mentioning the floods we had last month. There were some posts from other South African community members too, also noting the same.

Well, with those floods still fresh in our memories and ongoing attempts to repair the damage to infrastructure, roads, etc., it seems that the challenges are not over yet.

Many areas are still battling with power outages and no water, as can also be seen when you look at this comment by @joanstewart on a post of mine.

Last week, we were without electricity on Thursday and Friday and I couldn't get my posts published as planned.

Then, last weekend, it started raining again and it was more flooding and mudslides. It started raining on Friday evening and the first time it stopped raining was on Sunday (late morning).

But on a lighter note...no, my post is not all about doom and gloom...lol. No, I can actually share some more photos today of our walk in the Springside Nature Reserve.

These were photos I planned on sharing last week Thursday, but I suppose today is as good as any other day...and today I can share them in our #wednesdaywalk and #makemesmile collaboration.

In last week's post, I shared the trail where we walked in the reserve.

Today I would like to share some photos, focusing more on the little stream that we walked along. There was one area in particular, that I really found beautiful.

In this first photo, you can see the stream flowing gently through the forest.

Just a little further downstream, we found this scene, where the water is crystal clear.

DSC_2209.jpg

With my next photo, I didn't really get the effect I was looking for...

I wanted to zoom in somewhat, focusing on the clear water flowing over the hard, stony surface. It didn't come out the way I saw it in my mind, but I'll share it anyway...

Looking at the same spot, just from a different angle.

Zooming in a bit...

DSC_2213.jpg

Just a little bit upstream, the water is once again calmy running down through the forest, but the evidence is clear that just a month ago, the water came down forcefully along this route...

It wasn't always carved out this deep...

DSC_2210.jpg

And a little closer look at the depth. I would estimate the width at about 2 meters, at some places going up to about 3 meters. With the depth that is visible here, one can imagine the force of the water that must have been coming through here...

And that's it for today, folks!

Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!

Yes, it's a beautiful place to walk indeed. I do agree with you! Listening to the water as it flows is very relaxing and has a calming effect on me too, especially in a natural environment such as this.

I agree with you! Some of these people are still trying to rebuild their homes and now got hit again... It's heartbreaking to see.

But I am glad you enjoyed my photos. Thank you for your kind words, I do appreciate it!

I just say it as I see it :)

Thank you👍

I love water when I am out walking.
Tomorrow I shall be going on a wee walk and will past a stream we call them a burn over here and it has some wee waterfalls but plenty of trees and reminds me of your stream.
A great walk Jaco and glad the weather seems to be getting better too.

Yes, I also love water...and when I get to waterfalls, it brings me to a standstill.

I hope we'll see some photos of your walk! I'd love to see what you are describing here. A burn... That's interesting... I 'haven't heard that before.

English is not my first language... Is that unique to you guys in your country or is it a common way in English to call them a burn?

Maybe you have posted already... we had to leave home unexpectedly (for a few days) and I'm a bit behind schedule. I'll check your profile. No pressure though, I'm just curious to see what you were talking about...lol.

Sorry to hear about the struggles there @jacoalberts it does make things rather hard for many.
Luckily you could share again a post with us.
Beautiful stream… and photographs of it.

Do take care 🤗🤗😊

Nice surroundings! I can almost smell and hear the trees and the water. Nice! Very peaceful, right?

Wow! This is a very inspiring comment for me! Thank you so much for your feedback, I appreciate it very much and it means a lot to me.

Yes, it is a very peaceful place. At times, we just stood still, and just listened to the utter silence. God's creation remains the best medicine for the soul! Just to get away from everything and get energized again.

Thank you for your meaningful comment and have a great day!

I'm the one who needs to thank you! Lately, I have not done any hiking, and truth be told, I miss it! That's probably why I reacted that way to your pictures. We all really need to get disconnected every now and then and get outside and go for a walk in Nature. Your comment below summarized it very well!

At times, we just stood still, and just listened to the utter silence. God's creation remains the best medicine for the soul!

I hope you'll be able to get out soon again😉👍!
