🇺🇸 Hello #WednesdayWalk Community

Early today I went to visit my beloved town of Pampatar, and taking advantage of the cool morning weather I walked to the Castillo San Carlos de Borromeo, which is located specifically on the Bay of Pampatar.

Its official name is La Real Fortaleza de San Carlos de Borromeo, it is a military construction dating from the time of the viceroyalty of the Nueva Esparta state, being one of the most important and advanced because it defended that important area from pirates and corsairs.

The construction of this castle or fortress began in 1622, taking 20 years to complete. It was destroyed by pirates and was rebuilt.

Architecturally speaking the castle is a beauty, it is built with blocks of mortar and mollusk shells, its base is in the shape of a star and the entrance has a drawbridge.

The floor is the typical stone of the time. In the lower part there are bedrooms where the soldiers slept and a couple of cells to hold those who threatened the tranquility. Many of the wooden windows, doors and ceilings are still in perfect condition. Everything as a whole makes it a very special place.

The view from the top is wonderful, simply a spectacle. As I approach the watchtowers, it is inevitable to imagine what the real activity of those years would be like, the constant movement in El Fuerte and the fight with the pirates.

Thank you very much @ecency. I boosted for 500 ecency points equal to $ 3,845, but received only $ 2,514. There was a mistake? Thanks for reviewing #ecency

Try to boost with smaller amount for more accurate estimation. Our estimation script considers many factors and sometimes bigger boosts will be slightly off. Because market prices might be volatile or current reward pool state might shift around.

Thanks so much for the explanation @ecency. I keep it in mind for next time, regards

It doesn't look very old. Maybe it has received a few restorations? Or maybe it's well-taken care of?
San Carlos Borromeo is one of the patron saints of our University. The school is even named after him. It's kind of cool having a castle named after him was used for protection against the pirates.
Thanks for sharing this Wednesday Walk!

In reality the castle was demolished and rebuilt several times by pirates. I do not know exactly when was the last reconstruction, what is certain is the effort they make to keep it in good condition. Thanks for the comment and support.
