The place where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet!

in Wednesday Walklast year

DSC_5900.JPG

The day I met Mrs Ocean was very cloudy. The sky was dull and grey, saying me that it would be better not even to walk here. Go back to the car and continue toward the next destination.
On the other hand, it could not be missed out, to stand on the southernmost point of Continental Europe. Cloudy or rainy, it didn't matter, we were there to take a short rest from driving and take a tiny walk in Punta de Tarifa.

It is a tiny municipality in the province of Cádiz, south of Spain. The name is maybe a bit strange, at least I have never heard it before, but here I learned the origin of it. It was the name of a general who conquested Hispania in the eighth century, Tarif ibn Malik.

DSC_5901.JPG

I know no more history about this tiny place, and we didn't have time to explore more around it (though I saw some walls and a castle, so more historic events could probably take place there). What I do know is that geographically it is a very interesting place. It is also the point where the Mediterranean sea meets the Atlantic Ocean.

DSC_5904.JPG

Someone mocked me that I took the photo with these signs because I could soon become old and forget what is left and what is right 😂 Thanks!
But indeed, from this point, when you walk toward the small island, the two water surfaces are seen differently. The Mediterranean sea is much calmer and has a turquoise shade, and the ocean is free and wild. The long sandy beach attracted many people the walk there.

You just turn to the other side and see a completely different scenery. Calmer sea and stones on the beach. It is also true that there is a small harbour so the bay is protected from the big waves.

Even though it started to rain, and we didn't get the umbrellas from the car, we continued walking on the path that leads to the island. The luck was not on our side as it was closed with a fence. It was forbidden to pass the gate (and impossible, as I was seeing if there would be a hole to pass to the forbidden side... but no luck).

This is the closest I could reach the island. I went to one rock but couldn't find a good way to possibly climb the cliff. Maybe someone else with a more adventurous spirit would do that.

Anyway, I was already happy to see all of this. The point where the sea and the ocean meet, the southernmost point of continental Europe and seeing how a ferry was coming to the harbour from the Strait of Gibraltar. Maybe it was coming from the other side of the strait... An interesting thing to see here: the mountain we see behind the ferry is already Africa. We are seeing the coast of Morocco.

I was excited about all this and video called my family so they can be somehow with me there. It was also a bit windy, my hair was flying all around haha.

The board with the explanation of where we are. I don't understand why there are individuals who find pleasure in scratching or writing on informative boards. A pity it is scratched but it still shows how close that point is to Morocco.

DSC_5912.JPG

Our little walk finished and already from the car, I took one more photo of the coast of Africa.

IMG_20230111_092934.jpg

The road trip continued and our next destination was Cádiz. I was very surprised by the landscape I saw on that part of the road. It was so green all around (south of Spain, one (me) could think it is everything dry) and there were white flowers and a lot of cows. Oh well, it was raining, and I suppose it is normal there as water means life and green fields.

Sort:

big salty lake meets even bigger but slightly less salty lake... ;)

Exactly :)

I should title it in the way you wrote here :D

Very cool thing. Reminds me of this spot where rivers Caroní and Orinoco meet each other and do not mix. It's a cool photo of the signs. I think left or right depends on whether you're facing north or south.

The beaches look cool.

Of course left or right depends from where we are looking at it 😜
I also saw the places where two rivers meet each other, and this was the first time to see a sea and an ocean come together. Cool feeling, and it was especially exciting to see the coast of Morocco. It made me so happy! :)

That's great. I see all that traveling and it makes me kind of jealous and happy too. Looks like I'm traveling over the world without spending a single penny. 😂

Hahaha, you are lucky then, you see, no spending a penny but travelling around :D

Indeed. It's a good deal!

but.... no stamps in the passport jajajaja 😂

(don't worry, we don't have them either as passports are not required in EU countries)

Ha, ha, ha, ha. I'll have to get stickers to make due with that. 😂

Obrigada 😇🥂

De nada :D

Hi @mipiano! As always delighting us with your wonderful Wednesday walks, really fascinating. I take this opportunity to give you a big hello, wishing you a fabulous New Year.

Have a great year you too @tiaene and thank you for checking out my posts 😇 I hope you can find some interesting things in them 😉

Although it was a bit gloomy, I appreciate the beauty of the calm sea and the greenery you passed along with your road trip, dear mipiano. I love the color of the rocks and stones surrounding the sea. I see that you really had a great Wednesday walk. Have safe travels and best regards. !LUV

Yes, it was beautiful although cloudy. This short walk gave me such nice memories to store for years ;) and the whole travel time too! We arrived home already, but believe me, I would go again, right now if I could 😇

Realmente disfruto tus paseos. Tu manera de contar. En ese castillo es donde vive la mujer cisne, no está habitado de día, pero antes del anochecer ella siempre regresa.

This is the closest I could reach the island. I went to one rock but couldn't find a good way to possibly climb the cliff. Maybe someone else with a more adventurous spirit would do that.

I would surely have climbed

La foto de la costa de África desde el auto tiene algo que me fascina.

Un abrazo desde La Habana

I know you would climb, as I said people who are adventurous would do that :))

Quizás iríamos juntas, o encontrar un barquito y pasar hasta África 😉 sería una experiencia... Bueno, podemos hacerlo de momento en nuestra imaginación 🌞

Un abarazo igualmente 🤗

Sure!!!

Incredible everything you tell and what you captured on camera, now I have a question my dear @mipiano, is to better understand something... in the 5th photo, that road leads to a smaller island? does it belong to Tarifa Island too?

Truly the weather didn't help much, but it was the least relevant, you managed to get some beautiful views of the sea and the ocean, I loved how they look and to know that from there you could see the coast of Morocco is mind blowing 😍!!!!

Driving around all these places is certainly a very nice experience and hey you're right, too bad people scratch those important signs for tourists mainly!!!!

A hug dear friend, I enjoyed very much this post 🌹💖... ¡You Photographically Rock! 👍😉🔥📷❤️🌟🥂💥💫💯

Yes, it's a path to the small island, but it was closed by a fence. I wanted to get somehow through but no luck 😂

I am not sure if the rainy weather and clouds are a usual occurrence there. Maybe normally it is nicer weather, but I saw the landscape so green and we know, if green then it means there is also a lot of rain 🌧️:)

Driving all around was a great experience, I so much love the fact that we started the year with this road trip 😇🥂

Thank you for coming with us to Tarifa, @fernanblog 😌

This is really nice! I can imagine all the ships and sailors passing from here every day, and dreaming about what would they do when they disembark from their ships🤗🤗🍸

Well, your comment is a very nice way to see these ships coming into the harbour :)) How nice, thanks for bringing this view!

You sure had fun...the place looks amazing.. and another evidence that nature is indeed beautiful.

I sure did 😀 and nature is indeed beautiful, powerful and admirable. 🌧️🌞🌄

Walking around to see the beauty of nature does have a way of giving relief to the mind. You had a great outing.

People get to-scratch notices because of ignorance and some of them don't just like when things are in good shape.

Those people should scratch own things then, not those objects that belong to everyone.

Agree with you, nature can indeed give some positive vibes to our minds 😇🌄

Don't mind their ignorance.

All the best dear

to you too and I hope you are having a nice weekend :))

Thank you, yes I am great.

Good to hear that 😇☀️

I do know of Cadiz even though I have never bene there my wife lived there for many years and has told me a lot about it, but now from your photos I see more clearly what she was telling me about it is so beautiful there even on a rainy day

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks

Really? Your wife lived in Cádiz? How small the world is 😉 After this little walk in Tarifa we went to the city center of Cádiz, had there the accomodation booked. It was very nice!!

indeed it is such a small world

There is a wandering charm in these places, isn't it?
Everything is closer than we think :) I always have this feeling when I am in south Crete, thinking of Africa at the other side even though I see nothing but the blue of the sea. But there Africa is visible, how cool is this! The coast of Morocco, amazing! Thank you for sharing!

You are right, there is a lot of charm in these places. The Mediterranean sea, that connects all of us, but then we went towards the Atlantic, a completely different landscape. (I am back now on our sea side:D )
I was excited seeing the coast of Africa, although it was cloudy and the visibility was not the best, it was a great feeling :)) Thank you for reading @traisto 😊

Hey that's a very beautiful ocean mistress, the blue calm water seems to be very fresh

And yes, who's mocking you 🤭, With that sign, everyone will definitely age, if they have a long life

Enjoy #Wednesdaywalk

Hehe, yes, everyone is getting older, and hopefully we all have a long life :)
Thank you for coming with us to this place @roronoa46 🌞

🙏🙏

Thank you also for your response, 😊

The nice place even though it was cloudy and gray seems like you enjoyed it a lot. nice photographs. thanks for sharing greetings😊💓

I loved the whole trip and this place too. It's a pity it already finished... seeing new and nice places is a very rewarding experience ☺️

🤩🤩🤩📸💯 Simply beautiful, I love that you enjoyed it because traveling is always a pleasure.

Of course that I enjoyed, I would gladly repeat the trip, anytime! 😉🥳

I'm impressed how you manage to write posts while traveling. :D

Lovely triangle of sights....

We arrived home 😇, but yes, there were posts written while still on road 😉

Nice story. 🌹

Wow! Imagine you can already see another country from a distance! Amazing! Just beyond the waters of Gibraltar, fascinating!
I love going to the beach too when it's cloudy and even rainy. You can really hear the roaring of the waves. The mixture of wind and waves is like a loud angry concierto.... but still beautiful and pleasant to hear.... Haha, nature's own concert.

Yep, that is why I was so excited, not just another country but another continent 😀

You are very right, nature can give us beautiful concerts! Thanks for the comparison, I really like it 👍🎶

This is fantastic, I also love nature and I visit the oceans and the beach often.

I wish you be at this venue one day, this is a beautiful place to be.

Thank you for sharing this with us, you are such an amazing being.

Thanks, and actually thank you for your visit. I enjoyed those moments being there, seeing the place where the sea and the ocean meet. Cool place, and I imagine it would be even funnier without clouds and rain :D

There is a place here in Nigeria where two rivers meet, a confluence, and they never mix, we often make superstitions out of them that they are two wives of a great God who were rivals.. hehe. Nature is beautiful.

Oh, what a belief hehehe.
This place had some vibe, oh well, maybe it was just me who was that hyped... but I saw Africa, I was so close to the continent where you live :))

Wwwoow.. were you guys using so binoculars or sort.. how come you didn't enter .. lol.

We ll welcome you with some great African delicacies..

There was a bit of water between Europe and Africa, so first I would have to get a ticket for the ferry or swim a bit 😂

Hehehehe.. what country in Africa could that be? I hope you know Africa is a really huge place with many big countries. So it might worth the swim to have a look.

It's the coast of Morocco that can be seen from here.

Yooo our football heroes, you were coming in from North Africa... were you any were close to the straight of Gibralta
