The Netherlands Adventure - Flying and Walking, Day 0 (Road to Hive Fest 2022)

in Wednesday Walk2 years ago

Finally, I'm getting back to my "normal" life and routines... After an intensive 6 days in the Netherlands, I came back home yesterday at midnight... So many great memories and it's time to convert them into words and images... :) Many of you who haven't been at #HiveFest7 have asked to write up about things that happened and knowing myself, and the number of things that happened, I know that it will take a lot of words to describe it...

So, I will split my HF adventure into multiple posts... The first in front of you isn't directly connected to the Hive Fest, but more like a "road to the Netherlands"... I didn't stay in the official Hive Fest hotel but at my friend's place in The Hague, which means that in my next posts, you will see more different places and not just Amsterdam...

Also, my flight didn't go to the Amsterdam Schiphol airport, but to Eindhoven airport, which means that I will introduce you to another Dutch city in this "mini-series"... So, let's start from the very beginning... The general idea was to travel to Eindhoven by plane, later to The Hague by train, and in the afternoon/evening to go to Amsterdam and open drinks of Hife Fest... But, it wasn't like that...

01.jpg

My trip started early in the morning, flying by Ryanair to Eindhoven... Enjoying the sunrise from the air! I have never seen something like that in my life, so it was an interesting experience!

02.jpg

What you see in the photo is a well-known city, Benidorm, and its two beaches, Poniente and Levante...

03.jpg

04.jpg

05.jpg

Right after Benidorm, it's my small town which isn't visible very well because of the sun's reflection in the water...

06.jpg

After a short cloudy break (and over an hour of flying), you can see a completely different landscape from before... Colors have changed, and from Spanish red, it turned into Dutch green... It is obvious who has more rain...

07.jpg

08.jpg

09.jpg

10.jpg

11.jpg

After a bit more than two hours of flight, the plane landed at Eindhoven airport and the grey clouds welcomed us...

12.jpg

13.jpg

14.jpg

After a 25-minute drive by bus to the main train station, it was time to switch transport vehicles again... After a plane and a bus, it's time to travel by train!

15.jpg

The journey to The Hague was a bit less than 2 hours and it served me as a fastened course of Dutch weather... 5 minutes of sun...

16.jpg

... ten minutes of rain showers... and after a while, sunny again... It was just crazy... I didn't expect that the same weather will be following us during the whole weekend...

17.jpg

All train stations in the Netherlands are very similar... As I was at 3, if someone would randomly drop me at some of them, I wouldn't know where am I... :)

18.jpg

In the meantime, I got a message from my friend that he is a bit late and will not arrive at his home as we have agreed, which meant that I had time to do the walk through the streets (and canals) of Hague...

19.jpg

If you were following posts from Hive Fest attendees, you have probably noticed many canals from the photos of Amsterdam, and Hague is very similar to it regarding that... They are a bit more narrow here, but still, very good looking...

20.jpg

Bicycles all around are an image of EVERY Dutch city or town... People like to drive them and I have no idea how they do it with all the rain that happens on daily basis...

21.jpg

22.jpg

The Hague is a mixture of different architecture, but most buildings are preserved in their original way... The center of the city has no huge skyscrapers and you can see some very, very old buildings...

23.jpg

24.jpg

25.jpg

One of the interesting things in the Netherlands is that a lot of churches aren't used for what they are designed for... Some of them have been converted into museums, others into concert halls, discotheques, or as a conference hall like the one where we were the second day...

26.jpg

Another thing that I found interesting is these small front yards that houses have... Usually, you can see a bench and a small flower garden...

27.jpg

28.jpg

Slowly, I'm closing by to my friend's house, and right in front of it, he has another canal, but this one looks very natural... Also, there are a lot of boats in it where people live and not just spend some time "by the river"... I could imagine myself living in one of them... In the morning, get up and throw a fishing rod through the window... :)

29.jpg

30.jpg

These are typical Dutch houses that you can see all around the Netherlands... Usually, they have a stretch hall with stairways, and these, in particular, are 3 apartments per entrance, on 3 different floors...

31.jpg

32.jpg

33.jpg

34.jpg

I arrived at a friend's home around 2-3 PM and I was exhausted from the trip... As we didn't see each other for over 2 years, we had a lot of topics to talk about... Hour by hour, time flew away, and my idea of going to Amsterdam on Day 0, fell apart... Instead of doing that, I stayed at my "temporary home" and talk about HIVE and blockchain to my friend until his brain almost exploded... 😂 It was probably over 4-5 hours and we will see in the next couple of days if I will receive a call from him for additional "lessons"...

35.jpg

That was my Day0 and a nice walk in Hague... See you soon in a different post about #HiveFest and my personal views about it...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

That reminds me of a week I had in London more than 10 years ago.

Thanks for the introductory post. So, they actually do host all sorts of events in churches? Well, they are impressive buildings. Better to be used than not.

Yeah, the weather was crazy, but I suppose they are used to it... For me, coming from "always sunny" Spain, it was a shock... lol... I was prepared for cold, but not for so much... lol...
Anyways, it was nice to see the Netherlands as it was my first time there... and I hope not the last time...

!LUV

We handle the rain by wearing specially made raincoats for bikes. Or sometimes just get wet, what to do. :)

Yeah, I suppose that people get used to it... I like my sun! :)

I haven't traveled by plane in a long time. nice to see aerial photos from your post.

The things I love about Dutch city are the many bikes and the canals, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to get there. I hope my dream come true one day to be able to fly to travel there.

Las bicicletas por todos lados! A mí me encanta Ámsterdam porque siempre está en movimiento.

Oye, cuando vas a tener tiempo libre para tomar un café virtual juntos y volver a charlar sobre hive?

I got sick like everyone else after the Hive Fest... I think it's not covid, but still with sore throat and headaches... I hope I will be better in a couple of days, so we will be in contact... I'm not going anywhere... :)

!PIZZA

It was a great walk! That day I was lucky that it wasn't raining... lol... Like it did all other days in Amsterdam, and Den Haag, too :)

The Hague looks like a great place. Great report, I wonder how you have lost your voice! lol

I wonder how you have lost your voice!

Talking loud, drinking cold drinks, and freezing outside because of not wearing warm clothes... lol... That was a "secret combo" 😀

!PIZZA

hehe I guess you are too used to the warm climate of Benidorm ! !LOL

I hate Russian dolls
they’re so full of themselves.
