I saw quite a few things on this #wednesdaywalk
Once I got to the lake I noticed some new signs...
Seems the red-winged blackbirds have taken over the place and are being aggressive of their territory.
So far they are just vying for territory between themselves but once the nests are established these guys will be dive bombing anything that comes too close to their nests. They have no problem landing on your head and giving you a peck or two.
Another angry bird was this goose sitting on her nest. Very suspicious of the human walking by.
I suspect she may have chased another goose off her floating island as I see a loose egg sitting unattended just a few feet away from her.
I finally saw the beaver by the lake again. He was harvesting irises and bringing them somewhere... Sadly he kept diving under water and this was the best shot I could get.
I saw a mallard duck family with just one chick left. Perhaps a fox came by and ate all the rest of them.
Hopefully the little guy will survive.
I noticed something strange in the air. I thought what sort of UFO could this be? Looks like a bouquet of party balloons got away from someone and the wind has been blowing them all over town.
I noticed some marsh marigolds (thanks for the ID @steven-patrick ) but alas no mushrooms on this #wednesdaywalk. Seems the weather is too weird for them to be growing the usual spots I check.

such cool sightings on your walk i have seen this red wing blackbirds in a park here but havent seen them being aggressive
but geese when they nest if have young ones i have seen be very aggressive
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
Here the geese just hiss at you if there are babies or a nest. The black birds will hover right above your head shrieking at you. Their nests are in the reeds so its easy to get the babies thus they are extra aggressive.
I now know to watch out for them
They do make for good photos as they are yelling at you lol.
Well, if they are mylar balloons, you still have a chance to experience some high strangeness yet today...
I'll look around for the second crash site...

Lovely #wednesdaywalk. We saw some baby geese yesterday. And have robins vigilantly sitting on their nest. I went by a local beaver pond but couldn't find the beaver. We did see a muskrat at a different place along a river. Glad you got your photos and walk in without any blackbird or geese attacks 🙂
One of these days I'll be able to grab the red-winged blackbird right as he attacks me lol. They get pretty close above your head. We'll see if all the other red-wings in the area come to assist.

I know, they can't even inflict any damage but I'm sure it would startle someone with headphones in to be pecked suddenly on the scalp.
You captured interesting shots @sketch.and.jam. I didn’t know the red wing blackbird were aggressive but makes sense they protect their nesting area.
One day I want to catch one as it dive bombs me to see its reaction.
The shots are amazing. The colors are vivid and bright, the bird fills just enough of the picture and the lighting is immaculate.
They are tame posers, instead of flying away they will site there are shriek at you.
Great shots of the redwings. Hope the surviving duckling makes it.
Hopefully this year I'll be able to get some shots of the babies emerging from their nests.
That would be so cool! My contractor was telling me he'd never seen baby blue jays and just found out they are colored just like their parents, only in miniature.
That must have been a noisy sight.
