Wednesday Walk in Search of Osprey
This post if for Wednesday walk challenge And Make me Smile Collaboration challenge, initially our collaboration was once a month but due to the popularity of it we have decided to make the collab a weekly thing :)

The walk I am sharing today is when I went out at about 8 Am in search of the Local Osprey, I knew of two nests and wanted to check them out and see if I could catch any shots of them, whether i succeeded or not you will have to read the whole post to find out :)
Now these shots are not in the order I took them, as I had my big lens on the camera initially and with it in my backpack I didn't take any shots while walking to where I knew one of the nests was, but on the walk back I switch to my 28-75mm Lens for a few shots, and I am sharing them in the order which I think make smore sense for this post.
So this first shot is looking back along the road that runs by the Hurricane Barrier wall, which I walked out on heading to one of the nests

and this is where I was heading thats Palmers island, and I had heard there was a nest on the island so thats my destination

and a bit closer to the island, the tied was low so I was able to cross to the island without getting my feet wet

I did explore the island a little and took a few shots which I will share in another post, but focusing on the walk tot he Osprey Nest, I walked around this beach on the outskirts of the Island which took me around to the nest and the Lighthouse ( also for another post)
As I mentioned i took these shots as I was walking back off hte Island and passed this couple walking around the island

And here we have the osprey nest near the lighthouse, and as you can see no Osprey in sight, I do not know if they were out hunting or hadn't returned to this nest yet, I did watch for them for a while but didn't see them

Now finishing this post with the first photo I actually took on the walk, a pair of Osprey sitting on a nest that is out on the water just off the Harbor Walk, I did stay and watch them for a bit hoping at least one of them would take off and fly or even better catch some fish, but they seemed pretty content sittign there on the nest, but I will be returning to both nests in the future and hoping for more and better shots of them

Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.
This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines
Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.
Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.
Try and get a few shots not just one
Add a bit of a write up about where you walked
Just one Wednesday Walk tagged post a week
You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.
Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss
Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all, especially if its not one of the first 5 tags or I may miss seeing it .
Following me and re-Hiving the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion.
I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules
I will try and visit, and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk.

I'm always looking for birds of prey, but mostly I see them besides the road when I have no chance to stop. And when I have a place to stop they fly away as soon as I turn the engine off 😂

I went and tried for shots of the Osprey and a Heron yesterday, still not what I wanted but may have a couple usable shots

I've been watching the osprey non stop here flying by with logs (really such big branches) or talons full of seaweed, building their nests. That nest is so low, we always talk about putting up some poles ourselves for them to nest on with a camera on one year, I might try a lower one like this with a platform and see if we get any takers. Their numbers increase so much each year, I can't imagine we wouldn't.

I have bene out a few times trying to catch shots of them and in particular catching a shot of one as it dives for catches and then flies back carrying a fish, no luck as yet but I am determind this year to catch them :)
Beautiful shots! I don't know as though I have ever seen an osprey before. They really beautiful birds. That is cool that you have a couple of nests so close. They look quite large compared to most of the birds that we get around here!

Now my goal is to catch one in flight and hopefully carrying a fish back to the nest

Nice, now you can hopefully observe an osprey chick growing up in the nest. Hopefully catching a fish and bringing it back too.

Wow - osprey nest - that is very cool. We get them here in Scotland, but they are very rare and protected (they often keep the nesting sites secret in order to protect the birds).

Photography is my primary hobby since I retired, well to be honest it has been for many years before retiring also, so it is a habit for me I take my camera with me almost everywhere I go :)
I love photography too. I really have to make time for it. It has been years.
Finding time us always the challenge for sure
Nowadays most of my photo walks are early mornings around sunrise
I'm told that's the best natural light at dusk and dawn. I can never get up that early, so for me it's just before dusk 😄
I do love the blue and golden hour
Sine I was around 14 I have been waking by 4AM so catching sunrises are easy for me to catch
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
Oh wow, as always the pictures are looking amazing. The ospreys are looking relaxed, they probably had just consumed their fish meal when you arrived. Catching them in action fishing would be really spectacular shots. Hopefully next time, but it does take lots of patience and time to capture these wonderful fisher birds doing what they do best.

Yes patience is needed and patience is one area I am not good at I like to keep moving but I will keep trying and with luck one day I will catch one fishing

Wow, ospreys are amazing. I'm sure they are a nuisance to the people who operate the equipment and field lighting the ospreys tend to nest in, but I think they are so cool. You really captured some nice shots, @tattoodjay! They make nests in the lights over the baseball diamond where my son plays, and I've never been able to get a great picture because the lights are so high up. Also I don't have a cool lens like yours!

MY lens is cool but very heavy so I dont carry it with me all the time, I went to a new beach today for sunrise, and as sunrise ended I saw an osprey flying but didnt have the big lens with me Grrrr LOL
