Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk

While I've done more than my fair share of complaining about the weather on Wednesdays for weeks now, I have to say that this week more than made up for all the gloomy, and sunny-but-chilly walks as of late. In fact, just after I headed outside, I bumped into my landlady who was saying the same thing. Even the swarms of pesky Black Flies (who arrived right on schedule after Mother's Day) couldn't ruin the gorgeousness of the warm air, gentle breeze, and sunny sky.

In fact, it was so nice out, I decided to meander down our driveway as well, rather than just wander in the yard, to see if there were any signs of the Jack-in-the-pulpit or the Lady Slippers (spoiler - not yet). And while it's not Wednesday any more (no one tell @tattoodjay...lol), I enjoyed myself so much I decided I still had to share the photos, even though I missed the actual day.

Before I get to the pictures and as always, a quick shout out to Wednesday Walk host, @tattoodjay - be sure to hop over and take a peek at his latest, Wednesday Walk A walk on the trail to....where? You'll have to click the link to find out!😂

As for these photos, as per my usual FYI - these were taken in the yard of my Durham, NH home with my Nikon, also using my tripod. All were resized, then cleaned up a bit with PicMonkey - mostly the exposure and sharpness, but with a few other tweaks like vignette filters for the corners here and there.

Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk

1. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg1. In my first whiny Wednesday Walk post last month, I mentioned how amazing it was to see this tree sprouting up from a cracked granite boulder. While it's no less amazing, now that the "tree" is blossoming, I've realized it's not actually a tree, it's a bush....

2. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg2. ... specifically a lilac bush. Although to be fair, there is a such thing as lilac trees too.

3. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg3. The daffodil blooms are already almost gone by.

4. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg4. But there are still a few beauties hanging on.

5. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg5. On the other hand, the violets (both purple and white) are popping up all over the place.

6. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg6. As I said at the top of the post, I wandered down the driveway to see if I could spot either Jack or some lady slippers. They were no-shows, but I discovered there are tons of fiddleheads popping up!

7. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg7. Given how popular (and somewhat scarce) these beauties are, I really should figure out how to harvest & use them.

8. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg8. But for the moment, I've only harvested these shots (and for some reason, this one is giving me wicked bird vibes...lol).

9. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg9. My eldest (who is still recovering from her surgery slowly but surely) mentioned how it almost looks like fall outside, with the red blossoms on some of the trees.

10. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk(1).jpg10. Speaking of blossoms, there are also lots of wood anemones blooming now, and I didn't realize until I found that link I used for the name that they are part of the buttercup family. I shouldn't be surprised though, because they do have wicked buttercup vibes.

11. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg11. Not sure what family these Bluets (same website doesn't mention it for these flowers) come from, but their bright yellow centers remind me a little of buttercups as well. I'm happy to see there are tons of them blooming this year.

12. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg12. What's no longer blooming though is our landlady's Dwarf Weeping Cherry Tree. Every year the flowers appear and disappear pretty fast, but given how rough a time it had last year with mites and such, I'm amazed it looks as good as it does.

13. A Wicked Whiny Wednesday Walk.jpg12a. For comparison, here's one of the shots I took just over a month ago (on April 6th, 2022) - I'd say it did very well this year after all!

13. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg13. There's even still one last bloom hanging on.

14. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg14. I wish I could somehow share how amazing our yard smells right now, with the lilac bushes starting to bloom. This one is on the other side of the yard from the one growing out of the boulder (although you can see more stones in the background).

15. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg15. It will be even more incredible when all these buds are fully blooming.

16. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg16. Not too far from that lilac bush are bunches of pretty little purple flowers, growing around some of the stones.

17. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg17. The closet match I could find is common henbit but I don't think there's anything "common" about these little beauties.

18. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg18. And yes, while dandelions are also considered wicked pesky invasive weeds common, I really love how magically bright and sunny they look.

19. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg19. They look even more magical after they've gone to seed...

20. Beautiful Spring Day for a Wednesday Walk.jpg20. ... I get the feeling, given how prolific they are this year, that you'll be seeing lots of shots like this in the coming weeks.

Happy Wednesday Walking (early for next week, lol!) everyone!

lovely photos! have a great weekend.

Thanks so much, @mypathtofire and hope you have a wonderful weekend as well! 😊

thank you! :)

Ohh you highlighted the beauty of spring so well in this post, isnt it amazing the resilience of nature as shown by the bush growing ut of a boulder

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

It's also kind of funny (and I meant to say in my post) that for the past couple years, our landlady has been trying to grow additional lilac bushes on the little hill next to the boulder, so to see that pop up like that in such a big way not far from the (currently) small planted ones... 🙃 😂

And thanks, as always, for giving me a reason to wander my yard with my camera at least once a week. Hope you're enjoying this summer spring weekend weather!

That is funny,

and yes I think we may well not have much spring temps this year were heading straight into summer i think

So glad you had nice weather. Rained here all day! I need to start doing my weekly Wednesday Walk post. Hopefully next week will start my new Wednesday Walk habit! As always, fantastic photos!

Beautiful pictures! I personally like the fiddleheads most of all, they remind me of the way ferns come up :)

I’ve heard fern sprouts are edible, but although I have a large patch of them at the edge of the woods on my property, I have yet to try this…guess I better get to it quick if I’m going to though, since I won’t be here next year to try it!

I've also wanted to create a Wednesday Walk post but I guess we can complain together about the bad weather that always breaks the plans lol 🤣

Anyway, I'm happy that you still had a walk even if it wasn't on Wednesday. The nature looks so beautiful on your end!

Glad to hear you finally got some nice weather.
We also are having not very nice weather in May, herd in Vancouver, Canada, but hopefully soon it will get better.

Love all the Spring photography. Looks like you had a wonderful walk.

Beautiful pics. Esp. the white flowers - Bluets.

Those flowers 🥺💞. Lovely images. I don't know but I found this inner peace looking at those flowers. They're so beautiful 🥰.

These photos are lovely ma'am. And it's clear you had a nice time during this walk.. I am thankful that nature heard your whisper of complaints and gave you this day to spend time with her and return with these beautiful shots. Well done. And thanks for sharing. ❤️❤️

Spring has sprung back into your garden how lovely to see all the flowers and bushes established once more for the warmer season.

Enjoy a new perfume around each corner and have a wonderful new week.
